    Empirical analysis of ensemble methods for the classification of robocalls in telecommunications

    With the advent of technology, there has been an excessive use of cellular phones. Cellular phones have made life convenient in our society. However, individuals and groups have subverted the telecommunication devices to deceive unwary victims. Robocalls are quite prevalent these days and they can either be legal or used by scammers to trick one out of their money. The proposed methodology in the paper is to experiment two ensemble models on the dataset acquired from the Federal Trade Commission(DNC Dataset). It is imperative to analyze the call records and based on the patterns the calls can classify as a robocall or not a robocall. Two algorithms Random Forest and XgBoost are combined in two ways and compared in the paper in terms of accuracy, sensitivity and the time taken

    Psoriasis is a chronic, multisystem inflammatory disease with predominantly skin and joint involvement. In Ayurveda all skin diseases are described under the umbrella of Kushtha. Ayurvedic system of medicine is giving good results in management of Psoriasis. Repeated Samshodhana (purificatory therapies) along with Samshamana (palliative therapies) is the main line of treatment if skin diseases in Ayurveda. Three assessments were taken before and after treatment on scoring of Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI), Psoriasis Disability Index (PDI) and PASI score. Score of the patient was 63.3% before treatment and 13.3% after treatment and 3.3% after follow up on Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI), 44.4% before treatment and 15.5% after treatment and 5.3% after follow up on Psoriasis Disability Index (PDI) and 24.5% before treatment, 5.1% after treatment and 1.2% after follow up in PASI (Psoriasis Area and Severity Index).  This case study wants to substantiate the effectiveness of Ayurvedic treatment in the management of Plaque psoriasis

    poster abstractResearch and training into the impacts of environmental insults on water systems and the links between water resources and human health are critical needs nationally and internationally. IUPUI is in an excellent position to take on a leadership role in scholarship and teaching about water quality and health. CEES has built its program and reputation around excellence in water resources and ecosystem restoration research. Key to our success has been the development of a research network founded on strong corporate, governmental and community partnerships and collaborations. This framework is strengthened by the mutual benefit realized by all partners and helps to support IUPUI’s core value of community engagement as an urban research university. In order to maximize the efficient use of resources, CEES is pursuing four strategic objectives in a manner that will further the universities goals of pursuing excellence in 1) research, scholarship and creative activity, 2) teaching and learning, and 3) civic engagement while also enhancing the resource base of the university. The Center places the highest priority on four strategic initiatives: 1. The Center will engage in cutting-edge research and training for mixed agricultural and urban watersheds 2. Evaluate and assess watershed Best Management Practices targeting atrazine, nutrients and emerging contaminants and pathogens 3. Establish a K-12 technology based science education program in water, air and energy 4. Work with state agencies to identify watershed issues associated with Major Moves and other economic development initiatives, the standards to be applied and training needs To this end, the Signature Center program in CEES has focused on building new collaborations with water resources and human health risks. Signature Center funding has provided for new faculty member Dr. Meghna Babbar-Sebens to join the Earth Sciences faculty as an Assistant Professor. Her research is focused on the modeling of water-borne contaminants, and decision support systems for management of water quality and associated ecological and human health risks. Dr. Babbar-Sebens research focuses on a) analysis of uncertainty when models are used to conduct spatially referenced systems-scale environmental assessments, b) incorporation of uncertainty analysis within decision support systems used for risk assessment and management, and c) optimization of water resources planning and management strategies for emergency response and water-borne disease prevention

    An Ayurvedic physician usually depends on classical compound medicinal formulations for treating patients. Sometimes, patients themselves demand us that they will prepare the medicines themselves, especially Kwatha (decoctions). One reason is the superior efficacy of the self prepared medicines than the bottled decoctions due to the presence of chemical preservatives. While preparing formulations, we may need to add or delete drug/drugs depending on the clinical condition of the patient. Scarcity of herbal drugs is also another reason which compels us for substitution. In Bhavaprakasha, there is a reference stating that any drug which is inappropriate and unsuitable to a disease, even though found included in the drug group or medicinal formulae may be rejected and any drug which is found suitable or appropriate may be included though not mentioned in it. There are so many references in Ayurvedic classics where we can see deletion or inclusion of drugs in a formulation according to the condition of the patient or disease. This is an attempt to analyse the logic (the application of Yukti pramana) behind it. This article also want to depict the relevance of logically changing the contents of a medicinal formulation by analyzing its Rasapanchaka (five Ayurvedic principles of drug action), depending on the condition of disease or patient

