Los artefactos pulidos y biselados en las comunidades del Horizonte de los Sepulcros de Fosa en el nordeste de la península ibérica a través del estudio petrológico, funcional y tecnológico

The present work’s empirical foundation is the use-wear, petrological and technological analysis of polished and bevelled stone artefacts, found both in funerary and domestic contexts of the communities living in the North-East of the Iberian Peninsula around the turn of the fifth and fourth millennia Before Christ.The new data provides fresh insight into the raw material management, the technical choices and the productive processes in which the tools were employed.The results of our research help us to understand and explain the documented variability from a sociological point of view.El presente trabajo tiene como fundamento empírico el análisis funcional, petrológico y tecnológico de los instrumentos de piedra pulida y biselada encontrados en los principales contextos funerarios y domésticos de las comunidades que vivieron en el nordeste de la península ibérica entre el final del V y principios del IV milenio cal ANE. Los nuevos datos han permitido conocer en profundidad la gestión de las materias primas y el valor objetivo de los ítems estudiados, así como los procesos productivos en los que fueron utilizados. Gracias a estos resultados hemos podido entender y explicar la variabilidad documentada en el registro desde un punto de vista sociológico

Anàlisis de microrestes i residus d'origen vegetal en contextos arqueològics : _tòlits i midons

Amb aquest article pretenem exposar, d'una manera més accessible que la que podem trobar a la literatura relacionada amb aquest àmbit de la investigació, les dimensions d'estudi que poden oferir els anàlisis de midons i ~tòlits en contextos arqueològics. En cap cas aquest escrit és resultat d’una investigació pròpia ni te pretensions de genuïnitat o de representativitat bibliogrà~ca del tema. Simplement aspirem a posar a l’abast de les persones que comencen a iniciar-se en el món de l’Arqueologia una eina que, com veurem, ha demostrat ser útil i ~able. Amb aquest objectiu començarem per presentar quines són les característiques físiques i químiques d'aquestes biomolècules així com les seves funcions en els organismes vius. Seguidament ens centrarem en citar els contextos en els que l'Arqueologia pot fer ús d'aquest tipus d'anàlisi, ~xant-nos en els diferents suports materials en els que podem trobar aquest tipus de residu. En última instància valorarem els pros i contres de les maneres en què s'ha dut a terme la utilització d'aquest tipus d'anàlisis en la creació de coneixement històric.The aim of this paper is to expose in an accessible way the dimensions of study that can offer the analysis of starch grains and phytoliths in archaeological contexts. With these intention we will start exposing the main physical and chemical characteristics of these biomolecules and their function in living beings. Continuously,we will focus our atention on mentioning the contexts in which Archaeology can use this type of analysis,attending to the different supports in which we can gnd this kind of residue. Finally,we will evaluate the pros and cons of the ways in which the analysis of phyto and starch grains have been done in the process of generating historical knowledge

Estudi de les comunitats neolítiques de l’Horitzó dels Sepulcres de Fossa (nord-est de la península Ibèrica, c. 4.000-3.400 cal ANE) a partir de les anàlisis tecno-funcionals dels artefactes polits i bisellats

The present dissertation generates a new data corpus which makes it possible to resize and widen the current interpretative framework about the communities living in the North-East of the Iberian Peninsula around the turn of the fifth and fourth millennia Before Christ. The empirical foundation of this research is the analysis of polished and bevelled stone artefacts, found both in funerary and domestic contexts. In order to accomplish the goals of this research, it has been necessary to expand the use-wear analysis methodology and adapt it to the study of the kind of stones that are examined here through the development of extensive an experimental programme. The new data provides fresh insight into the raw material management, the technical choices and the productive processes in which the tools were employed by the studied Neolithic communities. The results of our research help us to understand and explain the documented variability from a sociological point of viewAquesta tesi gener un nou corpus de dades que eixampla l’actual marc interpretatiu pel que fa a les comunitats que van viure al nord est de la Península Ibèrica entre el final del cinquè i principis del quart mil•lenni ANE. El fonament empíric d’aquesta investigació és l’anàlisi dels instruments de pedra polida i bisellada trobats en contextos funeraris i domèstics. En aquesta direcció ha estat necessari expandir la metodologia d’anàlisis funcional per tal d’adaptar-la a l’estudi del tipus de litologies examinades mitjançant el desenvolupament d’un ampli programa experimental. Temporality and gender relations during the early Neolithic in Central Europe: the case of Schwetzingen Cemetery (South-Western Germany)

In this presentation, we will explore gender during the Early Neolithic in Central Europe by analysing one of the largest Linearbankeramik funerary contexts: the Schwetzingen cemetery (south-western Germany). The site has previously been subjected to detailed anthropological, isotopic and grave good analysis in the framework of interdisciplinary studies, producing hints at variation between the genders and possibly other categories of identity. However, as only 6% of the 178 graves have been dated, whether these differences represent different identity classes or change over time remains uncertain. Here, we present the results from a new set of 14C dates, interpreted within a Bayesian framework, to assess a more robust and complete sequence for the cemetery. This new chronological model allows for a reassessment of the variations found in burial practices, diet (¿13C & ¿15N) and mobility (87Sr/86Sr). Multiple correspondence analysis will be applied to explore dynamics in burial practices, social organization and gender relations

L'explotació prehistòrica del sílex a la Serra Llarga: les pedreres de Montvell (Castelló de Farfanya, Noguera)

Les pedreres de Montvell constitueixen la primera evidència d'un context especialitzat en l¿extracció de roques silícies documentat a la prehistòria de les comarques catalanes. Aquestes pedreres es focalitzaren vers l¿explotació dels nòduls de sílex a la Serra Llarga, a la comarca lleidatana de la Noguera. Diverses evidències permeten proposar que aquest context miner fou explotat, almenys, durant el Mesolític i en diferents moments del Neolític

La Arqueología (Social) que necesitamos

La confección de este artículo colectivo surge de una inquietud compartida por l@s estudiantes de Arqueología de la UAB: ¿qué utilidad tiene nuestra profesión dentro de la sociedad? ¿Por qué nos repiten una y otra vez que el objetivo de la Arqueología es generar conocimientos sobre los procesos de cambio de las sociedades y se hace tan difícil verlo en las publicaciones? La respuesta, la nuestra, es que sólo la A.S. puede tener un valor realmente útil para nuestras sociedades.The preparation of this article stems from a concern shared by archaeology students at the UAB: what use has our task within society? Why do we repeat over and over again that the goal of archaeology is to generate knowledge about the processes of change in societies and then it so difficult to see it in publications? Our answer is that only Social Archaeology can have a really useful value to our societies
