Peeping into the SU(2) Gauge Vacuum
We study thermalised configurations of SU(2) gauge fields by cooling. An
analysis of the effect of cooling is presented and global and statistical
information is extracted.Comment: 3 pages, uuencoded compressed postscript file, contribution to LAT 9
Multiplicative local linear hazard estimation and best one-sided cross-validation
This paper develops detailed mathematical statistical theory of a new class of cross-validation techniques of local linear kernel hazards and their multiplicative bias corrections. The new class of cross-validation combines principles of local information and recent advances in indirect cross-validation. A few applications of cross-validating multiplicative kernel hazard estimation do exist in the literature. However, detailed mathematical statistical theory and small sample performance are introduced via this paper and further upgraded to our new class of best one-sided cross-validation. Best one-sided cross-validation turns out to have excellent performance in its practical illustrations, in its small sample performance and in its mathematical statistical theoretical performance
Stability Conditions and the Single Mode Approximation in FQHE
A thermodynamic stability criterion for the spontaneous breaking of the
translation invariance of many particle systems is derived. It simply requires
the positive character of the wavevector dependent dielectric function as
generalising the same condition for macroscopic dielectric constants. Its
application to the Single Mode Approximation (SMA) for the description of the
collective modes of the filling factor 1/m Laughlin states is considered. The
results indicate that the stability condition is violated by the SMA for all
the relevant states m=3,5,7,9 in a wavevector neighborhood of the magneto-roton
minima. These conclusions are in qualitative agreement with similar results
obtained from the solution of the Bethe-Salpeter equation at 1/3 filling factor
for both composite fermions and phenomenologically described electrons in the
Laughlin state.Comment: 14 pages, two figures, the spelling and acknowledgments were

Mental health and family functioning among elderly people from Melchor Ocampo, Estado de MĂ©xico
Evaluation of the impact of various agricultural practices on nitrate leaching under the root zone of potato and sugar beet using the STICS soil–crop model
The quaternary aquifer of Vitoria-Gasteiz (Basque Country, Northern Spain) is characterised by a shallow water table mainly fed by drainage water, and thus constitutes a vulnerable zone in regards to nitrate pollution. Field studies were performed with a potato crop in 1993 and a sugar beet crop in 2002 to evaluate their impact on nitrate leaching. The overall predictive quality of the STICS soil–crop model was first evaluated using field data and then the model was used to analyze dynamically the impacts of different crop management practices on nitrate leaching. The model was evaluated (i) on soil nitrate concentrations at different depths and (ii) on crop yields. The simulated values proved to be in satisfactory agreement with measured values. Nitrate leaching was more pronounced with the potato crop thanwith the sugar beet experiment due to i) greater precipitation, ii) lower N uptake of the potato crop due to shallow root depth, and iii) a shorter period of growth. The potato experiment showed that excessive irrigation could significantly increase nitrate leaching by increasing both drainage and nitrate concentrations. The different levels of N-fertilization examined in the sugar beet study had no notable effects on nitrate leaching due to its high N uptake capacity. Complementary virtual experiments were carried out using the STICS model. Our study confirmed that in vulnerable zones agricultural practices must be adjusted, that is to say: 1) N-fertilizer should not be applied in autumn before winter crops; 2) crops with low N uptake capacity (e.g. potatoes) should be avoided or should be preceded and followed by nitrogen catch crops or cover crops; 3) the nitrate concentration of irrigation water should be taken into account in calculation of the N-fertilization rate, and 4) Nfertilization must be precisely adjusted in particular for potato crops
Dynamics of a self--gravitating magnetized source
We consider a magnetized degenerate gas of fermions as the matter source of a
homogeneous but anisotropic Bianchi I spacetime with a Kasner--like metric. We
examine the dynamics of this system by means of a qualitative and numerical
study of Einstein-Maxwell field equations which reduce to a non--linear
autonomous system. For all initial conditions and combinations of free
parameters the gas evolves from an initial anisotropic singularity into an
asymptotic state that is completely determined by a stable attractor. Depending
on the initial conditions the anisotropic singularity is of the ``cigar'' or
``plate'' types.Comment: 7 pages, 1 figur
Osteogenesis Imperfecta with Celiac Disease and Type II Diabetes Mellitus Associated: Improvement with a Gluten-Free Diet
Osteogenesis imperfecta (OI) is a genetic disease, with a connective tissue alteration, consisting in the presence of multiple spontaneous fractures or after minimal traumatism. Its association with other metabolic processes is rarely described.
We present the clinical case of a female adult patient of 43 years. From her infancy, she has had multiple fractures, needing several surgical interventions, and she was diagnosed of OI type 2 at adolescence age. Due mainly to difficulties in walking remaining in wheel-chair in the last three years, she was overweight with morbid obesity (BMI = 45.4) and had a type-II DM associated. She suffered from recurrent abdominal pain and chronic diarrhea and was diagnosed of celiac disease (CD) with increased intraepithelial duodenal infiltration, being classified as lymphocytic enteritis, Marsh I type. She was put on a gluten-free diet (GFD), having lost 6 kg of weight after 6 months, with a good control of DM-II and presenting a significant clinical improvement. It is rewarding to search the presence of two coincidental metabolic diseases associated to OI, specially CD, because of the dramatic clinical benefit in the general found after putting on a GFD
