    Holographic QCD for H-dibaryon (uuddss)

    The H-dibaryon (uuddss) is studied in holographic QCD for the first time. In holographic QCD, four-dimensional QCD, i.e., SU(NcN_c) gauge theory with chiral quarks, can be formulated with S1S^1-compactified D4/D8/D8\overline{\rm D8}-brane system. In holographic QCD with large NcN_c, all the baryons appear as topological chiral solitons of Nambu-Goldstone bosons and (axial) vector mesons, and the H-dibaryon can be described as an SO(3)-type topological soliton with B=2B=2. We derive the low-energy effective theory to describe the H-dibaryon in holographic QCD. The H-dibaryon mass is found to be twice of the B=1B=1 hedgehog-baryon mass, MH2.00MB=1HHM_{\rm H} \simeq 2.00 M_{B=1}^{\rm HH}, and is estimated about 1.7GeV, which is smaller than mass of two nucleons (flavor-octet baryons), in the chiral limit.Comment: 6 pages, 4 figures. arXiv admin note: substantial text overlap with arXiv:1610.0047

Holographic QCD is derived from a QCD-equivalent D-brane system (S1S^1-compactified D4/D8/D8\overline{\rm D8}) in the superstring theory via the gauge/gravity correspondence. In holographic QCD, all baryons appear as topological chiral solitons of Nambu-Goldstone bosons and (axial) vector mesons. In this framework, the H-dibaryon can be described as an SO(3)-type hedgehog state.     1+1 Large NcN_c QCD and its Holographic Dual -Soliton Picture of Baryons in Single-Flavor World

    We study baryons in holographic QCD corresponding to 1+1 dimensional single-flavor (NfN_f=1) QCD for the first time. We formulate 1+1 QCD using an S1S^1-compactified D2/D8/D8\overline{\rm D8} branes in the superstring theory, and describe the baryon as a topological configuration in 1+1 NfN_f=1 QCD, corresponding to Π1(U(1))=Z\Pi_1({\rm U(1)})={\bf Z}. Unlike 1+3 QCD with Nf2N_f \ge 2, however, we find that the low-dimensional baryonic soliton is generally unstable against a scale transformation/variation and swells infinitely in 1+1 NfN_f=1 QCD at the leading of large NcN_c. We thus point out a serious difficulty on the soliton picture of baryons in large NcN_c in the single-flavor world in both 1+1 and 1+3 QCD. We also compare the low-dimensional holographic baryon with the Abrikosov vortex, i.e., a stable topological configuration in Type-II superconductors.Comment: 5 pages, 3 figure

    Wino Dark Matter and Future dSph Observations

    We discuss the indirect detection of the wino dark matter utilizing gamma-ray observations of dwarf spheroidal galaxies (dSphs). After carefully reviewing current limits with particular attention to astrophysical uncertainties, we show prospects of the wino mass limit in future gamma-ray observation by the Fermi-LAT and the GAMMA-400 telescopes. We find that the improvement of the so-called JJ-factor of both the classical and the ultra-faint dSphs will play a crucial role to cover whole mass range of the wino dark matter. For example, with δ(log10J)=0.1\delta (\log_{10}J) = 0.1 for both the classical and the ultra-faint dSphs, whole wino dark matter mass range can be covered by 15 years and 10 years data at the Fermi-LAT and GAMMA-400 telescopes, respectively.Comment: 32 pages, 13 figure

    Violence and warfare in prehistoric Japan

    The origins and consequences of warfare or largescale intergroup violence have been subject of long debate. Based on exhaustive surveys of skeletal remains for prehistoric hunter-gatherers and agriculturists in Japan, the present study examines levels of inferred violence and their implications for two different evolutionary models, i.e., parochial altruism model and subsistence model. The former assumes that frequent warfare played an important role in the evolution of altruism and the latter sees warfare as promoted by social changes induced by agriculture. Our results are inconsistent with the parochial altruism model but consistent with the subsistence model, although the mortality values attributable to violence between hunter-gatherers and agriculturists were comparable

    Whether man is predisposed to lethal violence, ranging from homicide to warfare, and how that may have impacted human evolution, are among the most controversial topics of debate on human evolution. Although recent studies on the evolution of warfare have been based on various archaeological and ethnographic data, they have reported mixed results: it is unclear whether or notwarfare among prehistoric hunter–gathererswas common enough to be a component of human nature and a selective pressure for the evolution of human behaviour. This paper reports the mortality attributable to violence, and the spatio-temporal pattern of violence thus shown among ancient hunter–gatherers using skeletal evidence in prehistoric Japan (the Jomon period: 13 000 cal BC–800 cal BC). Our results suggest that the mortality due to violence was low and spatio-temporally highly restricted in the Jomon period, which implies that violence including warfare in prehistoric Japan was not common

    We consider a job scheduling problem under precedence constraints, a classical problem for a single processor and multiple jobs to be done. The goal is, given processing time of n fixed jobs and precedence constraints over jobs, to find a permutation of n jobs that minimizes the total flow time, i.e., the sum of total wait time and processing times of all jobs, while satisfying the precedence constraints. The problem is an integer program and is NP-hard in general. We propose a decision diagram pi-MDD, for solving the scheduling problem exactly. Our diagram is suitable for solving linear optimization over permutations with precedence constraints. We show the effectiveness of our approach on the experiments on large scale artificial scheduling problems

    Scale effect of slip boundary condition at solid–liquid interface

    Rapid advances in microelectromechanical systems have stimulated the development of compact devices, which require effective cooling technologies (e.g., microchannel cooling). However, the inconsistencies between experimental and classical theoretical predictions for the liquid flow in microchannel remain unclarified. Given the larger surface/volume ratio of microchannel, the surface effects increase as channel scale decreases. Here we show the scale effect of the boundary condition at the solid–liquid interface on single-phase convective heat transfer characteristics in microchannels. We demonstrate that the deviation from classical theory with a reduction in hydraulic diameters is due to the breakdown of the continuum solid–liquid boundary condition. The forced convective heat transfer characteristics of single-phase laminar flow in a parallel-plate microchannel are investigated. Using the theoretical Poiseuille and Nusselt numbers derived under the slip boundary condition at the solid–liquid interface, we estimate the slip length and thermal slip length at the interface
