    Evaluating Current Logistics Facilities with Analytical Hyepapchy Process (AHP) and Geographical Information Systems (GIS)

    Abstract. Logistics facilities which have important position within logistics supply chain are established in order for the demanded goods to be supplied on time, with the minimum cost and in the shortest duration. Given the cost and time factors, the location of such facilities should be selected very carefully and effectively. Especially, a quick settlement in logistics manner is experienced depending on transportation network, work force, proximity to market and raw materials of the times following the industrialization period after establishing the Republic. Nowadays, with the development of transportation and the communication systems as well as technology transportation costs decreased and the facilities and possibilities transport from one place to another increased. For this reason, like the private sector the public institutions and organizations began to shrink, shut down or merge their facilities. This situation was brought to reconsider the existing facilities. The purpose of this study is to evaluate and analyze current six logistics facilities with Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) and Geographical Information Systems (GIS). Analyses results will contribute the decision of revising logistics facilities for which are planned to be restructured. Moreover, suggestions are presented for proper ones to continue operating, for improper ones to get closed or transferred to another place.Keywords.     Weed species at the irrigation channel banks of Aydin plain and a newly introduced species for Aegean Region : chinese lantern (Physalis Alkekengi L.)

    Bu çalışma Aydın Ovası sulama kanalları kenarında yaz ve kış döneminde görülen yabancı ot türlerinin belirlenmesi amacıyla Nisan 2012 ve Eylül 2012 tarihlerinde yürütülmüştür. Harita üzerinde belirlenen 53 örnekleme noktasına gidilerek görülen yabancı ot türlerinin rastlama sıklıkları, yoğunlukları ile genel ve özel kaplama alanları kayda alınmıştır. Nisan 2012 döneminde 96 farklı yabancı ot türüne rastlanırken, Eylül 2012 döneminde 49 tür tespit edilmiştir. Survey sonucunda en çok rastlanan yabancı ot türleri Nisan 2012'de Matricaria chamomilla (L.), Silybum marianum (L.) ve Melilotus officinalis (L.) olurken, Eylül 2012'de Cynodon dactylon (L.) Pers., Sorghum halepense (L.) Pers ve Chenopodium album (L.) olarak belirlenmiştir. Survey sırasında Ege Bölgesi'nde daha önce kaydedilmemiş olan Physalis alkekengi (L.)'ye de rastlanmıştır. Belirlenen yabancı ot türleri ilimizde yaygın olarak yetiştirilen kültür bitkilerindeki surveyler ve Aşağı Seyhan Ovası/ADANA sulama kanallarındaki survey ile benzerlik indeksi kullanılarak kıyaslanmıştır. Daha önce yürütülen surveyler ile yaklaşık 0,3 oranında benzerlik bulunmasına karşın, önceki çalışmalarda tespit edilen türlerin çoğunluğunun Aydın Ovası Sulama kanalları kenarında da belirlendiği görülmüştür.This study was conducted to determine summer and winter weed species at irrigation channel banks of Aydin Plain in April and September 2012. Frequency, density and coverages of weed species were recorded at the 53 sampling points. In April 2012, 96 different weeds species were identified. This number was 49 in September 2012. Matricaria chamomilla (L.), Silybum marianum (L.) and Melilotus officinalis (L.) were the most frequent weeds of survey in April, as Cynodon dactylon (L.) Pers., Sorghum halepense (L.) Pers and Chenopodium album (L.) were the most frequent ones in September. Physalis alkekengi L., that had not been previously recorded in Aegean Region of Turkey, were encountered in our study. Survey results were compared with other weed surveys that had been conducted in crops in Aydin and irrigation channel banks in Asagi Seyhan Plain/ADANA by using similarity index. Although similarity index was calculated around 0.3; most of the weed species –determined in previous studies- were also located in Aydin Plain channel banks

    Evaluation of Vocal Communication in a Robot Collective

    In this research, we attempt to design a model in which multiple robots communicate with an artificial proto-language whose symbols are vocally encoded letters of the Morse alphabet. We have shown that, as the robots have limited sensing and acting abilities, the communicated symbols of the proto-language differentiates from their original versions due to copying errors. We check the effects of two distinct environmental factors, namely the positional distance between the robots and the amount of noise in the environment. It is shown that both of these factors affect, in different ways, how accurately the presented proto-language can be accurately transmitted by the robots

