    Diversity and extracellular enzyme profiles of yeasts on organic and fungicide treated strawberries

    Since yeasts can survive under variable environmental conditions using different food sources they have a wide distribution in nature. Fruits are suitable living spaces for yeasts and other microorganisms due to their high and different sugar contents. Strawberry fruit as well as other fruits are very sensitive to pathogenic fungi. Due to their residues on fruits, limitations on the use of fungicides have led to increased use of microorganisms with antagonistic effects as biological control agents. The biological agents to be used are selected mainly from the microorganisms found in the natural microbiota of the fruit. Therefore, in this study yeast biota on strawberry fruit collected from fungicide treated (Klorzon and Topas) and organic fields was determined using molecular identification methods. In addition, extracellular enzyme profiles of the identified yeast species were determined by the APIZYM-based system. There was no difference in the diversity of yeast species on strawberries collected from fungicide treated and organic fields, but the yeast density on organic strawberries was greater than fungicide treated fruits. The identified yeast species on fruits were determined as Metschnikowia pulcherrima (61.7%), Hanseniaspora uvarum (34.0%) and Wickerhamomyces pijperi (4.3%). W. pijperi yeast species was reported on strawberry fruit in our study first time. It was determined that H. uvarum and W. pijperi yeast species showed no α-glucosidase enzyme activity. All yeast strains showed industrially important β-glucosidase enzyme activity. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.553970

    The effect of socıal skılls traınıng program on the socıal skılls perceptıons of sports students

    The aim of this research is to reveal whether the social skills training program has an effect on the research of social skills levels of students participating in the social skills training program and studying sports. The study group of the research consists of a total of 30 students, 5 female and 25 male, actively studying at Manisa Celal Bayar University in 2019-2020. In this study, socio-demographic information form and a social skill scale developed by Tatar et al. (2018) were used as data collection tools for adults. In the implementation phase of the study, the social skills training program was applied to 15 students, who were determined as the experimental group, for 9 sessions for 9 weeks, once a week for 1.5-2 hours. The data of this study were analyzed with SPSS program version 22.0. In the analysis of the data, the t-test was applied for the comparison results of the number percentage distributions of independent variables, descriptive statistics for dependent variables, reliability and item analysis of the scales, the mean of the two independent variables of the group and the total scores of the two measurements made at different times, and the t-test was applied to determine the difference between the mean scores of the groups. It was found that there was a significant difference between the pre-test score distributions and post-test score distributions of the experimental group receiving social skills training, but there was no significant difference between the pre-test score distributions and post-test scores of the experimental group and the control group. In the 3rd and 6th month score distributions conducted for monitoring process, it was observed that the effect of the social skills training program continued.  It was found that there was no difference between the post-test scores of the experimental and control groups of the students studying sports in social skills training

    Does the Bone Cement Affect Miniscrew Stability?

    Objective:The purpose of this study was to determine whether bone cement increased the resistance of miniscrews against pull-out and shear forces.Materials and Method:Sixty commercially available miniscrews were placed into bovine bone samples (one each) at a 90° angle, using a custom-made orientation jig and controlling torque (30 N-cm) and rotation (20 rpm) with a rechargeable screwdriver. The miniscrews were inserted using three different methods: self-drilling, predrilling, and predrilling with bone cement application. Pull-out strengths and shear tests were performed using a universal testing machine.Results:Nonparametric Kruskal-Wallis tests were used for comparisons between groups, and Bonferroni-adjusted Mann-Whitney U tests were used to detect different group(s) (α/3=0.016). There was a statistically significant difference between the pull-out strengths of the groups (p<0.01). The self-drilling group had a significantly lower pull-out strength at failure than the other groups (p<0.016). The pullout strengths of the miniscrews placed with bone cement had a significantly higher pull-out strength than the predrilling group. In shear tests, there was no statistically significant difference among the groups.Conclusion:This study is the first report demonstrating the effects of bone cement on stability and resistance to failure at the bone-miniscrew interface. These results show that the use of miniscrews with bone cement is a promising method that may extend the limits of force application
