A hybrid job-shop scheduling system
The intention of the scheduling system developed at the Fraunhofer-Institute for Material Flow and Logistics is the support of a scheduler working in a job-shop. Due to the existing requirements for a job-shop scheduling system the usage of flexible knowledge representation and processing techniques is necessary. Within this system the attempt was made to combine the advantages of symbolic AI-techniques with those of neural networks
Wavefunction extended Lagrangian Born-Oppenheimer molecular dynamics
Extended Lagrangian Born-Oppenheimer molecular dynamics [Niklasson, Phys.
Rev. Lett. 100 123004 (2008)] has been generalized to the propagation of the
electronic wavefunctions. The technique allows highly efficient first
principles molecular dynamics simulations using plane wave pseudopotential
electronic structure methods that are stable and energy conserving also under
incomplete and approximate self-consistency convergence. An implementation of
the method within the planewave basis set is presented and the accuracy and
efficiency is demonstrated both for semi-conductor and metallic materials.Comment: 6 pages, 3 figure
Thymoma and Thymic Carcinoma: Molecular Pathology and Targeted Therapy
Abstract:Thymomas and thymic carcinomas (TC) are rare epithelial tumors of the thymus. Although most thymomas have organotypic features (i.e., resemble the normal thymus), TC are morphologically undistinguishable from carcinomas in other organs. Apart from their different morphology, TC and thymomas differ also in functional terms (TC, in contrast to thymomas, have lost the capacity to promote the maturation of intratumorous lymphocytes), have different genetic features (discussed in this review), a different immunoprofile (most TC overexpress c-KIT, whereas thymomas are consistently negative), and different clinical features (TC, in contrast to thymomas, are not associated with paraneoplastic myasthenia gravis). Thus, although all the data suggest that the biology of thymomas and TC is different, in clinical practice, their therapeutic management up to now is identical. In the age of personalized medicine, the time may have come to think this over. We will briefly review the molecular genetics of malignant thymic tumors, summarize the current status of targeted therapies with an emphasis on the multitargeted kinase inhibitors sunitinib and sorafenib, and try to outline some future directions
Dependence of the density of states outer measure on the potential for deterministic Schr\"odinger operators on graphs with applications to ergodic and random models
We continue our study of the dependence of the density of states measure and
related spectral functions of Schr\"odinger operators on the potential. Whereas
our earlier work focused on random Schr\"odinger operators, we extend these
results to Schr\"odinger operators on infinite graphs with deterministic
potentials and ergodic potentials, and improve our results for random
potentials. In particular, we prove the Lipschitz continuity of the DOSm for
random Schr\"odinger operators on the lattice, recovering results of
\cite{kachkovskiy, shamis}. For our treatment of deterministic potentials, we
first study the density of states outer measure (DOSoM), defined for all
Schr\"odinger operators, and prove a deterministic result of the modulus of
continuity of the DOSoM with respect to the potential. We apply these results
to Schr\"odinger operators on the lattice and the Bethe lattice. In the
former case, we prove the Lipschitz continuity of the DOSoM, and in the latter
case, we prove that the DOSoM is -log-H\"older continuous. Our
technique combines the abstract Lipschitz property of one-parameter families of
self-adjoint operators with a new finite-range reduction that allows us to
study the dependency of the DOSoM and related functions on only finitely-many
variables and captures the geometry of the graph at infinity.Comment: Related to arXiv:1804.02444 and arXiv:1904.01118 by the authors; New
appendices C and D are added and typos corrected. Appendix C discusses
inequalities between the metric of weak convergence of measures and the
Kantorovich-Rubinstein-Wasserstein metric. Appendix D presents results on
continuity of the Hausdorff distance between two spectra with respect to the
potential
