The purpose of this article is to identify the attributes that discriminate the prices of personal desktop computers. We employ the hedonic price method in evaluating such characteristics. This approach allows market prices to be expressed as a function, a set of attributes present in the products and services offered. Prices and characteristics of up to 3,779 desktop personal computers offered in the IT pages of one of the main Brazilian newspapers were collected from January 2003 to December 2007. Several specifications for the hedonic (multivariate) linear regression were tested. In this particular study, the main attributes were found to be hard drive capacity, screen technology, main board brand, random memory size, microprocessor brand, video board memory, digital video and compact disk recording devices, screen size and microprocessor speed. These results highlight the novel contribution of this study: the manner and means in which hedonic price indexes may be estimated in Brazil

The present paper has a double objective. First, to evaluate the importance of geopolitical concepts for the understanding of Brazil’s current political conjuncture, and secondly to identify the influence of Friederich Ratzel’s thinking (1844-1904) on two contemporary conceptions that seek to renew Brazilian geopolitics. In the development of the text, it is pointed out that the Ratzelian concepts of “Space” and “Position” are present both in the conceptions of André Roberto Martin and of Samuel Pinheiro Guimarães, thus connecting them to geopolitical realism. In addition, it was possible to verify that another pivotal idea of Ratzel, also present among Brazilian thinkers, is the understanding that the technical domain of the environment is a crucial element in the separation between the “subject states” and the “object states” in the history of the international arena.O trabalho tem um duplo objetivo.

Evaluation of the metabolism of glycosaminoglycans in patients with interstitial cystis

Introduction: Painful bladder syndrome/interstitial cystitis (PBS/IC) pathogenesis is not fully known, but evidence shows that glycosaminoglycans (GAG) of bladder urothelium can participate in its genesis. The loss of these compounds facilitates the contact of urine compounds with deeper portions of bladder wall triggering an inflammatory process. We investigated GAG in urine and tissue of PBS/IC and pure stress urinary incontinence (SUI) patients to better understand its metabolism. Materials and Methods: Tissue and urine of 11 patients with PBS/IC according to NIDDK criteria were compared to 11 SUI patients. Tissue samples were analyzed by histological, immunohistochemistry and immunofluorescence methods. Statistical analysis were performed using t Student test and Anova, considering significant when p < 0.05. Results: PBS/IC patients had lower concentration of GAG in urine when compared to SUI (respectively 0.45 ± 0.11 x 0.62 ± 0.13 mg/mg creatinine, p < 0.05). However, there was no reduction of the content of GAG in the urothelium of both groups. Immunofluorescence showed that PBS/IC patients had a stronger staining of TGF-beta, decorin (a proteoglycan of chondroitin/dermatan sulfate), fibronectin and hyaluronic acid. Conclusion: the results suggest that GAG may be related to the ongoing process of inflammation and remodeling of the dysfunctional urothelium that is present in the PBS/IC.Fundação de Amparo à Pesquisa do Estado de São Paulo (FAPESP)University of São Paulo Medical Schoo Division of UrologyFederal University of São Paulo Division of UrologyFederal University of São Paulo Division of Molecular BiologyUNIFESP, Division of UrologyUNIFESP, Division of Molecular BiologySciEL

Relations of girls students to martial arts knowledge in Physical Education lessons

Based on “relation to knowledge” theory of Bernard Charlot, the question of this investigation is: what are the relations of meaning and mobilization of girls with martial arts knowledge? This a qualitative study with the following procedures: lessons observation of judo content in a seventh grade class of Midle School; and semi-estructured interviews with 17 class students. The results indicated less mobilization of girls in comparison to boys. The elements unfavorable to female mobilziation were separated into three categories: (i) masculinization and machismo in martial arts; (ii) the fear of being hurt; (iii) embarrassment to expose yourself. To conclude, is important to emphasize that difficulties of gender and martial arts does not mean discarding them from the pedagogical process, but rather encourages the creation of experiences that subvert and trangress such barries

A IMPORTÂNCIA DA GESTÃO DE PESSOAS PARA AS ORGANIZAÇÕES

    Get PDF

Scanning Tunneling Microscopy, Voltammetry, and X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy Study of the Early Stages of Electrochemical Faceting of Gold (111) in Aqueous Sulfuric and Perchloric Acid

    Get PDF
The mechanism of the early stages of the electrochemical faceting of Au(111) in 1 M aqueous sulfuric and 1 M aqueous perchloric acid was investigated, at room temperature, combining voltammetry, scanning tunneling microscopy, and X-ray photoelectronic spectroscopy data. The analysis of the first electro-oxidation scan indicates that the formation of OH- and O-electroadsorbed species is accompanied by 2D clustering. Subsequent electro-oxidation scans involve the participation of deeper Au(111) atom layers. Clustering effects are favored by the presence of specifically adsorbed anions. After the electro-oxidation scan, the subsequent fast electroreduction of OH- and O-adsorbates initially produces spinoidal patterns that disappear by clustering, 2D metal island growth at different lattice levels, coalescence of islands, and 2D Ostwald ripening. This complex mechanism involves the participation of cooperative surface phenomena. Repetitive electro-oxidation/electroreduction potential cycling assists the formation of small 3D crystallites leading to Au(111) surface faceting.Instituto de Investigaciones Fisicoquímicas Teóricas y Aplicada
