    The Role of Information and Communication Technology in the Acculturation of Vietnamese Refugees

    One of the most significant refugee populations in the United States is the Vietnamese. This group initially fled their native country to escape political oppression at the conclusion of the Vietnam War in 1975 and continued to flee in a series of separate waves that continued for more than three decades. As a relatively new immigrant group in the U.S., the Vietnamese still face a variety of challenges as they try to reestablish their lives and adapt in a new cultural environment. Acculturation is a complex process that is influenced by a number of factors. Throughout history, U.S. immigration policy has significantly affected the admission and adaptation of refugees. As shifts in the ideological frameworks, economic demands, and attitudes towards the rest of the world occurred in the twentieth century, which eventually brought the liberalization of immigration policy, this influence slowly decreased. This allowed for factors in the domestic political, economic, and social environments to become more powerful in affecting how refugees adapt in the U.S. Information and communication technologies (ICTs) have become integral aspects in both assisting and complicating the acculturation process for refugees. These technologies are helping Vietnamese refugees culturally adjust in American communities as well as maintain ties with their native culture; thus, illustrating the multifaceted nature of acculturation. However, the impact of ICTs is not uniform across all of the different waves of refugees who fled from Vietnam. This study demonstrates that interaction and communication are key aspects in cross-cultural adaptation and the importance of media in contemporary everyday life

    Polatuzumab vedotin, rituximab, and bendamustine combination in relapsed or refractory diffuse large B-cell lymphoma: A real-world data from Turkey

    Polatuzumab vedotin (Pola) with bendamustine and rituximab (BR) is a promising option for patients with relapsed/refractory (R/R) diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL). We analyzed the data of 71 R/R DLBCL patients who had been treated with Pola-BR in the named patient program from March 2018 to April 2021 from 32 centers in Turkey. All patients received up to six cycles of Pola 1.8 mg/kg, rituximab 375 mg/m2 on day 1, and bendamustine 90 mg/m2 on days 1–2 of each cycle. Median age at Pola-BR initiation was 55 (19–84). The overall response rate was 47.9%, including 32.4% CR rate when a median of 3 cycles was applied. With a median follow-up of 5 months, the median OS was 5 months. Grade 3–4 neutropenia and thrombocytopenia were the most common hematological toxicities. The real-world data from our cohort showed the Pola-BR is an effective option with a manageable toxicity profile

    This paper discusses the expansion of Oceania through a Marshallese indigenous lens as a focal point. It explains that decolonizing methodologies allows reclaiming of space for mental liberation and reassurement of constitutional rights. It highlights similar occurrences of decolonization practices meeting resistance in the 21st century all while strengthening the human right argument that no human deserves any less than their fellow human brothers and sisters. It argues that an indigenous imagery can only be viewed through an indigenous lens where the researches’ level of purity is retained and unfiltered. It nevertheless argues that Marshallese ethnolinguistics reveal the same cultural practices in America, Judeo-Christianity, and Oceania thus dictating the reality that “we are the same not withstanding one stays here and one there (Bedbedjin Bedbedjen, Bedbedjinma wot Kwe)”. It further explains the importance in these similarities and how Marshallese spirituality predates introduced American Judeo-Christianity despite the latter attempting to marginalize the former. It concludes by stating that Marshallese contributions on the global stage are rooted in that culture of love (IaKwe) which is echoed by the custom(s) revealing the significance of Marshallese validation academically, spiritually, economically, & socially to prevent institutionalized discrimination. This paper ends stating that the agency to know one’s self and how one should fit in the world, is a human right in itself and Marshallese are entitled to this sense of self worth through knowing thy self by thy self where real thinking takes place in one’s own mind as we all live our own lives

    Thymoquinone ameliorates delayed cerebral injury and cerebral vasospasm secondary to experimental subarachnoid haemorrhage

    Aim of the study. Among subarachnoid haemorrhage (SAH) patients, delayed cerebral injury (DCI) and infarction are the most important causes of death and major disability. Cerebral vasospasm (cVS) and DCI remain the major cause of death and disability. Thymoquinone (TQ) is the substance most responsible for the biological activity of nigella sativa (NS) and is useful in the treatment of ischaemic and neurodegenerative diseases, oxidative stress, inflammatory events, cardiovascular and neurological diseases. We conducted an experimental study aimed to investigate the preventive and corrective effects of TQ.Materials and methods. 24 Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into three groups. The first was the control group which was a sham surgery group. The second group was the SAH group where the double haemorrage SAH protocol was used to induce vasospasm. The third group was the SAH+TQ group, where cVS was induced by the SAH protocol and the animals received oral 2 cc thymoquinone solution for seven days at a dose of 10 mg/kg, after the induction of SAH. The rats were euthanised seven days after the first procedure. The degree of cerebral vasospasm was evaluated by measuring the basilar artery luminal area and arterial wall thickness. Apoptosis was measured by the western blot method at brainstem neural tissue. Oxidative stress was measured by the Erel Method. Endothelin-1 was measured with ELISA analysis at blood. Statistical analysis was performed.Results. Endothelin-1 values were found to be statistically significantly lower in the control and SAH+TQ groups compared to the SAH group (P < 0.001). Mean lumen area values were significantly higher in the control and SAH+TQ groups than in the SAH group (P < 0.001). In the control and SAH+TQ groups, wall thickness values decreased significantly compared to the SAH group (P < 0.001). OSI values were significantly lower in the control and SAH+TQ groups than in the SAH group (P < 0.001). Apoptosis was significantly lower in the control and SAH+TQ groups than in the SAH group (P < 0.001).Conclusion. Our results show that post-SAH TQ inhibits/improves DCI and cVS with positive effects on oxidative stress, apoptosis, ET-1, lumen area, and vessel wall thickness, probably due to its anti-ischaemic, antispasmodic, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-apoptotic and neuroprotective effects

