    A methodology to measure sight-hidden dips'parameters.

Highway design standards specify several requirements on available sight distance. Usually, compliance with these standards is ensured during the design phase of a new road. This is made through geometric calculations that take into account the terrain and the road. In this paper, a procedure for measuring distances in an existing road from georeferenced photographs is proposed. In addition, an estimation of the error committed when using this procedure is made. Distances measured using this procedure arecompared with the ones measured using a Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS). Distances error is within the error estimation and is low enough for using it in traffic safety studies. In addition, the procedure is applied to measure several parameters of a sight-hidden dip. This procedure does not need a terrain model to measure these parameters. This is an advantage compared with other existing procedures for estimating the parameters of sight-hidden dips

NIS/HFIP‐Mediated Synthesis of Indene‐Based β‐Iodoalkenyl Sulfides from Propargylic Sulfides

A tandem 1,3-sulfur migration followed by iodocyclization reaction of propargylic sulfides in the presence of NIS in HFIP has been developed to synthesize indene-based β-iodoalkenyl sulfides. The choice of the reaction media is crucial to promote the reaction. The proposed mechanism involving the initial NIS activation by HFIP and favoring the sulfur migration of the starting propargylic thioether via cationic intermediates is experimentally supported. In addition, the suitability of selected indene-based β-iodoalkenyl sulfides as building blocks for subsequent C C bond-forming reactions has been demonstrated. We gratefully acknowledge MICINN (PID2020-115789GBC21); and “NextGenerationEU/PRTR” (PDC2021-120825- C21), and Junta de Castilla y León and FEDER (BU049P20) for financial support. Synthesis and Electrocatalytic Properties of H2SO4-Induced (100) Pt Nanoparticles Prepared in Water-in-Oil Microemulsion

    Get PDF
The increasing number of applications for shape-controlled metal nanoparticles (NPs) has led to the need for easy, cheap, and scalable methodologies. We report the synthesis of (100) preferentially oriented Pt NPs, with a particle size of 9 nm, by using a water-in-oil microemulsion method. The specific surface structure of the NPs is induced by the presence of H2SO4 in the water phase of the microemulsion. Interestingly, the results reported herein show how increasing amounts of H2SO4 lead to the formation of Pt NPs containing a larger amount of (100) sites on their surface. This preferential surface orientation is confirmed electrochemically by using the so-called hydrogen adsorption/desorption process. In addition, transmission electron microscopy measurements confirm the presence of cubic-like Pt NPs. Finally, the electrocatalytic properties of the Pt NPs are evaluated towards ammonia and CO electro-oxidations, which are (100) structure-sensitive reactions. This work has been financially supported by the MCINN-FEDER (Spain) (project CTQ 2010-16271), Generalitat Valenciana (project PROMETEO/2009/045) and in part by NASA-URC Grant No. NNX10AQ17A and NSF-NSEC Center for Hierarchical Manufactur-ing Grant No. CHM-CMMI-0531171. The cyclization of o-(alkynyl)-3-(methylbut-2-enyl)benzenes, 1,6-enynes having a condensed aromatic ring at C3–C4 positions, has been studied under the catalysis of cationic gold(I) complexes. The selective 6-endo-dig mode of cyclization observed for the 7-substituted substrates in the presence of water or methanol giving rise to hydroxy(methoxy)-functionalized dihydronaphthalene derivatives is highly remarkable in the context of the observed reaction pathways for the cycloisomerizations of 1,6-enynes bearing a trisubstituted olefinMinisterio de Ciencia e Innovación (MICINN) and FEDER (CTQ2010-15358

From Propargylic Alcohols to Substituted Thiochromenes: gem- Disubstituent Effect in Intramolecular Alkyne Iodo/hydroarylation

    Get PDF
This work describes the 6-endo-dig cyclization of Saryl propargyl sulfides to afford 2H-thiochromenes. The substitution at the propargylic position plays a crucial role in allowing intramolecular silver-catalyzed alkyne hydroarylation and Niodosuccinimide-promoted iodoarylation. Additionally, a PTSAcatalyzed thiolation reaction of propargylic alcohols was developed to synthesize the required tertiary S-aryl propargyl ethers. The applicability of merging these two methods is demonstrated by synthesizing the retinoic acid receptor antagonist AGN194310.Junta de Castilla y León and FEDER (BU291P18 and BU049P20) and Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación and FEDER (CTQ2016-75023-C2-1-P) for financial support. Get PDF
We briefly review the context of the SKA in the panorama of modern Cosmology. The SKA will undoubtedly be one of the most powerful tools for Cosmology during the first half of the XXIst century. Many of the fundamental questions of modern Cosmology, such as the nature of the dark energy and dark matter that dominate the dynamics of the Universe, will be answered by SKA-driven science. Moreover, SKA will shed light on many aspects of large-scale structure growth and galaxy formation as well as fundamental Physics regarding the early Universe, inflation and tests of General Relativity. The authors acknowledge partial support from the Spanish MINECO through projects AYA2013- 48623-C2-2, AYA2007-68058-C03-01, AYA2010-21766-C03-02, AYA2012-30789 and the Consolider-Ingenio projects CSD2010-00064 (EPI: Exploring the Physics of Inflation) and CSD2009-00064 (MultiDark), and from the Generalitat Valenciana through grants PROMETEOII/2014/060 and PROMETEOII/2014/084. Endoplasmic Reticulum Protein TXNDC5 Interacts with PRDX6 and HSPA9 to Regulate Glutathione Metabolism and Lipid Peroxidation in the Hepatic AML12 Cell Line

