    The incidence of hypertension is high in the elderly and is present in 2/3 of the patients older than 65 years. Prevalence can reach 90% in patients older than 80 years. The presence of isolated systolic hypertension (ISH) is characteristic of this population. However, the prevalence of hypertension by ambulatory blood pressure monitoring (ABPM) is not well known.     Resilient Older Subjects with Heterozygous Familial Hypercholesterolemia, Baseline Differences and Associated Factors

    Despite elevated low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol levels, some older subjects with heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia (HeFH) do not develop atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ACVD) during their lifetime. The factors related to this resilient state have not been fully established. The aim of this study was to evaluate differential characteristics between older HeFH subjects with and without ACVD and factors associated with the presence of ACVD. Subjects were part of the Spanish Atherosclerosis Society Dyslipidemia Registry, and those >= 70 years old and with HeFH were included. Baseline characteristics of these subjects with and without ACVD were compared. A multivariate analysis was performed to assess factors associated with the presence of ACVD. A total of 2148 subjects with HeFH were included. Resilient subjects were mostly female, younger and presented fewer comorbidities with respect to the ACVD group. Subjects without ACVD had higher baseline high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol (55.8 +/- 17.1 vs. 47.9 +/- 15.4 mg/dL; p = 3 risk factors were associated with the presence of ACVD

    Remitting seronegative symmetric synovitis with pitting edema (RS3PE) syndrome is characterized by symmetric synovitis that affects the small joints of the hands and feet with pitting edema in these areas. The importance of identifying this entity lies in its association with underlying pathologies, mostly solid organ neoplasms (especially adenocarcinomas) and hematological ones. We present the case of a patient with recurrent seronegative symmetric synovitis with edema secondary to extranodal B-cell non-Hodking lymphoma associated with gastric lymphoid tissue (gastric MALT lymphoma).El síndrome “Remitting Seronegative Symmetric Synovitis with Pitting Edema” (RS3PE) se caracteriza por una sinovitis simétrica que afecta a las pequeñas articulaciones de manos y pies con edema con fóvea en dichas zonas. La importancia de la identificación de esta entidad radica en su asociación con patologías subyacentes, en su mayoría neoplasias de órgano sólido (especialmente adenocarcinomas) y hematológicas. A continuación, presentamos el caso de un paciente con sinovitis simétrica seronegativa recurrente con edema siendo secundario a un linfoma no Hodking de células B extranodal asociado a tejido linfoide gástrico (Linfoma MALT gástrico)

    Hypertension is the most prevalent cardiovascular risk factor. Despite pharmacological treatment, a high percentage of patients do not achieve an adequate blood pressure control. Renal sympathetic denervation is a minimally invasive intervention for the management of hypertension involving the interruption of the renal artery sympathetic nervous system using a catheter-based approach. The early studies showed promising results, but the controversial results coming from the SYMPLICITY HTN-3 trial sent this technique into oblivion. Over the last 3 years, new clinical trials have appeared including new devices used in different populations, which definitively proves the effectiveness of renal sympathetic denervation. This joint position statement from the Spanish Society of Hypertension-Spanish League for Combating High Blood Pressure (SEH-LELHA), and the Interventional Cardiology Association of the Spanish Society of Cardiology (ACI-SEC) reviews the evidence available on the efficacy and safety profile of renal sympathetic denervation for the management of hypertension.     The thirty gigahertz instrument receiver for the Q-U-I Joint Tenerife experiment: concept and experimental results

    This paper presents the analysis, design, and characterization of the thirty gigahertz instrument receiver developed for the Q-U-I Joint Tenerife experiment. The receiver is aimed to obtain polarization data of the cosmic microwave background radiation from the sky, obtaining the Q,U, and I Stokes parameters of the incoming signal simultaneously. A comprehensive analysis of the theory behind the proposed receiver is presented for a linearly polarized input signal, and the functionality tests have demonstrated adequate results in terms of Stokes parameters, which validate the concept of the receiver based on electronic phase switching

    This document describes the scheme and prototype test results of a broadband radioastronomy receiver aimed to obtain polarisation data of Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) radiation from the sky. Nominal receiver bandwidth is 26 to 36 GHz. The radiometer will work as a polarimeter to obtain the polarisation Stokes parameters (Q, U and I) of the incoming electromagnetic signal to the feed-horns. Prototype tests have demonstrated the receiver concept based on electronic phase switching in two balanced branches. The correlation between signals is performed directly at 31 GHz by a broadband 3 dB/180º hybrid coupler

    Implications of Renal Denervation Therapy in Patients with Sleep Apnea

    Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) syndrome is a prevalent condition characterized by repeated episodes of obstruction of the upper airway, leading to intermittent hypoxemia and important endothelial and anatomical dysfunctions that cause cardiovascular and cerebrovascular disease. The finding of the relationship between OSA and hypertension, especially resistant hypertension (RHT), has increased the interest in therapeutic strategies that affect renal sympathetic activity in these patients. The observational studies published until now demonstrated that renal denervation therapy can reduce the severity of OSA syndrome. Renal sympathetic denervation (RDN) could be a future therapeutic possibility for conditions other than RHT, such as atrial fibrillation, heart failure, obesity, and OSA syndrome, where renal sympathetic system plays an important physiological role.