    Improvement Storability of ‘Angeleno’ Plum with the Combination of 1-Methylcyclopropene Treatment and Controlled Atmosphere Storage

    The combined effects of postharvest 1-methylcyclopropene (1-MCP) treatment and controlled atmosphere (CA) storage on storage life and quality of ‘Angeleno’ (Prunus salicina Lindl.) plum were investigated after being treated with 1-MCP (625 ng g-1) at room temperature for 12 h. Following the treatment, fruit were stored in normal atmosphere (NA) and CA (1% O2-3% CO2) at 0 ºC and 90±5% relative humidity for 120 d. Fruit firmness, weight loss, respiration rate, ethylene production, soluble solid content, titratable acidity, fruit skin color and sensorial evaluation (external appearance, taste and chilling injury) were performed at harvest date and one month intervals during storage. Only 1-MCP treatment delayed the change in properties related to fruit ripening such as fruit softening, decrease in titratable acidity and increase in soluble solid content. Nevertheless, these effects were significantly higher when 1-MCP-treated plums were stored in CA conditions. The highest color change was found in NA conditions. ‘Angeleno’ plum stored in CA conditions gave the best results in terms of some quality parameters during storage. The combination of 1-MCP and CA storage prolonged storage life of ‘Angeleno’ plum compared to other treatments. These result demonstrated that the postharvest 1-MCP treatment can be used in the cold storage of Angeleno plums

    Experiences from a non-COVID hub referral orthopedic trauma hospital during the COVID-19 pandemic in Turkey

    Background: During the COVID-19 pandemic period, resources should be reorganized to treat the increased burden of COVID-positive patients under the best conditions while simultaneously providing non-deferrable treatment to patients with no suspicion of COVID-19. In this study, we aimed to analyse the trauma patient profile and treatment strategies that emerged in the regional orthopaedic and traumatology hospital during the pandemic period after the implementation of “hub and spoke” organization among the orthopaedic and traumatology clinics.Methods: This cross-observational study was conducted in a training and research hospital in the field of orthopaedics and traumatology that was converted to a non-COVID referral orthopaedic trauma center during the pandemic. Gender, age, length of hospitalization, duration of trauma, place of trauma, severity of trauma, type of admission, type of anaesthesia and site of trauma were evaluated in the patients that presented between March 16 and May 16, 2020.Results: Of the orthopaedic trauma patients requiring surgery, 169 (62.6%) were men and 101 (37.4%) were women. In comparison of the data with that of the last year, significant increases were observed in the number of home traumas (241.5%), low-energy traumas (87.4%), patients referred from other institutions (328.9%), regional anaesthesia patients (124.2%) and patients with hip traumas (226.7%). The length of hospitalization decreased significantly (p<0.05).Conclusions: The creation of hub and spoke organization through the cooperation of orthopaedics and traumatology clinics in the region can reduce the burden on pandemic hospitals by isolating trauma patients requiring orthopaedic surgery who were not suspected of COVID-19 and directing them to dedicated orthopaedics and traumatology hospital

    Combined Effects of MAP and Postharvest Salicylic Acid Treatment on Quality Attributes of Dill (Anethum graveolens L.) Bunches during Storage

    The effects of combinations of modified atmosphere packaging (MAP) with salicylic acid (SA) treatment on storage and shelf life quality of dill (Anethum graveolens L. cv. Asder) leaves were investigated. After harvest, dill leaves were dipped into an aqueous solution containing different concentrations of salicylic acid (1, 2 and 4 mM) for 2 minutes. The control group was immersed in distilled water only for 2 minutes. Treated samples were dried with blotting paper and placed in modified atmosphere package and stored at 0 ºC and 90±5% relative humidity (RH) conditions for 25 days. After cold storage, dill leaves were kept at 10 ºC and 55-60% RH for 2 days to simulate commercial practice (shelf life), and analyzed for same quality parameters performed during cold storage. Weight loss, color, respiration rate, gas composition in package, soluble solids content (SSC) and ascorbic acid content were determined initially and at 5 dayintervals. The dill bunches were also evaluated for visual quality during storage period. According to the results, SA treatment allowed dill leaves to stay green longer than those of control group. 1 mM concentration of SA was the best treatment for prolonging the storage life of dill leaves with keeping the quality.&nbsp

