The species of tricolor group are redefined, because currently their limits are not very clear. Phalotris punctatus differs from P. tricolor mainly by dorsal coloration ocher reddish (vs. red), black dots widespread on dorsal side (vs. immaculate), smaller size, up to 770 mm, usually 400 mm (vs. up to 940 mm, usually 500), occurring in the biomes Monte Desert and Chaco, Argentina (vs. Austral Chaco, in Paraguay and Bolivia). Phalotris punctatus is similar to P. cuyanus differing of it mainly by presence of widespread dorsal dots (vs. absent; if present, few dots on vertebral row of scales); black head ventrally (vs. immaculate white), black snout (vs. immaculate ocher); reddish vertebral zone ocher (vs. fully ocher); and distribution in northern to western Argentina, barely reaching Paraguay (vs. northern Argentina, reaching Buenos Aires and neighboring Provinces). Keywords: Chaco, Monte, patterns, cuyanus, punctatus.

THE COMPLEXITY OF THE Apostolepis dimidiata GROUP, WITH PARTITION IN TWO GROUPS (SERPENTES: DIPSADIDAE: XENODONTINAE: ELAPOMORPHINI)

The species of Apostolepis located in the dimidiata group are heterogeneous, only justified by the projection of snout. The comparison of species located allowed the isolation of the small species from central-western Brazil, Bolivia, and Paraguay in a new group ambinigra. The new group differs from dimidiata main by having three infralabials contacting anterior chin-shields (vs. four), five supralabials (vs. six), five or six infralabials (vs. seven), background color brown or red (vs. red), with five stripes or none (vs. two), venter immaculate white (vs. blotched or immaculate), and very small size (vs. medium to large). The new group comprises the species: A. ambinigra, A. breviceps, A. christineae, A. intermedia, A. roncadori, and A. vittata; it occurs on central-western Brazil to Bolivia and Paraguay, Cerrado biome

COLOR VARIATION IN APOSTOLEPIS ASSIMILIS (SERPENTES: COLUBRIDAE: DIPSADINAE: ELAPOMORPHINI)

Apostolepis assimilis, a member the assimilis group, inhabits the Cerrado biome in Brazil. It is the most frequent species of Elapomorphini in the region. The examination of a large sample allowed us to observe color variation in the species. Most differences were found in the head, neck, nucho-cervical collars, and supralabial blotch. The shape of the latter varies a lot, from long to short, polygonal to rounded, but mostly in the aspect of the triangular supralabial blotch. Invariable color characters are the blackish lower side of the head, the dimension of the background color, and the tail, which has a fully black blotch and a spine at the tip that is used for defense. Some rare abnormalities were found

    Long-Lasting Effects of Undernutrition

Undernutrition is one of the most important public health problems, affecting more than 900 million individuals around the World. It is responsible for the highest mortality rate in children and has long-lasting physiologic effects, including an increased susceptibility to fat accumulation mostly in the central region of the body, lower fat oxidation, lower resting and postprandial energy expenditure, insulin resistance in adulthood, hypertension, dyslipidaemia and a reduced capacity for manual work, among other impairments. Marked changes in the function of the autonomic nervous system have been described in undernourished experimental animals. Some of these effects seem to be epigenetic, passing on to the next generation. Undernutrition in children has been linked to poor mental development and school achievement as well as behavioural abnormalities. However, there is still a debate in the literature regarding whether some of these effects are permanent or reversible. Stunted children who had experienced catch-up growth had verbal vocabulary and quantitative test scores that did not differ from children who were not stunted. Children treated before 6 years of age in day-hospitals and who recovered in weight and height have normal body compositions, bone mineral densities and insulin production and sensitivity

Communication in health practices: integrative literature review

    Get PDF
Objectivethis study aims to describe the main thematic axes explored in the communication field in health practices in the scenarios of the Unified Health System (SUS). Methodintegrative literature review conducted by means of search for articles in the databases Latin American Literature on Health Sciences (LILACS), International Literature on Health Sciences (MedLine), and Science Direct, using the descriptors: health communication or communication. A crossing of the descriptors communication and health education was provided. Resultfour themes were constructed: 1) communication to establish relationships between health professionals and users; 2) (in)communication: barriers to the communicative act, 3) communication and health professional education; and 4) communicative health models: search for the dialogic model. Conclusionby understanding dialogic communication, which must be observed in communication, the new requirements posed by the legalization of SUS have shown weaknesses of the single-line and vertical communication model and the need to provide health professionals, since the undergraduate course, with knowledge that enable dialogic communication practices. The challenge of reflective and participatory experiences in the various health care settings still remains, in order to promote a sharing of knowledge that leads to understanding between the interlocutors involved in the communicative act.
