Board Games to Foster Colombian Cultural Awareness Inside the EFL Classroom ABSTRACT Along the English as a foreign language learning process inside a public school in Colombia, students are not taking into account their own culture and context when learning. That is why a way in which learners are able to be aware of their own culture through the EFL learning process is necessary. Therefore, the adaptation of a series of board games in order to make them suitable to teach English and foster Colombian cultural aspects inside the EFL classroom was required to deal with the main issue. In this study, participants were experimenting their own culture along the English class through the use of board games. Each board game was adapted to foster one specific cultural aspect. The participants were conducted through an introduction at the beginning of each session and, such introduction was about the cultural aspect to work on, after that they had the opportunity to interact and recognize their own culture by using the board game. They were recognizing the characteristics of their own culture and they were culturally aware along the development of the class, which was the main objective of the research project

Revisiting the Dissimilarity Representation in the Context of Regression

    Get PDF
In machine learning, a natural way to represent an instance is by using a feature vector. However, several studies have shown that this representation may not accurately characterize an object. For classification problems, the dissimilarity paradigm has been proposed as an alternative to the standard feature-based approach. Encoding each object by pairwise dissimilarities has been demonstrated to improve the data quality because it mitigates some complexities such as class overlap, small disjuncts, and low-sample size. However, its suitability and performance when applied to regression problems have not been fully explored. This study redefines the dissimilarity representation for regression. To this end, we have carried out an extensive experimental evaluation on 34 datasets using two linear regression models. The results show that the dissimilarity approach decreases the error rates of both the traditional linear regression and the linear model with elastic net regularization, and it also reduces the complexity of most regression datasets

This research addresses the general foundations of the importance and social need for the development of professional ways of action related to the Security and Defense of the Cuban nation, in the initial training process of the Preschool Education professional. This training responds to that of an educator who provides comprehensive educational care to children from 0-6 years of age, for which the comprehensive preparation of the professionals of this career is required, committed to the future progress of the country and to the solution, through their personal and professional initiatives, of the problems that arise in their sphere of action. Its objective is the elaboration of systematic actions, contextualized to the object of the profession for the integration of knowledge of the Discipline Preparation for Defense with the rest of the career that allow the development of professional performance ways in initial training process of the graduate in Preschool Education. All this through the implementation of the Preparation for Defense strategy and the development of scientific-methodological work in terms of strengthening these ways of action. The results achieved in the students of the Bachelor's Degree in Preschool Education of the University of Las Tunas, where the research was applied, were satisfactory, which is reflected in their ways of professional performance, ascertained in a strong scientific-technical preparation and solid development of their ethical, professional and moral values tinged by a high social commitment to the defense of the country.

    Get PDF

RESTful Web Service USAge for Online Exit-survey at Syiah Kuala University as Data Verification Method

Many applications are developed and deployed in Syiah Kuala University main server. These applications and information system are built as tools to help the University\u27 daily activities. Most of these applications have its own database. As a result, data is inconsistent, and the worst is redundant data cannot be avoided. The idea behind of this research is to build one centralized data that can be used as baseline to other applications. Since the main data of Syiah Kuala University are located behind the proxy which is no internet direct access allowed to the data. The proposed method to answer this problem is touse web service as a gateway for data transfer. This technique keeps the database from direct external access but the data itself can be seen without knowing where the real data is. This method has been used for Online Exit-Survey to proof that the system can verify the students\u27 data. Some student cannot be identified because their data were empty, the other because the data in centralized database server were only prepared for undergraduate students, so that the post graduate and professional students cannot be verified. For undergraduate students this online exit-survey works fine without error on verification phas

Three-dimensional Containment Accident Analysis using different approaches in Almaraz NPP

    Get PDF
Containment Design Basis Accident analysis are usually performed using lumped-parameters models as this kind of models do not require high computational resources. Moreover, they offer overall good results of average pressure and temperature evolution. However, in order to perform a detailed local analysis, a thermal-hydraulic behavior study of every containment room may be necessary. To achieve this goal, a more detailed containment 3D model is imperative for capturing the local phenomena which occurs during a mass and energy release accident. During the last years in the collaborative project between the UPM and CNAT, several Almaraz NPP containment 3D models have been developed. The most precise one, called Detailed Integral Model, is able to obtain results with a very high resolution. However, this approach requires also high computational resources. For this reason two new models, called Multi-Zone Models, were developed with a coarser nodalization and therefore a lower computational requirement is needed. In this paper, the new modeling approach is described. A LBLOCA has been simulated in the Multi-Zone Model and it has been compared with the results obtained from the Detailed Integral Model. After analyzing the results, it can be concluded that the thermal-hydraulic evolutions are similar although the local variables differ in some cases. Taking into account the differences between models, a criteria in the use of the different approaches described has been stated depending on the analysis objective