    PRELIMINARY PHYTOCHEMICAL ANALYSIS OF LEAVES OF GUCHAKARANJA (QUASSIA INDICA GAERTN)

    The drug Guchakaranja is mentioned as one of Karanja variety by Raj Nighantu and Nighantu Ratnakara. The references of the drug are not seen in other classical textbooks of Ayurveda and the only references seen in these two Nighantus. The drug had been correlated to Karinjotta, a locally available plant in Kerala. The drug Guchakaranja is botanically correlated as Quassia indica Gaertn (Samadera indica Gaertn) belonging to the family Simaroubaceae commonly known as Niepa bark tree. The drug had been extensively used in folklore practices and usage of the plant in main stream clinical practices is less. So giving a standardization and to justify its traditional usages preliminary phyochemical analysis had been done. The preliminary phytochemical analysis aims at analyzing the physico chemical property of drugs, their qualitative analysis, ash values, extractive values, moisture and volatile contents, estimation of Tannins and Phenols and HPTLC. Previous studies are available regarding the Qualitative Analysis of phytochemicals, tannin and total phenolic estimation. References regarding ash values, quantitative estimation of fiber, reducing sugar and total sugar, pH, cold and hot alcohol and water soluble extractives, moisture content were not available from previous research works On analyzing the phytochemical constituents present in the crude drug, the drug revealed the presence of alkaloids, flavonoids, saponins, carbohydrates, proteins, phenols, steroids, and tannins. This phytoconstituents present in the drug may be responsible for specific action of the drug. This preliminary phytochemical evaluation may be helpful to identify the potential of Guchakaranja and should be helpful in developing new formulations with additional therapeutic effect

    Neural apparent BRDF fields for multiview photometric stereo

    We propose to tackle the multiview photometric stereo problem using an extension of Neural Radiance Fields (NeRFs), conditioned on light source direction. The geometric part of our neural representation predicts surface normal direction, allowing us to reason about local surface reflectance. The appearance part of our neural representation is decomposed into a neural bidirectional reflectance function (BRDF), learnt as part of the fitting process, and a shadow prediction network (conditioned on light source direction) allowing us to model the apparent BRDF. This balance of learnt components with inductive biases based on physical image formation models allows us to extrapolate far from the light source and viewer directions observed during training. We demonstrate our approach on a multiview photometric stereo benchmark and show that competitive performance can be obtained with the neural density representation of a NeRF.Comment: 9 pages, 6 figures, 1 tabl

    Pregnancy is an important phase in a woman’s life. Health of the pregnant woman has a major role in reducing adverse pregnancy outcomes. Sahasrayoga and Arogyakalpadruma are two important Ayurveda texts of Kerala origin which has references on ante natal care. Both these texts advocates the intake of Ksheerapakas of various drugs, throughout the pregnancy period. It is also a traditional practice to use these medications during antenatal period in many parts of Kerala. This paper aims to review the drugs used for Ksheerapaka and to assess their possible benefits in pregnancy

    Is low amniotic fluid index an indicator of fetal distress and hence delivery?

    Background: Amniotic fluid Index (AFI) is an indicator of fetal well-being. Low AFI is considered to be one of the indications for delivery as it may be associated with fetal distress and birth asphyxia. We sought to determine whether low AFI is an indicator of fetal compromise and an indication to deliver.Methods: This prospective, observational study was conducted at Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology, KMC, Manipal University, India, between August 2013 and Aug 2014. A total of 150 subjects that had induced labor or direct caesarean section for various indications and also having low-normal (5-8) / low (<5) AFI, were recruited. Subjects with fetal anomalies were excluded. Outcome variables studied were, fetal distress in labor, thick meconium stained amniotic fluid, mode of delivery in induced labor, perinatal asphyxia, and respiratory distress syndrome.Results: Out of 150 subjects, 68 (45.4%) had low and 82 (54.6%) had low-normal AFI. Both the groups were matched for demographic characteristics and confounding factors for neonatal outcome. In low AFI group the incidence of Low APGAR (11.7%), perinatal asphyxia (11.7%) and RDS (16.1%) were significantly higher compared to those in low-normal group (3.6%, 1.2% and 2.4% respectively) p = 0.057, 0.006 and 0.002. There was no significant difference between the groups with respect to mode of delivery when labor was induced.Conclusions: Low AFI, especially when it is <5, is an indicator of fetal compromise and one may anticipate perinatal asphyxia and RDS. Hence it is prudent to contemplate delivery when the AFI is between 5 and 8