    Get PDF
Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease or steatosis is an accumulation of fat in the liver. Increased amounts of non-esterified fatty acids, calcium deficiency, or insulin resistance may disturb endoplasmic reticulum (ER) homeostasis, which leads to the abnormal accumulation of misfolded proteins, activating the unfolded protein response. The ER is the primary location site for chaperones like thioredoxin domain-containing 5 (TXNDC5). Glutathione participates in cellular oxidative stress, and its interaction with TXNDC5 in the ER may decrease the disulfide bonds of this protein. In addition, glutathione is utilized by glutathione peroxidases to inactivate oxidized lipids. To characterize proteins interacting with TXNDC5, immunoprecipitation and liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry were used. Lipid peroxidation, reduced glutathione, inducible phospholipase A2 (iPLA2) and hepatic transcriptome were assessed in the AML12 and TXNDC5-deficient AML12 cell lines. The results showed that HSPA9 and PRDX6 interact with TXNDC5 in AML12 cells. In addition, TXNDC5 deficiency reduced the protein levels of PRDX6 and HSPA9 in AML12. Moreover, lipid peroxidation, glutathione and iPLA2 activities were significantly decreased in TXNDC5-deficient cells, and to find the cause of the PRDX6 protein reduction, proteasome suppression revealed no considerable effect on it. Finally, hepatic transcripts connected to PRDX6 and HSPA9 indicated an increase in the Dnaja3, Mfn2 and Prdx5 and a decrease in Npm1, Oplah, Gstp3, Gstm6, Gstt1, Serpina1a, Serpina1b, Serpina3m, Hsp90aa1 and Rps14 mRNA levels in AML12 KO cells. In conclusion, the lipid peroxidation system and glutathione mechanism in AML12 cells may be disrupted by the absence of TXNDC5, a novel protein–protein interacting partner of PRDX6 and HSPA9

An active tectonic field for CO2 storage management: the Hontomín onshore case study (Spain)

One of the concerns of underground CO2 onshore storage is the triggering of induced seismicity and fault reactivation by the pore pressure increasing. Hence, a comprehensive analysis of the tectonic parameters involved in the storage rock formation is mandatory for safety management operations. Unquestionably, active faults and seal faults depicting the storage bulk are relevant parameters to be considered. However, there is a lack of analysis of the active tectonic strain field affecting these faults during the CO2 storage monitoring. The advantage of reconstructing the tectonic field is the possibility to determine the strain trajectories and describing the fault patterns affecting the reservoir rock. In this work, we adapt a methodology of systematic geostructural analysis to underground CO2 storage, based on the calculation of the strain field from kinematics indicators on the fault planes (ey and ex for the maximum and minimum horizontal shortening, respectively). This methodology is based on a statistical analysis of individual strain tensor solutions obtained from fresh outcrops from the Triassic to the Miocene. Consequently, we have collected 447 fault data in 32 field stations located within a 20 km radius. The understanding of the fault sets’ role for underground fluid circulation can also be established, helping further analysis of CO2 leakage and seepage. We have applied this methodology to Hontomín onshore CO2 storage facilities (central Spain). The geology of the area and the number of high-quality outcrops made this site a good candidate for studying the strain field from kinematics fault analysis. The results indicate a strike-slip tectonic regime with maximum horizontal shortening with a 160 and 50◦ E trend for the local regime, which activates NE–SW strike-slip faults. A regional extensional tectonic field was also recognized with a N–S trend, which activates N–S extensional faults, and NNE–SSW and NNW– SSE strike-slip faults, measured in the Cretaceous limestone on top of the Hontomín facilities. Monitoring these faults within the reservoir is suggested in addition to the possibility of obtaining a focal mechanism solutions for microearthquakes (M < 3)This work has been partially supported by the European Project ENOS: ENabling Onshore CO2 Storage in Europe, H2020 Project ID: 653718 and the Spanish project 3GEO, CGL2017-83931-C3-2-P, MICIU-FEDE