    Effect of pre-harvest oxalic acid treatment on shelf-life of apricot cv. ‘Roxana’

    Çalışmada, hasat öncesinde oksalik asit (OA) uygulamasının raf ömrü süresince ‘Roxana’ kayısı çeşidinin meyve kalitesi üzerine olan etkisi araştırılmıştır. Bu amaçla, tahmini hasat tarihinden 7 gün önce farklı dozlarda (0, 1, 2, 4 ve 8 mM) oksalik asit uygulanmıştır. Optimum hasat tarihinde (sert olum döneminde) derilen meyveler oda sıcaklığında (20±1°C) ve %50–60 nem koşullarında 8 gün süreyle raf ömründe tutulmuştur. Raf ömrü süresince 2 gün aralıklarla bazı fiziksel ve kimyasal analizler (ağırlık kaybı, metve eti sertliği, suda çözünebilir kuru madde miktarı, titre edilebilir asitlik, meyve rengi, etilen üretimi ve solunum hızı) yapılmıştır. Sonuç olarak, farklı dozlardaki OA uygulamaların hepsi bazı meyve kalite parametrelerindekontrolden daha iyi sonuçlar vermiştir. Özellikle OA’nin 1 mM’lık dozu meyve kalitesinin korunması bakımından en iyi uygulama olduğu saptanmıştır.The effect of pre-harvest oxalic acid treatment on the shelf-life of apricot cv. ‘Roxana’ was investigated. As a result, all doses of OA gave better results than the control group in terms of some quality parameters. Especially, 1 mM dose of OA was the most effective treatment for maintaining fruit quality

    Patient use of complementary and alternative medicine for psoriasis vulgaris and factors believed to trigger the disease: A multicenter cross-sectional study with 1621 patients

    Introduction: Due to the chronic recurrent nature of psoriasis vulgaris (PV) and lack of definitive treatment for the disease, patients often resort to alternative treatments. Physicians seem to have low awareness of this issue. Objectives: To elicit the perceptions of 1,621 PV patients on complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) and examine factors reported to worsen PV. Methods: The patients sociodemographic characteristics, Psoriasis Area Severity Index (PASI), Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI), disease duration, and severity were recorded, and the patients CAM use was questioned in detail. The patients were also asked about factors that worsened PV and their experiences with a gluten-free diet. Results: Of the patients, 56.51% had used CAM. The mean age, illness duration, PASI scores and DLQI of those using CAM were significantly higher. CAM use was significantly higher in those with facial, genital involvement, and arthralgia/arthritis. The patients mostly referred to CAM when PV became severe (46.4%). Of the CAM users, 45.52% used herbal topicals. The physicians of 67.03% did not inquire whether they used CAM. Of the participants, 37.73% considered that stress worsened their disease. Gluten-free diet did not affect PV symptoms in 52.22%. Conclusions: Patients CAM use is often overlooked by dermatologists. Our results showed that more than half the patients used CAM and did not share this information with their physicians. Therefore, the awareness of physicians should be increased and patients should be asked about the use of CAM and directed to the appropriate medical treatment options by physicians

