Antihyperon-Production in Relativistic Heavy Ion Collision
Recently it has been shown that the observed antiproton yield in heavy-ion
collisions at CERN-SpS energies can be understood by multi-pionic interactions
which enforce local chemical equilibrium of the antiprotons with the nucleons
and pions. Here we show that antihyperons are driven towards local chemical
equilibrium with pions, nucleons and kaons on a timescale of less than 3 fm/c
when applying a similar argument for the antihyperons by considering the
inverse channel of annihilation reactions anti-Y + p to pions + kaons. These
multi-mesonic reactions easily explain the antihyperon yields at CERN-SpS
energies as advertised in pure thermal, hadronic models without the need of a
quark gluon plasma phase. In addition, the argument also applies for AGS

Inner disk clearing around the Herbig Ae star HD\,139614: Evidence for a planet-induced gap ?
Spatially resolving the inner dust cavity of the transitional disks is a key
to understanding the connection between planetary formation and disk dispersal.
The disk around the Herbig star HD 139614 is of particular interest since it
presents a pretransitional nature with an au-sized gap, in the dust, that was
spatially resolved by mid-IR interferometry. Using new NIR interferometric
observations, we aim to characterize the 0.1-10~au region of the HD~139614 disk
further and identify viable mechanisms for the inner disk clearing. We report
the first multiwavelength radiative transfer modeling of the interferometric
data acquired on HD~139614 with PIONIER, AMBER, and MIDI, complemented by
Herschel/PACS photometries. We confirm a gap structure in the um-sized dust,
extending from about 2.5 au to 6 au, and constrained the properties of the
inner dust component: e.g., a radially increasing surface density profile, and
a depletion of 10^3 relative to the outer disk. Since self-shadowing and
photoevaporation appears unlikely to be responsible for the au-sized gap of
HD~139614, we thus tested if dynamical clearing could be a viable mechanism
using hydrodynamical simulations to predict the gaseous disk structure. Indeed,
a narrow au-sized gap is expected when a single giant planet interacts with the
disk. Assuming that small dust grains are well coupled to the gas, we found
that a ~ 3~Mjup planet located at 4.5 au from the star could, in less than 1
Myr, reproduce most of the aspects of the dust surface density profile, while
no significant depletion in gas occurred in the inner disk, in contrast to the
dust. However, the dust-depleted inner disk could be explained by the expected
dust filtration by the gap and the efficient dust growth/fragmentation in the
inner disk regions. Our results support the hypothesis of a giant planet

