Next-to-eikonal corrections in the CGC: gluon production and spin asymmetries in pA collisions

    Get PDF
We present a new method to systematically include corrections to the eikonal approximation in the background field formalism. Specifically, we calculate the subleading, power-suppressed corrections due to the finite width of the target or the finite energy of the projectile. Such power-suppressed corrections involve Wilson lines decorated by gradients of the background field - thus related to the density - of the target. The method is of generic applicability. As a first example, we study single inclusive gluon production in pA collisions, and various related spin asymmetries, beyond the eikonal accuracy.Comment: 34 pages, new reference added, some typos correcte

Medium-induced soft gluon radiation in DIS

We study color coherence effects on the medium-induced soft gluon radiation off an asymptotic quark hit by a virtual photon traversing a hot and dense QCD medium. The transverse momentum spectrum of the emitted gluon is computed at 1st order in the opacity expansion. The interference effects between the initial and final state radiation modify the soft gluon spectrum when a finite angle between the incoming and outgoing quarks is considered, presenting a soft divergence. We comment on possible implications on observables in eA collisions.Comment: 4 pages, 2 figure, Proceedings of DIS 2012, Bonn, German

Abstract∙ There is little information on the body condition of the Upland Sandpiper (Bartramia longicauda) during migration. We measured biometric traits and body condition parameters of B. longicauda in central Mexico in 2016 and 2017. Mean morphometric values were 170.4 ± 4.3 mm (wing length), 28.9 ± 1.7 mm (bill length), 61.5 ± 2.2 mm (head length), and 55.3 ± 2.6 mm (tarsus length). Mean body condition parameters were 169.7 ± 24.1 g (body weight), and 4.6 ± 1.8 (fat score). Body condition values were higher during 2017 than 2016 (P < 0.05) but similar between sexes and sites. Fluctuating asymmetry (FA) was low compared to other studies, but was present in rectrices, tarsus, and wings. We found a negative correlation between wing FA and fat score, and a positive correlation between body weight and fat score, suggesting that birds with higher fat scores were in better condition during molt, leading to lower asymmetry. Our Data showed a 1:1.6 male:female ratio, similar across years and sites. Contrary to other studies, we found no significant sexual size dimorphism. Birds in our sample had higher body weight, tarsus, and wing length but were similar in head length to birds wintering in South America, but smaller than birds from Minnesota. We recommend carrying out further studies on stop-over sites to contribute to a better understanding of patterns on the functional ecology of the species.

In this chapter, we present a discussion about the practical application of the fractal properties of the medium in the mathematical model through the use of fractional partial derivatives. We present one of the known models for the flow in saturated media and its generalization in fractional order derivatives. In the middle section, we present one of the main arguments that motivate the use of fractional derivatives in the porous media models, this is the Professor Nigmatullin’s work. The final part describes the process for obtaining the coupled system of three equations for the monophase flow with triple porosity and triple permeability, briefly mentioning the method used for the first solutions of the system

Cholinergic signaling plasticity maintains viscerosensory responses during Aspiculuris tetraptera infection in mice small intestine

"Intestinal parasites alter gastrointestinal (GI) functions like the cholinergic function. Aspiculuris tetraptera is a pinworm frequently observed in laboratory facilities, which infests the mice cecum and proximal colon. However, little is known about the impact of this infection on the GI sensitivity. Here, we investigated possible changes in spontaneous mesenteric nerve activity and on the mechanosensitivity function of worm-free regions of naturally infected mice with A. tetraptera. Infection increased the basal firing of mesenteric afferent nerves in jejunum. Our findings indicate that nicotinic but not muscarinic receptors, similarly affect spontaneous nerve firing in control and infected animals; these axons are mainly vagal. No difference between groups was observed on spontaneous activity after nicotinic receptor inhibition. However, and contrary to the control group, during infection, the muscarinic signaling was shown to be elevated during mechanosensory experiments. In conclusion, we showed for the first time that alterations induced by infection of the basal afferent activity were independent of the cholinergic function but changes in mechanosensitivity were mediated by muscarinic, but not nicotinic, receptors and specifically by high threshold nerve fibers (activated above 20 mm Hg), known to play a role in nociception. These plastic changes within the muscarinic signaling would function as a compensatory mechanism to maintain a full mechanosensory response and the excitability of nociceptors during infection. These changes indicate that pinworm colonic infection can target other tissues away from the colon.

This work was supported by grants from Instituto de Salud Carlos III, Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación: PI18/00996 and RETICS RD016/0009/0025 (REDINREN), co-funded by FEDER funds, and from Consejeria de Educación, Junta de Castilla y León: IES160P20 and Universidad de Salamanca (Programas Propios de la Agencia de Gestión de la Investigación).[EN]Renal tubulo-interstitial fibrosis is characterized by the excessive accumulation of extracellular matrix (ECM) in the tubular interstitium during chronic kidney disease. The main source of ECM proteins are emerging and proliferating myofibroblasts. The sources of myofibroblasts in the renal tubular interstitium have been studied during decades, in which the epithelial contribution of the myofibroblast population through the epithelial-to-mesenchymal (EMT) process was assumed to be the major mechanism. However, it is now accepted that the EMT contribution is very limited and other mechanisms such as the proliferation of local resident fibroblasts or the transdifferentiation of endothelial cells seem to be more relevant. Activin receptor-like kinase 1 (ALK1) is a type I receptor which belongs to the transforming growth factor beta (TGF-β) superfamily, with a key role in tissue fibrosis and production of ECM by myofibroblast. Predominantly expressed in endothelial cells, ALK1 also plays an important role in angiogenesis and vessel maturation, but the relation of these processes with kidney fibrosis is not fully understood. We show that after 3 days of unilateral ureteral obstruction (UUO), ALK1 heterozygous mice (Alk1 +/- ) display lower levels of kidney fibrosis associated to a lower number of myofibroblasts. Moreover, Alk1 +/- mice have a lower degree of vascular rarefaction, showing improved peritubular microvasculature after UUO. All these data suggest an important role of ALK1 in regulating vascular rarefaction and emergence of myofibroblasts

[EN] Out-of-hospital cardiorespiratory arrest is one of the leading causes of death in the Western world. Early assistance with quality Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and the use of a defibrillator may increase the percentage of survival after this process. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of CPR training and the management of an Automatic External Defibrillator (AED). A descriptive, cross-sectional, observational study was carried out among students in the first year of a Nursing and Physiotherapy degree of the University of León. To achieve this goal, a theoretical-practical educational intervention of four hours’ duration which included training on CPR, AED and Basic Life Support (BLS) was carried out. A total of 112 students were included. The results showed an increase in theoretical knowledge on BLS as well as on CPR and AED, and practical skills in CPR and AED management. A theoretical exposition of fifteen minutes and the practical training of CPR wasenough for the students to acquire the necessary theoretical knowledge, although the participants failed to reach quality criteria in CPR. Only 35.6% of students reached the right depth in compressions. Also, ventilation was not performed properly. Based on the results, we cannot determine that the percentage of overall quality of CPR was appropriate, since 57.6% was obtained in this respect and experts establish a value higher than 70% for quality CPR. There was a clear relationship between sex, weight, height and body max index (BMI), and quality CPR performance, being determinant variables to achieve quality parameters. Currently, Basic Life Support training in most universities is based on training methods similar to those used in the action described. The results obtained suggest implementing other training methods that favour the acquisition of quality CPR skills.S
