    The DSN (Deep Space Network) mission support requirements for Ulysses are summarized. The primary goal of the Ulysses mission is to explore the Sun, its environment, and possible links between solar variability and terrestrial weather and climate. The Ulysses spacecraft will be injected into an interplanetary orbit toward Jupiter after which the spacecraft travels in a heliocentric, out-of-ecliptic orbit with high heliographic inclination. The Ulysses mission objectives are outlined and the DSN support requirements are defined through the presentation of tables and narratives describing the spacecraft flight profile; DSN support coverage; frequency assignments; support parameters for telemetry, command and support systems; and tracking support responsibility

    Nongame Birds, Small Mammals, Reptiles, Fishes: Sand Lake National Wildlife Refuge, 1995-1996

    The goal of this study was to conduct a nongame vertebrate survey at SLNWR by primary habitat types, with emphasis placed on nongame breeding birds and small mammals . Specific objectives were to determine: 1) avian and mammalian species composition by primary habitat types with special emphasis on nongame/neotropical avian species and nongame small mammals, 2) the presence of other vertebrate species (amphibians, reptiles , and fishes) by primary habitat type, 3) present vertebrate biota occurrence, as compared to pre-1940 occurence as found in the literature and other records or sources, 4) significant changes in habitat and/ or vegetation on SLNWR, based on current and historical literature and refuge files, and 5) to make recommendations for preserving/ enhancing populations of nongame vertebrate species on SLNWR

    Effect of non-zero constant vorticity on the nonlinear resonances of capillary water waves

    The influence of an underlying current on 3-wave interactions of capillary water waves is studied. The fact that in irrotational flow resonant 3-wave interactions are not possible can be invalidated by the presence of an underlying current of constant non-zero vorticity. We show that: 1) wave trains in flows with constant non-zero vorticity are possible only for two-dimensional flows; 2) only positive constant vorticities can trigger the appearance of three-wave resonances; 3) the number of positive constant vorticities which do trigger a resonance is countable; 4) the magnitude of a positive constant vorticity triggering a resonance can not be too small.Comment: 6 pages, submitte

    The national blueprint for future basic and translational research to understand factor VIII immunogenicity: NHLBI State of the Science Workshop on factor VIII inhibitors

    Introduction Inhibitor formation against coagulation factor VIII (FVIII) is an unresolved serious problem in replacement therapy for the X‐linked bleeding disorder haemophilia A. Although FVIII inhibitors have been extensively studied, much of the basic mechanism of this immune response remains to be uncovered. Aim Within the NHLBI State of the Science Workshop on Factor VIII Inhibitors, Working Group 3 identified three scientific priorities for basic and translational research on FVIII inhibitor formation. Methods A larger list of potential areas of research was initially developed as a basis for subsequent prioritization. Each scientific goal was further evaluated based on required effort, potential impact, approach, methods, technologies and models. Results The three priorities include the following: activation signals and immune regulation that shape the response to FVIII (including innate immunity, microbiome, adaptive immunity and regulatory T cell studies in humans); utility of animal models and non‐animal approaches (in silico, genetic, single‐cell/sorted population “omics,” in vitro) to help predict inhibitor formation and identify novel therapeutics; and impact of the source of FVIII, its structure and von Willebrand factor on immunogenicity and tolerance. Conclusions Early interactions between FVIII and the immune system, biomarker development and studies in different patient groups (previously treated or untreated, with or without inhibitor formation, patients undergoing immune tolerance induction or gene therapy) deserve particular emphasis. Finally, linking basic to clinical studies, development of a repository for biospecimens and opportunities for interdisciplinary research training are important components to solving the urgent problem of inhibitor formation