First L band detection of hot exozodiacal dust with VLTI/MATISSE
For the first time, we observed the emission of hot exozodiacal dust in L band. We used the new instrument MATISSE at the Very Large Telescope Interferometer to detect the hot dust around κ Tuc with a significance of 3σ to 6σ at wavelengths between 3.37 and 3.85μm and a dust-to-star flux ratio of 5 to 7 per cent. We modelled the spectral energy distribution based on the new L band data alone and in combination with H band data published previously. In all cases we find 0.58μm grains of amorphous carbon to fit the κ Tuc observations the best, however, also nanometre or micrometre grains and other carbons or silicates reproduce the observations well. Since the H band data revealed a temporal variability, while our Lband data were taken at a different epoch, we combine them in different ways. Depending on the approach, the best fits are obtained for a narrow dust ring at a stellar distance in the 0.1–029 au range and thus with a temperature between 940 and 1430K. Within the 1σ uncertainty dust location and temperature are confined to 0.032−1.18au and 600−2000K
Elimination of chronic viral infection by blocking CD27 signaling
Neutralizing antibody (nAb) responses to lymphocytic choriomeningitis virus (LCMV) in mice and immunodeficiency virus and hepatitis C virus in humans are usually weak and slow to develop. This may be the result of structural properties of the surface glycoprotein, a low frequency of B cells with neutralizing specificity, and the necessity of prolonged affinity maturation of specific nAbs. In this study, we show that during LCMV infection, CD27 signaling on CD4+ T cells enhances the secretion of interferon-γ and tumor necrosis factor-α. These inflammatory cytokines lead to the destruction of splenic architecture and immunodeficiency with reduced and delayed virus-specific nAb responses. Consequently, infection with the otherwise persistent LCMV strain Docile was eliminated after CD27 signaling was blocked. Our data provide a novel mechanism by which LCMV avoids nAb responses and suggest that blocking the CD27–CD70 interaction may be an attractive strategy to prevent chronic viral infection
Carbonate sedimentation and effects of eutrophication observed at the Kališta subaquatic springs in Lake Ohrid (Macedonia)
To date, little is known about the role of spring waters with respect to authigenic carbonate precipitation in a shallow lacustrine setting. Lake Ohrid, located in Southeastern Europe, is a large lake fed to over 50% by karstic springs of which half enter subaquatically and influence significantly its ecology and species distribution. In order to evaluate how sedimentological processes are influenced by such shallow-water springs, the Kališta subaquatic spring area in the north west of Lake Ohrid was investigated by a sidescan sonar survey and with sediment traps and three transects of gravity short cores. Results indicate that sedimentation in the spring area is dominated by authigenic carbonate precipitation. High sedimentation rates and evidences for bio-induced precipitation processes were observed in the water column and in the sediments. Two distinct stratigraphic units characterize the shallow subsurface, both composed of carbonate silts with high carbonate contents of up to 96%, but differing in color, carbonate content and diatom content. A chronological correlation of the cores by radiocarbon dates and <sup>137</sup>Cs activities places the transition between the two stratigraphic units after ~1955 AD. At that time, coastal sedimentation changed drastically to significantly darker sediments with higher contents of organic matter and more abundant diatoms. This change coincides with the recent human impact of littoral eutrophication
The VLTI/MIDI view on the inner mass loss of evolved stars from the Herschel MESS sample
The mass-loss process from evolved stars is a key ingredient for our
understanding of many fields of astrophysics, including stellar evolution and
the chemical enrichment of the interstellar medium via stellar yields. One the
main unsolved questions is the geometry of the mass-loss process. Taking
advantage of the results from the Herschel Mass loss of Evolved StarS (MESS)
programme, we initiated a coordinated effort to characterise the geometry of
mass loss from evolved red giants at various spatial scales. For this purpose
we used the MID-infrared interferometric Instrument (MIDI) to resolve the inner
envelope of 14 asymptotic giant branch stars (AGBs) in the MESS sample. In this
contribution we present an overview of the interferometric data collected
within the frame of our Large Programme, and we also add archive data for
completeness. We studied the geometry of the inner atmosphere by comparing the
observations with predictions from different geometric models. Asymmetries are
detected for five O-rich and S-type, suggesting that asymmetries in the N band
are more common among stars with such chemistry. We speculate that this fact is
related to the characteristics of the dust grains. Except for one star, no
interferometric variability is detected, i.e. the changes in size of the shells
of non-mira stars correspond to changes of the visibility of less than 10%. The
observed spectral variability confirms previous findings from the literature.
The detection of dust in our sample follows the location of the AGBs in the
IRAS colour-colour diagram: more dust is detected around oxygen-rich stars in
region II and in the carbon stars in region VII. The SiC dust feature does not
appear in the visibility spectrum of UAnt and SSct, which are two carbon stars
with detached shells. This finding has implications for the theory of SiC dust

Early complications after living donor nephrectomy: analysis of the Swiss Organ Living Donor Health Registry.
We evaluated the prospectively collected data about the incidence of early peri- and postoperative complications, and potential risk factors for adverse outcomes after living kidney donation in Switzerland.
Peri- and postoperative events were prospectively recorded on a questionnaire by the local transplant teams of all Swiss transplant centres and evaluated by the Swiss Organ Living Donor Health Registry. Complications were classified according to the Clavien grading system. A total of 1649 consecutive donors between 1998 and 2015 were included in the analysis.
There was no perioperative mortality observed. The overall complication rate was 13.5%. Major complications defined as Clavien ≥3 occurred in 2.1% of donors. Obesity was not associated with any complications. Donor age >70years was associated with major complications (odds ratio [OR] 3.99) and genitourinary complications (urinary tract infection OR 5.85; urinary retention OR 6.61). There were more major complications observed in donors with laparoscopic surgery versus open surgery (p = 0.048), but an equal overall complication rate (p = 0.094).
We found a low rate of major and minor complications, independent of surgical technique, after living donor nephrectomy. There was no elevated complication rate in obese donors. In contrast, elderly donors >70 years had an elevated risk for perioperative complications
