articulo de investigacionThe surface tension of some binary and ternary mixtures was calculated by means of molecular dynamics simulations in a canonical set. The analyzed mixtures were oxygen-argon, nitrogen-argon and oxygen-nitrogenargon. The force field for argon was recalculated in order to reproduce the experimental surface tension. The corresponding force fields for O2 and N2 were taken from a previous work [Mol. Simul. 45 (2019) 958-966], where it was shown that such force fields reproduce the experimental surface tension curves, as pure fluids. The nitrogen-argon surface tension was calculated for several mole fractions of argon. The obtained curve was compared with those experimental data and a good agreement was found. The standard Lorentz-Berthelot combining rules were employed. For the oxygen-argon mixture it was necessary to modify the cross term of the combining rules in order to reproduce theoretical and experimental data. The surface tension of the ternary mixture was also estimated varying the mole fraction of argon at a certain concentration of oxygen and nitrogen, previously adjusted. Several temperatures were used in order to show a tendency mostly at relatively low temperatures. After comparing the available experimental data, which are scarce, a good agreement was observed

Comparison of Interactions Between Control and Mutant Macrophages

This paper presents a preliminary study on macrophages migration in Drosophila embryos, comparing two types of cells. The study is carried out by a framework called macrosight which analyses the movement and interaction of migrating macrophages. The framework incorporates a segmentation and tracking algorithm into analysing motion characteristics of cells after contact. In this particular study, the interactions between cells is characterised in the case of control embryos and Shot3 mutants, where the cells have been altered to suppress a specific protein, looking to understand what drives the movement. Statistical significance between control and mutant cells was found when comparing the direction of motion after contact in specific conditions. Such discoveries provide insights for future developments in combining biological experiments to computational analysis

Application of reasonable doubt in the legal system colombian: an analysis compared with the United States

El presente estudio tiene como objetivo analizar la figura de la duda razonable en el ordenamiento jurídico nacional. Esta figura procesal se instauró en Colombia en el año 2004 y su aplicación ha presentado dificultades para asegurar un análisis objetivo del acervo probatorio realizado por la administración de justicia. Cabe resaltar que la implementación de esta figura se basó en la tradición jurídica anglosajona y, por ende, el estudio consideró pertinente analizar este sistema de justicia para comparar la figura y establecer mecanismos de mejora al interior de la legislación nacional. En virtud de lo anterior, el presente estudio aplicó una metodología cualitativa con enfoque descriptivo que permitió analizar la figura de la duda razonable en Colombia y en Estados Unidos, logrando comprender sus principales características y dificultades. Es así, que el estudio, encontró que esta figura procesal nace como un mecanismo para proteger la presunción de inocencia del implicado penal y, por ende, el garantismo penal. Si bien es cierto, esta figura nace como una alternativa para proteger al implicado penal, su aplicación no ha sido exenta de controversias tanto en Estados Unidos como en Colombia, pero el desarrollo jurisprudencial estadounidense ha permitido establecer alternativas para optimizar su aplicación y defender los derechos sustanciales de los procesados.The following study is aimed to analyze the reasonable doubt in the national law system. This procedural figure was established in the country in 2004 and its application has had some hurdles since this figure must ensure the objectivity in the burden of proof made by the justice administration. It should be highlighted, that the implementation of this procedural figure was based in the Common Law, and for that reason, it was important to analyze this justice system to compare and stablish some mechanisms to improve this figure inside the country. Taking into account the previous statement, the research applied a qualitative research with a descriptive approach which allowed to argue about the importance and hurdles of this procedural figure in the country and its relationships with the features in United States of America. In that way, the study found out that the reasonable doubt is a tool to reinforce the penal guarantee theories and the presumption of innocence. Although, this figure was thought as way to reinforce the rights of prosecutes, its applications haven’t been free of disputes both in Colombia and USA, nevertheless, the development of America jurisprudential bibliography has reinforced its usage, and it has introduced some strategies to optimize this procedural figureMaestrí

La representación de lo nacional en el cine de Emilio “Indio” Fernández

Doctorado en Historiografía.En este trabajo se buscó el análisis fino de los valores, costumbres y conductas del mexicano, a través de las películas del “Indio” Fernández, en la década de los cuarenta; así como su importancia en la conformación de un imaginario nacional. De esta manera se buscó contribuir a las discusiones en torno a “lo mexicano” y “lo nacional”, pues por medio de este cine, se mostraron valores que contribuyen a su tipificación. Fue así que se intentó vincular los elementos de la forma y el contenido para comprender cómo se generó un efecto en el público y en la elaboración de una cultura nacionalista; sin embargo, reconozco mis limitantes para el análisis del lenguaje cinematográfico, cuyos términos técnicos, dada mi formación, fueron difíciles de incorporar. Sólo espero que este estudio contribuya a la reflexión sobre “lo nacional” y el cine, aunque sé que todavía falta un amplio camino por recorrer y muchas otras posibilidades para analizar al cine, desde la historiografía.Consejo Nacional de Ciencia y Tecnología (México)

N-Cadherin and Integrin Blockade Inhibit Arteriolar Myogenic Reactivity but not Pressure-Induced Increases in Intracellular Ca2+

The vascular myogenic response is characterized by arterial constriction in response to an increase in intraluminal pressure and dilatation to a decrease in pressure. This mechanism is important for the regulation of blood flow, capillary pressure, and arterial pressure. The identity of the mechanosensory mechanism(s) for this response is incompletely understood but has been shown to include the integrins as cell–extracellular matrix receptors. The possibility that a cell–cell adhesion receptor is involved has not been studied. Thus, we tested the hypothesis that N-cadherin, a cell–cell adhesion molecule in vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs), was important for myogenic responsiveness. The purpose of this study was to investigate: (1) whether cadherin inhibition blocks myogenic responses to increases in intraluminal pressure and (2) the effect of the cadherin or integrin blockade on pressure-induced changes in [Ca2+]i. Cadherin blockade was tested in isolated rat cremaster arterioles on myogenic responses to acute pressure steps from 60 to 100 mmHg and changes in VSMC Ca2+ were measured using fura-2. In the presence of a synthetic cadherin inhibitory peptide or a function-blocking antibody, myogenic responses were inhibited. In contrast, during N-cadherin blockade, pressure-induced changes in [Ca2+]i were not altered. Similarly, vessels treated with function-blocking β1- or β3-integrin antibodies maintained pressure-induced [Ca2+]i responses despite inhibition of myogenic constriction. Collectively, these data suggest that both cadherins and integrins play a fundamental role in mediating myogenic constriction but argue against their direct involvement in mediating pressure-induced [Ca2+]i increases
