Clinicians have worried about the effect the rapid maxillay expansion (RME) might have on the lower face height (LFH). This study cephalometrically evaluated the LFH after RME, using two kinds of palatal expanders (Haas–G1 and Hyrax–nG2). The sample contained 93 lateral cephalograms from 31 brasilian patients, 15 females and 16 males; with a mean age of 13.2 years, and a range of 9-16 years. The cephalograms were taken before disjunction (T1), immediately after disjunction (T2) and after leveling (T3). G1 and G2 experienced similar changes in N-Me. S-Go didn’t change, but both groups showed gradative increases of values in T2 and T3. G1 and G2 displayed increased anterior and posterior LFH (Me-PP and GO-PP) in T2 and T3. After using both types of palatal expanders showed statistically significant increases in anterior and posterior LFH.O aumento que ocorre na altura facial inferior (AFI) após expansão rápida da maxila (ERM) preocupa os pesquisadores.

Clinical Spectrum of West Nile Virus Neuroinvasive Disease.
West Nile virus (WNV) is the most common arbovirus infection in the United States. The diagnosis requires consideration of not only a broad spectrum of presenting symptoms, ranging from a mild febrile illness to severe encephalitis and acute flaccid paralysis, but also public health risk factors and seasonality. There is no approved targeted therapy for WNV, so treatment relies on supportive care, management of neurologic sequelae and airway, treatment of other systems including the eye, and aggressive rehabilitation. Here, we describe a series of 3 cases of WNV encountered in September 2018 at one institution. First, we describe a case of WNV encephalitis with worsened dyskinesias and a relatively good recovery. Second, we describe a severe WNV encephalitis with overlying motor neuron involvement with a poor outcome. Finally, we describe a case of a WNV meningitis with significant bilateral chorioretinitis, an underappreciated complication of WNV infections. Through these cases, we review the epidemiology of WNV, risk factors for infection, the neurologic sequalae and long-term outcomes, and the importance of recognizing ocular involvement to prevent ophthalmologic complications

Posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome is not associated with mutations in aquaporin-4
Posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome (PRES) is characterized by acute reversible subcortical vasogenic edema that is typically bilateral and self-limiting. It preferentially affects posterior regions of the brain. Clinical manifestations include encephalopathy, seizures, headache, and cortical blindness. PRES may be precipitated by hypertensive crises such as eclampsia and by immunosuppressive agents. The pathophysiology of PRES is incompletely understood. Disordered cerebral autoregulation leading to protein and fluid extravasation is thought to be important.1 Other theories implicate endothelial dysfunction or vasospasm.
This study is aimed at identifying risk factors for sports injuries (SI) in 307 students of a Physical Education School in Sorocaba, SP. Associations were explored between SI, sports modality, and body region affected. Investigation was observational, cross-sectional, independent variables being gender, age, body mass index (BMI), school period, course stage and modality; reports of SI occurring in the last two weeks were taken as dependent variables. SI data were collected by means of a morbidity questionnaire. Profile analysis was performed by c² test and multivariate analysis by logistic modeling. Main results indicated: 1) significant predominance of SI in lower limbs; 2) associations between strain and sprain in lower limbs; 3) higher incidence of SI during the first semester of school as compared to the seventh semester, and 4) gender, age and BMI did not show influence as risk factors for SI
Characterization for plant height and flowering date in the biological species oat
The use of wild oat races in artificial hybridization with cultivated oat (Avena sativa L.) has been used as a way of increasing the variability. This work aimed to identify the variability for plant height and flowering date of groups of cultivated oat genotypes, wild introductions of A. fatua L. and segregating populations of natural crosses between A. sativa and A. fatua. Wide genetic variability was observed for both traits in the groups and between them. The wild group of A. fatua L. showed high plants with early maturity, but in the segregating group there was reduced plant height and early maturity. The wild introductions of A. fatua L. studied in this work can be used in oat breeding programs to increase genetic variability by transferring specific characters into the cultivated germ plasm
