An educational handout for an adolescent confused about the difference of added sugars and natural sugars. The purpose of this handout is to help educate an adolescent about added sugar and natural sugars found in common food items. The difference between added sugar and natural sugar is addressed. The handout explains where this information can be located on a nutritional label. This educational handout also addresses risks seen with excessive added sugar intake in recent research for the adolescent populationhttps://dune.une.edu/an_studedres/1181/thumbnail.jp

Characteristics of Southeast Asian Islam as Factors in A Theology of the Christian Mission to Philippine Muslims

    Get PDF
The Christian mission to Islam offers one of the greatest challenges which the Christian Church has ever faced. In 1962 the Lutheran Church in the Philippines, in spite of its limited manpower and resources, accepted the challenge of the Christian mission to Philippine Islam. At the initial stage of this mission it is well to analyze the problem in detail. This demands a thorough understanding of Philippine Islam. The objective of this study is a clear picture of the Muslim situation in the Philippines together with implications for the Christian mission to Philippine Islam

Role of Stress in the Onset of Diabetes Mellitus in Mice.

    Get PDF
This study investigated the effects of stress on the onset of chemically-induced diabetes mellitus in mice. Sixty male ICR mice were randomly divided into 6 groups of 10 mice. A factorial arrangement of 2 factors (streptozotocin (STZ) and stress) was used to produce 6 treatments. Three levels of STZ (0, 25 and 50 mg/kg bodyweight) and 2 levels of stress (stress and no-stress) were used. Stressed groups were exposed to restraint stress 6 hours daily for 18 days. Mice bodyweight, feed consumption and blood glucose levels were recorded regularly during the study period. At the end of the study period, all mice were euthanized and blood was collected and centrifuged to obtain serum for a corticosterone assay. The highest corticosterone levels occurred in the stressed mice that received the highest dose of STZ. There was no difference in corticosterone levels of the 0 STZ stress and no-stress groups. STZ was the significant factor in corticosterone level. The no-stress mice receiving the highest level of STZ showed the greatest increase in glucose levels, while the overall glucose levels of the other groups remained relatively constant. The findings suggest that restraint stress may delay the onset of chemically-induced diabetes mellitus in mice

Requirements for a Confessional Lutheran Dogmatics for Use in Training Filipino Pastors

    Get PDF
Our Lutheran Church was late in beginning work in the Philippines. We do not have much time as American missionaries to work in this field. We have a real challenge before us in building an indigenous Lutheran Church in a short time. This paper is concerned with the doctrinal aapect of the indigenous church. · If a strong, evangelical Lutheran Church is to take root and grow in the Philippines, it must be built upon the right foundation. This must be done in the training of students for the ministry who can better translate these theological concepts to their own people than the American missionary can ever hope to do. It is the conviction of the author that this can be done through the use of the Lutheran Confession in the teaching of the courses in Dogmatics. Some may argue that this must be done only on the basis of Scripture, but if a truly confessional theology is taught it will, at the same time, be a truly biblical theology

    Contractible Theta Complexes of Graphs

    Get PDF
We examine properties of graphs that result in the graph having a contractible theta complex. We classify such properties for tree graphs and graphs with one loop and we introduce examples of graphs with such properties for tree graphs and graphs with one or two loops. For more general graphs, we show that having a contractible theta complex is not an elusive property, and that any skeleton of a graph with at least three loops can be made to have a contractible theta complex by strategically adding vertices to its skeleton

    John Wesley\u27s Concept of Santification

    Get PDF
It is the purpose of this thesis to set forth clearly and objectively the concept of sanctification as it was believed and taught by John Wesley. Concept is used to indicate thought or opinion or view. Sanctification is used in the narrow sense to mean the conduct of the Christian life or holiness of living which follows justification. This concept of sanctification will be limited to its doctrinal content and characteristics with a survey of influences which affected it in one way or another. No attempt is made to trace the social and political implications of this teaching, except in so far as they touch upon the doctrinal background. Finally a brief summary and evaluation of the teaching are given
