Two cases of synovial sarcoma were diagnosed in two Rottweilers on the basis of synovial biopsies. Clinical and radiographic signs are described, along with histopathologic features of the tumour and synovial fluid

Charge Fluctuations on Membrane Surfaces in Water

We generalize the predictions for attractions between over-all neutral surfaces induced by charge fluctuations/correlations to non-uniform systems that include dielectric discontinuities, as is the case for mixed charged lipid membranes in an aqueous solution. We show that the induced interactions depend in a non-trivial way on the dielectric constants of membrane and water and show different scaling with distance depending on these properties. The generality of the calculations also allows us to predict under which dielectric conditions the interaction will change sign and become repulsive

    Charge Fluctuations and Counterion Condensation

We predict a condensation phenomenon in an overall neutral system, consisting of a single charged plate and its oppositely charged counterions. Based on the ``two-fluid'' model, in which the counterions are divided into a ``free'' and a ``condensed'' fraction, we argue that for high surface charge, fluctuations can lead to a phase transition in which a large fraction of counterions is condensed. Furthermore, we show that depending on the valence, the condensation is either a first-order or a smooth transition.Comment: 16 pages, 1 figure, accepted to be published in PR

Atypical ductal hyperplasia is a multipotent precursor of breast carcinoma

The current model for breast cancer progression proposes independent “low‐grade (LG) like” and “high‐grade (HG) like” pathways but lacks a known precursor to HG cancer. We applied low coverage whole genome sequencing to atypical ductal hyperplasia (ADH) with and without carcinoma to shed light on breast cancer progression. 14/20 isolated ADH cases harboured at least one copy number alteration (CNA), but had fewer aberrations than LG or HG ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS). ADH carried more HG‐like CNA than LG DCIS (eg. 8q gain). Correspondingly, 64% (7/11) of ADH cases with synchronous HG carcinoma were clonally related, similar to LG carcinoma (67%, 6/9). This study represents a significant shift in our understanding of breast cancer progression, with ADH as a common precursor lesion to the independent “low‐grade like” and “high‐grade like” pathways. These data suggest that ADH can be a precursor of HG breast cancer and that LG and HG carcinomas can evolve from a similar ancestor lesion. We propose that although LG DCIS may be committed to a LG molecular pathway, ADH may remain multipotent, progressing to either LG or HG carcinoma. This multipotent nature suggests that some ADH could be more clinically significant than LG DCIS, requiring biomarkers for personalising management

Biocompuestos para perfiles avanzados adaptados a la edificación = Biocomposites for Advanced Profiles Adapted to Building Envelope

Abstract An alternative composites answer in the envelope sector is the fabrication by pultrusion of narrow interlocking panel sections and profiles. These impact-resistant structural elements have the advantage of quicker, safer installation and their modular design equally answers many identical building and other applications¡Error! An additional development in this area can be the obtaining of a sustainable alternative to current composite profiles. Previous studies have shown that biocomposites manufactured from natural materials such as fibres and bio-derived polymers; offer a sustainable alternative to traditional polymers and composites. The goal of this development is to replace the typical light gauge steel profile with a state of the art bio-composite integrated system. The finish profiles can also be used to finish existing masonry partition walls, cladding mechanical and extraction shafts and column cladding.
