    The measurement of the ZZ production cross section performed by the ATLAS detector in LHC proton-proton collisions at √s = 7TeV is discussed. The results are based on an integrated luminosity of 4.6 fb−1 collected by ATLAS in 2011 with a fully operational detector and stable beam conditions. The normalized differential cross sections in bins of various kinematic variables together with limits on ZZZ and ZZγ anomalous triple gauge couplings derived using the transverse momentum of the leading Z boson are also presented

Three ZZ decay channels are considered: eeee, eeμμ or μμμμ, including also leptons produced in the τ decay of the Z’s. The results are based on an integrated luminosity of 4.7 fb−1 collected by ATLAS in 2011 with a fully operational detector and stable beam conditions. Limits on ZZ anomalous triple gauge couplings derived using the cross section alone obtained with an integrated luminosity of ∼ 1 fb−1 are also presented

In a market economy, where price is the principal comparison factor for the choice of a provider, a new item leaves the responsible provider in disadvantage facing those who don't consider these standards. The impossibility to exert a strict control on effective bio-security rules demonstrates that bioethics plays a vital rôle backing odontological service.Las normas de bioseguridad implican un costo adicional que debe manejar el cirujano dentista. En una economía de libre mercado, en la cual el precio es el principal factor de comparación para elegir al prestador, la incorporación de un nuevo ítem deja en desventaja al prestador responsable, en beneficio del que no considera estas normas. La imposibilidad de ejercer un control riguroso sobre todos los prestadores demuestra que la única posibilidad de lograr una aplicación uniforme de normas de bioseguridad es la existencia de valores individuales en los odontólogos.  En este punto la bioética cobra vital importancia para apoyar la atención odontológica.As normas de biossegurança implicam num custo adicional ao cirurgão dentista no seu exercicio profissional. Numa economia de mercado, em que o preço da prestação de serviço é o principal fator de comparação para a escolha do prestador, a incorporação de um novo item deixa em desvantagem ao prestador responsável, em benefício daquele que não leva em conta estas normas em seus procedimentos. A impossibilidade de exercer um controle rigoroso com todos os prestadores faz com que a única possibilidade de lograr uma aplicação uniforme de normas de biossegurança efetivas por parte de todos eles, seja a existencia de valores individuais nos odontólogos. Este é um ponto em que abioética ganha importancia vital para apoiar este aspecto da atenção odontológica

    The exceptionally wet weather in 2019 impacted corn yield. Excessive rainfall reduced corn emergence and plant stand. Many production fields were replanted due to poor stand from flooding. In this study, corn that was planted too shallow (1 inch) or too deep (3 inches) had less yield than that planted at 2-inch depth. The best yield was observed in the corn planted on April 16, 2019. The results from this record wet year were different from previous years, when early planted corn had higher yields

    Campylobacter jejuni fatal sepsis in a patient with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma: Case report and literature review of a difficult diagnosis

    Campylobacter jejuni (C. jejuni) bacteremia is difficult to diagnose in individuals with hematological disorders undergoing chemotherapy. The cause can be attributed to the rarity of this infection, to the variable clinical presentation, and to the partial overlapping symptoms underlying the disease. Here, we report a case of a fatal sepsis caused by C. jejuni in a 76-year-old Caucasian man with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. After chemotherapeutic treatment, the patient experienced fever associated with severe neutropenia and thrombocytopenia without hemodynamic instability, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. The slow growth of C. jejuni in the blood culture systems and the difficulty in identifying it with conventional biochemical phenotyping methods contributed to the delay of administering a targeted antimicrobial treatment, leading to a fatal outcome. Early recognition and timely intervention are critical for the successful management of C. jejuni infection. Symptoms may be difficult to recognize in immunocompromised patients undergoing chemotherapy. Thus, it is important to increase physician awareness regarding the clinical manifestations of C. jejuni to improve therapeutic efficacy. Moreover, the use of more aggressive empirical antimicrobial treatments with aminoglycosides and/or carbapenems should be considered in immunosuppressed patients, in comparison to those currently indicated in the guidelines for cancer-related infections supporting the use of cephalosporins as monotherapy

    On the Use of Fuzzy and Permutation Entropy in Hand Gesture Characterization from EMG Signals: Parameters Selection and Comparison

    The surface electromyography signal (sEMG) is widely used for gesture characterization; its reliability is strongly connected to the features extracted from sEMG recordings. This study aimed to investigate the use of two complexity measures, i.e., fuzzy entropy (FEn) and permutation entropy (PEn) for hand gesture characterization. Fourteen upper limb movements, sorted into three sets, were collected on ten subjects and the performances of FEn and PEn for gesture descriptions were analyzed for different computational parameters. FEn and PEn were able to properly cluster the expected numbers of gestures, but computational parameters were crucial for ensuring clusters' separability and proper gesture characterization. FEn and PEn were also compared with other eighteen classical time and frequency domain features through the minimum redundancy maximum relevance algorithm and showed the best predictive importance scores in two gesture sets; they also had scores within the subset of the best five features in the remaining one. Further, the classification accuracies of four different feature sets presented remarkable increases when FEn and PEn are included as additional features. Outcomes support the use of FEn and PEn for hand gesture description when computational parameters are properly selected, and they could be useful in supporting the development of robotic arms and prostheses myoelectric control
