“It Was Journalism that Abandoned Me”: An Analysis of Journalism in Portugal

    Get PDF
Over the last few decades, journalism in Portugal has undergone a series of changes in both its practice and its conditions. This reconfiguration has been reinforced by the noticeable rise in layoffs and fixed-term contracts, particularly after the implementation of an austerity program over the last few years. This has led many journalists to abandon their job, either voluntarily or otherwise. The present article aims to analyse these trends through the socio-professional trajectories of ex-journalists, seeking to understand what led to the end of their careers, what came after, and what is their current outlook on journalism.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

TU1406 COST Action - Quality specifications for roadway bridges, standardization at a European level (BridgeSpec)

Asset management strategies rely on maintenance actions to keep infrastructures at desired levels of performance. In case of roadway bridges, specific performance indicators are established for their components and, when combined, allow to evaluate the overall performance. These indicators, which can be qualitative or quantitative based, are obtained during principal inspections through visual examination, non-destructive testing and by temporary or permanent monitoring systems. After being obtained, these indicators are then compared with performance goals in order to evaluate if quality control plans are accomplished. It is possible to verify the existence in Europe of multiple methods used to quantify these indicators and how such goals are specified. COST Action TU1406 aims to establish a European guideline in this matter, addressing new indicators related to sustainable and economic performance of roadway bridges. An overview of this Action, with a special liaison to the sustainability issues, is provided along this paper

During the second half of the nineteenth century and early twentieth century the discipline of secondary mathematics was gradually built in Portugal and certified teachers, textbooks, programs, special teaching techniques emerge. This consolidation process ends with the emergency of school subjects that develop some kind of autonomy as Chervel puts it. This article discusses how the school discipline of mathematics in secondary education in Portugal was set. This process is inseparable from teacher training and so we will observe professional legitimation processes paying special attention to ways in which autonomy has been building and modifying over time

Currently, the digital economy contributes decisively to an increase in competitiveness, especially as a digital transformation involves migrating to new technological models where digital marketing is a key part of growth and user loyalty strategies. Internet and Digital Marketing have become important factors in campaigns, which attract and retain Internet users. This study aims to identify the main ways in which users can be gained and retained by using Digital Marketing. The Delphi method with in-depth interviews was the methodology used in this study. The results of the research show the most important actions for achieving user recruitment and loyalty with Digital Marketing from the opinions of consulted experts. The limitations of this study are those related to the number of experts included in the study, and the number of research papers consulted in the literature review. The literature review and the results of this research are used to propose new solid research with a consolidated critical methodology. This research deals with a new approach that will optimize web technologies for the evolution of user trends, and therefore, will be of academic and professional use for marketing managers and web solution developers. The conclusions of the investigation show the key factors, discarding others that do not affect the optimization of conversions in B2C businesses such as the duration of the session and the rebound percentage. Likewise, the results of the research identify the specific actions that must be carried out to attract and retain users in B2C companies that use the Digital Marketing ecosystem on the Internet. The requirements for companies that wish to implement a model to optimize conversions using the current digital economy are also shown.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Este proceso va unido a la formación docente y, por tanto, se observan procesos de legitimación profesional, prestando especial atención a las formas en que la autonomía se ha estado construyendo y modificando en el tiempo