    Bu çalışmada; 34CrNiMo6 alaşımlı çelik, APKT 1705 PER-EM kodlu kesici ucun üç farklı kaplama türü (TiAlN, TiCN ve TiAlN + TiN) ile frezelenerek meydana gelen titreşim, yüzey pürüzlülük ve akım değerleri ölçülmüştür. Deneylerde üç farklı kesme hızı (90, 120 ve 150 m/min), üç farklı ilerleme miktarı (0,12, 0,17 ve 0,22 mm/tooth) ve üç farklı talaş derinliği (1, 2 ve 3 mm) dikkate alınarak, toplam 81 adet deney gerçekleştirilmiştir. Deney sonuçları varyans analizi ve ortalama etki grafikleri kullanılarak yorumlanmıştır. Test sonuçlarına göre, kesme parametreleri ve kaplama çeşidinin yüzey pürüzlülüğü, titreşim ve akım değerlerine etki derecelerinin farklılık gösterdiği görülmektedir. Bu sebeple; kesme parametrelerinin belirlenmesinde, titreşim, yüzey pürüzlülüğü ve akım değerlerinin önemi görülmekle birlikte tek başına yetersiz olabileceği anlaşılmıştır. Daha sağlıklı sonuçlar elde edebilmek için birkaç değişkenin bir arada değerlendirilmesi gerektiği sonucuna ulaşılmıştır.In this study; 34CrNiMo6 alloyed steel was machined with three different coated carbide (TiAlN, TiCN ve TiAlN + TiN) of APKT 1705 PER-EM coded cutting insert and the vibration, surface roughness and current values during the process were measured. Experiments were carried out through three different cutting speeds (90, 120 and 150 m / min), three different feed rates (0,12, 0,17 and 0,22 mm / tooth) and three different depth of cuts (1, 2 and 3 mm) based on 81 full factorial experiments. The experimental results were statistically evaluated using analysis of variance (ANOVA) and mean effect plots. The test results indicated that effect degrees of cutting parameters and coating type differed on surface roughness, vibration and current values. For this reason, determining to cutting parameters, the importance of vibration, surface roughness and concluded current values has been observed but it is understood that it may be insufficient separately. It has been reached that to obtain more accurate results, a few variables should be evaluated together

İlk olarak parafudr tanımlaması yapılıp, tarihsel gelişimine değinilmiştir. Parafudrun ısıl tasarımının ne kadar önemli olduğu ve ısıl bozulmaya gitmesini önlemek için neler yapılması gerektiği örnekler ile verilmiştir. Bugüne kadar parafudr üzerindeki gerilim dağılımını incelemek için bir çok çalışma yapılmış olup, hepsinin sonucunda dağılımın düzensiz olduğu görülmüştür. Bu çalışmalardan bir kısmı, gerilim dağılımının nasıl daha düzenli hale getirilebileceği konusuna yoğunlaşmış olup, son derece etkili çözümler önermiştir. Bunlardan bazıları örnekleri ile birlikte verilmektedir. Bu sonuçlardan da görülebileceği üzere, parafudr elemanları üzerinde yapılacak basit değişiklikler, gerilim dağılımını düzenlemede etkili sonuçlar vermektedir. Gerilim dağılımı ne kadar düzensiz olursa, en üstteki çinko oksit disk diğer disklere göre o kadar daha fazla bir gerilime, dolayısıyla da ısıl zorlanmaya maruz kalmaktadır. Bu durum da en üstteki diskin ısıl bozulmaya gitmesine, dolayısıyla da tüm parafudrun bozulmasına sebep olabilir. Bu konular anlatıldıktan sonra, modellemede kullanılacak olan sonlu elemanlar yönteminin tanımlaması ve formülasyonu verilmiştir. Son bölümde ise örnek bir parafudr modeli oluşturularak, çeşitli durumlardaki gerilim dağılımı incelenmiştir. Farklı kirlenme durumları için modellemeler yapılıp, grafiksel olarak birbirleriyle karşılaştırılmıştır.The goal of this study is, creating a model of metal oxide surge arrester by using finite elements method and analyse voltage distribution for different cases. First, surge arrester description and historical evolution were explained. It was told with examples that how important thermal design is and what can be done to avoid thermal runaway. So many studies were made about voltage distribution on surge arrester till now and all of them found that the distribution is non uniform. Some of these studies were interested in making the voltage distribution uniform and got effective results. A few results were mentioned with examples. As can be seen from these results, making some simple changes on surge arrester elements can give effective results on distribution uniformity. The zinc oxide disc at top is exposed to voltage and thermal stress more than other discs according to the voltage distribution’s non-uniformity. This situation may cause the top disc to go thermal runaway and as a result of this, complete surge arrester may be broken down. After these topics were mentioned, definition and formulation of finite elements method, which was used in modeling, were given. In last section, an example surge-arrester model was created and voltage distributions for different cases were analysed.
