O Hipertexto, texto Electrónico: As Identidades Discursivas na Globalidade das Culturas

    Get PDF

Cultura e Contemporaneidade - O Labirinto do Mundo

The development of this article is based on the discussion and theoretical reflection about the general issues related to the recent postmodern trends regarding the evolution of geographical thought and of its repercussion on the methodology and conceptualisation in the study of gentrification. We intend to interpret this theme of urban geography within the framework of the general normative positions of this movement that explains the social and spatial reality in the scope of the Epistemology of Geography and the Philosophy of Science in general.Peer Reviewe

The dysfunctional rental market in Portugal: a policy review

    Get PDF
: In Portugal, due to the rental market’s inability to respond to the constant mismatch between supply and demand over the course of decades, things have become increasingly residual and dysfunctional within the scope of the homeownership market. Through analysis of various laws and legislative changes over the last century, as well as the participant observation acquired by the author’s two-and-a-half years of experience as a stakeholder in the sector, this paper aims to review rental policies in Portugal and the multiple impacts they have had on reproducing various weaknesses in the rental market. The paper concludes with some policy recommendations that advocate how government action is decisive in shaping housing and rental policy, establishing a legal and regulatory framework able to transmit credibility, stability and security to the contractual forms between supply and demand, in keeping with an effective right to housing through affordable rentinginfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Marginal Gentrification as Emancipatory Practice: An Alternative to the Hegemonic Discourse of the Creative City?

    Get PDF
The main purpose of this article is to present and discuss marginal gentrification as a potential emancipatory practice. This movement is spearheaded by the less privileged sectors of the new middle classes, individuals who are underemployed or in temporary, precarious employment yet still prefer to live in central areas of the city, thus becoming pioneer gentrifiers. They refuse the conventional suburban norms and revanchist city canons, and thus, as a group, they may become an alternative to the dominant narrative presented by the creative city

How can we quarantine without a home? Responses of Activism and Urban Social Movements in Times of COVID‐19 Pandemic Crisis in Lisbon

    Get PDF
In Lisbon, during the COVID-19 pandemic period, new spaces for contestation and the action of urban social movements intensified, capitalising on the visibility for the right to housing, as a basic human right and an unconditional public health imperative, to fulfil the duties of lockdown and social isolation, imposed by the State of Exception. Its narrative and strategies reinforces the counter-hegemonic movement that denounces the logics of commodification and financialisation in the housing sector, placing hope in a post-capitalist transition in the post-COVID horizon. We conclude that the actors in this urban struggle have limited power over the changes they initiate, or make an effort to inflict, if they are not involved in a concerted and politically integrated action, not least because the achievements they obtain are temporary and exceptional, like the state of emergency imposed by COVID-19.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

No segundo parágrafo dizemos porquê.

Production of aluminium based composites reinforced with embedded NiTi by friction stir welding

Dissertação para a obtenção do grau de Mestre em Engenharia MecânicaAluminium alloys have been widely used in composite materials in order to promote an enhancement in its properties while reducing weight. As in the production of new composites with a significant difference in mechanical and thermo-physical properties fusion welding processes enhances the formation of undesired intermetallics. Those limitations have driven research on solid state technologies, such as Friction Stir Welding (FSW), for joining dissimilar materials. This study aimed to develop composites in AA 1XXX series aluminium alloys with NiTi by FSW. Different reinforcing material shapes were investigated, analyzed the interfaces and the resulting material flow. The final product was mechanically characterized. It was observed an increase of 70 % of ultimate tensile strength, compared to Al base material and yielding between the two dissimilar materials was greater than the Al lap joint yield stress. The final composite depicted a good electrical conductivity, reducing less than 3 % IACS of the Al base material. Thus, a composite with a strong mechanical bonding was produced, maintaining the original functional properties of the reinforcement NiTi alloy, and the electrical properties of the Aluminium.FCT/MCTES - "Desenvolvimento da tecnologia de processamento por fricção linear para produzir materiais com gradiente de funcionalidade e melhoria de superfícies para aplicações avançadas de engenharia – FRISURF