    Prematüre ejakülasyon dünyada standart tedavisi olmayan yaygın bir hastalıktır. Biz bu çalışmamızda Tek kör plasebo kontrollü yaşam boyu PE si olan 60 hastada on-demand tremadol kullanımın etkinlğini değerlendirdik. PE nin tanımlamasında ve tedavinin etkinliğinin ölçümünde IELT kullanıldı. 8 hafta süre ile 30 hastaya 25 mg tramadol ve 30 hastayada plasebo verildi. İlaçı cinsel ilşkiden 1-2 saat önce almaları önerildi. Tramadol ve plasebo tedavi sonrasında IELT sırasıyla 38.83 sn den 154.66 `sn ye 30.66' den 55.83 sn ye ye yükselmiştir bu iki grup arasındaki fark istatistiksel olarak anlamlı bulunmuştur(P < 0.0001).8 haftanın sonunda Tramadol ve plasebo grubunda boşalmayı kontrol edebilme becerisi, cinsel tatmin skorunda anlamlı yükselme gözlenmiştir ve bu oran istatistiksel olarak anlamlı bulunmuştur (P < 0.001).Premature ejaculation (PE) is a worldwide problem without an approved treatment. This study investigates Tramadol efficacy for on-demand treatment of PE. Single-blind and placebo-controlled study was conducted, on 60 patients with lifelong PE. Intravaginal ejaculation latency time (IELT) was used as an objective tool to assess the efficacy of the investigated treatments. PE was defined as IELT of < 1 minutes in 90 % of intercourse episodes. A total of 25 mg of Tramadol was given to one group (30) prior to intercourse and placebo was supplied for the other group (30) for 8 weeks. Drugs were taken 1?2 hours before sexual activity. After the initial treatment period, the two groups took the alternate medication for another 2 months. IELT was timed by a stopwatch at each intercourse and was reported by patients. The mean intravaginal ejaculatory latency time after tramadol and placebo increased from 38,83 and 30.66 seconds to approximately 154.66 and 55.83 seconds, respectively (P < 0.0001). Baseline mean Perceived control over ejaculation and satisfaction with sexual intercourse domain values at 8-week treatment in groups 1 and 2, respectively (P < 0.001)

    Today as a result of the developing information and communication technologies the exposed amount of electromagnetic radiation of the mankind is increasing. Also military and civil early warning systems and positioning systems (radars) are using electromagnetic waves to find objects. During past decades generally low frequency (RF) waves have been used for the data communication and also for radars. However today microwave frequencies are preferred due to the needs for high speed data transfer. Similarly at the military positioning systems (radars) microwave frequencies are preferred for high resolution positioning and accuracy. So for the civil and military technologies it is very important to develop microwave absorption materials that are cheap, durable and show high absorption in a broad band range.In the literature there are several materials investigated and used in the microwave range.Günümüzde gelişen bilgi ve iletişim teknolojilerinin bir sonucu olarak insanların maruz kaldıkları elektromanyetik radyasyon giderek artmaktadır. Bunun yanı sıra askeri ve sivil erken haber alma ve radar sistemlerinde elektromanyetik dalgalardan yararlanır. Geçmiş on yıllarda bilgi iletiminde düşük frekanslı (RF) dalgalar tercih edilse de günümüzde yüksek hızlı veri aktarımına uygunluğu nedeniyle kablosuz veri iletiminde mikrodalgalar tercih edilmektedir. Benzer şekilde askeri yer belirleme sistemlerinde de daha yüksek çözünürlük ve kesinlik için mikrodalgalar kullanılmaktadır. Bu nedenle mikrodalga bölgesinde yüksek soğurma özelliği gösteren, geniş bant aralığına sahip, ucuz ve çevresel dayanımı yüksek soğurucu malzemelerin geliştirilmesi günümüz askeri ve sivil teknolojileri için oldukça önemlidir.Literatürde mikrodalga bölgesinde çalışacak çeşitli soğurucu malzemeler geliştirilmiş ve başarıyla uygulanmıştır
