    Get PDF
Boxing is a discipline that has transcended in Ecuadorian sports history. The media have disseminated the sporting career of several athletes including the boxer Segundo Mercado, analyzed by various media and in particular the flat press. It is taken in account the principle that examining texts allow to know not only its meaning, but also how to produce them. The period addressed had a great impact and social influence, because their fights are considered among the first transmitted by the Ecuadorian broadcasting, radio as well as television. Once the articles are selected, the terms used in the titles are analyzed, which revealed their meaning and significance in the sporting context of Segundo Mercado. Among the results obtained appears the compilation of several articles of the magazine Estadio and the newspaper El Universo, where the triumphs and the sports setbacks of the athlete were gathered. It is concluded that the semantic analysis of the words shows how the use of a series of qualifiers to identify the athlete is related to both his social condition and his style of fighting. Investigating what is written in this medium, the discourse analysis is applied since the objective of the research to determine how the written press described to Segundo Mercado´s sporting career

Positioning And Design Recommendations For Materials Of Efficient Thermal Storage Mass In Passive Buildings

    Get PDF
The role of mass in energy storage has long been a subject of interest in passive buildings. Thermal mass is used to diminish temperature variations for interior spaces in desert or semi- desert climates. Energy from solar and internal gains during the day in winter is often greater than daytime heating requirements. This energy can be stored in materials within the building, and released at night to offset building heat loss. In a similar manner, building mass may allow the interior to remain cooler during the daytime in summer and reduce air conditioning requirements. In this paper, the geometric and energetic positioning of thermal mass has been studied in order to determine most convenient locations. It is found that floors receive direct solar energy for a high percentage of time, usually 70%-90% of the radiation transmitted through the window during the day (9 am to 3 pm solar time). The materials related to the technical efficiency of thermal mass are reviewed specifying the thickness most suitable for storing solar heat in the winter or keeping the interior cool in summer.Fil: Esteves, Alfredo. The relation between aggressive behavior and engagement in violence

    Get PDF
Exposure to community violence is positively correlated with aggression towards other people (Allwood & Bell, 2008). Researchers in this area have classified aggression into two broad categories, proactive and reactive aggression. Proactive aggression refers to aggression that is used as an instrument to achieve a goal, whereas reactive aggression refers to aggression that is used as a response to a real or perceived treat (Chaux, Arboleda, & Rincon, 2012). Exposure to community violence impacts both reactive and proactive aggression, but mechanisms explaining this relationship are still unclear. One potential mediator of this relationship is religiosity. Previous research suggests that individuals turn to religion as a coping mechanism when encountering stressful situations, but the efficacy of this coping mechanism has generated mixed results (Ano & Vasconcelles, 2005). Considering that exposure to violence and aggressive behavior lead to stress, it is plausible that religiosity is a mediator of this relationship. One hundred twenty three currently enrolled Eastern Michigan University undergraduate students completed self-report measures assessing exposure to community violence, religiosity and both reactive and proactive aggression. It was hypothesized that higher levels of exposure to violence are positively correlated with both types of aggression and religious coping would moderate that relationship. This hypothesis was not supported. However, there was a direct effect between experiences with \u27safety\u27 (the mirror image of violence exposure) and lower levels of proactive aggression

Polyether Product Recovery: Salt-Induced Water-Polymer Separation

    Get PDF
Evonik Industries currently loses approximately 50 tons of polyether product to wastewater washes annually. Evonik has requested an industrially viable solution to maximize the recovery of the lost product in the current process. It was required that the solution have a one year payback period, and be in compliance with current regulatory policies. Literature sources showed that salt is a commonly used agent to force the separation of polyether-water mixtures. Using this information, a method was developed using a salt already present in the process to induce a phase separation and to recover the polyether. An empirical multilinear refractive index model was developed to determine the polyether content in treated samples, while thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) was used to determine the salt content. A series of preliminary tests followed trends observed in academia, which claimed that salt composition and temperature had an effect on the amount of polyether recovered. A design of experiment (DoE) was performed on three classes of Evonik’s polyether to determine the optimum conditions for product recovery on a bench scale. Using the optimal recovery region from the DoE, a scale up was performed, and two other tests were performed to examine the effect of reducing the water used in the washes. In both cases, 88-99% of the polymer could be recovered, although the reduced-water trials required an order of magnitude less salt than the full-wash trials. From these results, it is expected approximately 130,000ofproductcouldberecoveredannuallywithaninitialinvestmentof130,000 of product could be recovered annually with an initial investment of 46,500.https://scholarscompass.vcu.edu/capstone/1089/thumbnail.jp

Energy conservation and solar energy use for cooking impact of its massive adoption in the arid zone of Argentina

    Get PDF
The use of solar energy is essential in transforming today's human environments into tomorrow's sustainable human habitats. This paper presents the positive impacts produced by the adoption of energy-efficient cooking equipment-using heat retention box cookers and the solar drum ovens-in the arid zone of Argentine. These solar cooking technologies improve the quality of life for local populations and, at the same time, save energy, time and effort in trying to obtain firewood. They minimize serious health problems associated with greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions control. The study documental in this paper demonstrates that usage of these technologies results in the saving of 65.7% of Liquefied Petroleum Gas and 63.8% of Firewood utilized in Argentina's rural and arid zone. These results indicate that, if 50% of the arid zone population were to adopt these technologies, a reduction of 3.09KgCO2e of greenhouse gases per capita from 2015 to 2050 is possible.Fil: Esteves Miramont, Alfredo. Zero Energy Buildings (ZEB) promote a comprehensive view of sustainable architecture and a profound change in the way to build. Research and development in energy transition must necessarily face technological and socio-economic issues. In that line, the goal here is to offer a response to minimize the building sector’s energy and environmental impact. To this end, a review of the state of the art of the subject was carried out, where 97 scientific articles from a period comprising 2006 to 2020, considered the most pertinent, were selected. The methodology consisted of analyzing these texts based on ten questions formulated to address the subject:  their origins, current status and future projections regarding energy efficiency and sustainability. The questions refer to definitions (Q1), sustainability (Q2), technologies involved (Q3), emissions (Q5), energy (Q4) (Q6) (Q7), regulations (Q8), climate change (Q9), and future projections (Q10). The work allows concluding that ZEB are integrated in a holistic way in the transformation towards a renewable and sustainable future in terms of energy solutions and, in turn, they have the potential to be implemented in different geographical and climatic positions.

DerechoThis paper deals with the legal problem of deep social resonance, which refers to the guarantee of the labor rights of working women in pregnancy, during or after childbirth, as well as in the lactation period, which Are being violated by many employers, in violation of the different treaties issued by the international labor organization, as well as by the specific provisions established by the Colombian Constitution, the Labor Code, among others. Jurisprudence has developed a principle superior to labor stability, a principle that has been called reinforced labor stability, which seeks to ensure the stability of the worker and in particular the woman in pregnancy, according to this, to dismiss these employees is not Sufficient with the existence of the just cause contemplated by labor law. On the other hand, this work analize what it was expressed by the Constitutional Court, viewing the importance of the topic of maternity law, the diversity of existing jurisprudential criteria and the large number of non-systematic pronouncements that had taken place in the Court, Unification Code SU-070 of 2013, which was an immense effort to collect and systematize the positions that had been adopted about the subject in the Constitutional Court and to make clear, from a unified criterion, the applicable rules regarding the Reinforced labor stability of women in pregnancy or lactation.
