The dialogical literary gatherings are a methodological strategy that can enrich teacher training as they promote deep reading, thinking and communication among students. This paper aims to explore the perceptions the use of the dialogical literary gatherings as a strategy that favors communication and reflection in Higher Education students. The results show high benefits about the dialogical literary gatherings after having experienced its development in the university context, that are useful to develop communicative skills in educational contexts as teachers and education professionals and, specially, to teacher education in Early Childhood Education. After completing this experience, it is possible to conclude that the students’ communicative competence has improved, and other abilities linked to the thinking process, such as reflection and metacognition, have been fostered, improving the practical skills of the teacher in training and, in addition, allowing him/her to overcome the training scenario in which he/she finds him/herself to prepare his/her work as a communicator and researcher- reflexive teacher of his/her educational practice. This publication has been made with the financial support of the Generalitat in the IV Conference of the UA to finance research activities focused on human development and that promote the Sustainable Development Goals in countries with development difficulties, of interest to the Valencian Cooperation

Energy and Macronutrients Intake in Indoor Sport Team Athletes: Systematic Review

    Get PDF
Indoor team sports are characterized by matches that are shorter in duration and with frequent substitution (high-intensity intermittent). The main goal of teams is to best cover athletes’ physiological demands, while meeting their dietary intake needs is critical. The aim of this study is to conduct a systematic review of the dietary intake of indoor team sports athletes and to analyze whether they comply with nutritional recommendations. A search of PubMed-MEDLINE, Web of Science, and Scopus databases from 2008 to July 2022 was conducted and 2727 documents were identified. The studies focused on adult professional or semi-professional volleyball, basketball, handball, or futsal athletes. Two independent researchers screened and extracted the data, with 20 documents included after they met the inclusion criteria. Most of the athletes, both men and women, did not meet the official recommendations based on under-consumption (energy and carbohydrates) or over-consumption (fats). In relation to protein, 28.6% of studies met the recommendations, with 50% of those who did not meet it being due to under-consumption. Although there are references on athletes’ dietary intakes, there are no references considering sexes or types of sport. More adapted recommendations are needed in order to more precisely evaluate athletes’ intake to know if they meet their real nutritional requirements

The combined effect of family environment and parents' characteristics on the use of food to soothe children

Parental feeding practices, such as the use of food to soothe, can be shaped by various factors, including the family environment and parents' psychological characteristics and capacities. To our knowledge, the combined effect of these factors has not been studied. Furthermore, parental feeding practices have mainly been studied in women, resulting in a gender gap in the research. This study aims to investigate the combined effect of family environment and parental characteristics on the likelihood of using food to soothe children, taking the gender of both parents into account. This cross-sectional study included a sample of 846 parents (36.3% men) of 1-year-old children from different regions of Spain. Participants completed an online survey that included questionnaires to measure whether parents used food to soothe children, the family environment, parents' characteristics, and their psychological capacities. Binary logistic regression analyses were performed to identify associations between the variables. The final model showed that, within the family environment, higher levels of dyadic adjustment between couples (OR = 0.965; p = .026) were associated with a reduced likelihood of using food to soothe children, whereas the psychological characteristic of parental fatigue (OR = 1.053; p = .007) appeared to be associated with an increased likelihood. Also associated with an increased likelihood of this practice were higher parental sense of competence (OR = 1.028; p = .029) and the attention dimension of emotional intelligence (OR = 1.043; p = .007). Our study suggests that using food to soothe children may be influenced by factors at different levels, from the quality and adjustment of the couple's relationship to parental fatigue, self-competence, and emotional intelligence. For future research, it may be worthwhile contextualizing parental practices to gain a better understanding of children's behavior.Mar Lozano-Casanova would like to thank the Ministerio de Universidades for the FPU21/04232 grant

    Get PDF

Teachers must have didactic communicative competence to interact with students and facilitate their learning process. Students’ understanding of ideas as well as the interest and emotions they may feel from new learnings largely depend on the way teachers interact using their knowledge, competence and communication as well as their communicative skills. The objective of this study was to know and analyse pre-service teachers’ levels of communicative competence and identify what strategies and skills they developed during these didactic interactions. A qualitative research methodology was chosen to approach pre-service teachers’ reflections about the object of study. Semi-structured interviews were conducted leading to reflections on their training. The qualitative aquad program was used and enabled the analysis of participants’ narratives based on the designed code map. Results showed that despite the relevance of communication in the teaching-learning process, pre-service teachers mostly used verbal communication skills and techniques. Their didactic communicative competence continues to be insufficient when they start to teach. Interactions with students, however, constitute one of the key factors of quality in educational processes, therefore this study proposes ways to improve didactic communicative competence that can be integrated into initial teacher training curricula

A scanning system for small animal imaging using non-contact, hybrid broadband diffuse optical spectroscopy (ncDOS) and diffuse correlation spectroscopy (ncDCS) is presented. The ncDOS uses a two-dimensional spectrophotometer retrieving broadband (610-900 nm) spectral information from up to fifty-seven source-detector distances between 2 and 5 mm. The ncDCS data is simultaneously acquired from four source-detector pairs. The sample is scanned in two dimensions while tracking variations in height. The system has been validated with liquid phantoms, demonstrated in vivo on a human fingertip during an arm cuff occlusion and on a group of mice with xenoimplanted renal cell carcinoma. Didactic communication is a key element in the management of educational and pedagogical processes that take place in the classroom. This allows to organize effective and efficient learning environments in the classroom and promotes environments of communicative exchange with students that generate interest, thought and emotion for education. In the educational stages related to childhood, it is especially relevant to guide the construction of knowledge and the acquisition of skills and abilities. However, it is still subtly promoted in university spaces; and the attempts to train teachers in communicative competence are reduced, in general, to the practice of oral presentations, far removed from the school communicative reality. Multisensory theater pedagogy is another way of learning to communicate in the classroom. The main objective of this research is to analyze the development of learning situations based on theater pedagogy as a teaching strategy that improves didactic communication in teaching-learning processes from the narratives of teachers and teachers. The results indicate that it is a valuable pedagogical tool for the development of communication and pedagogical skills in teachers in general, and for those who are being trained in particular

NB emission at 672 nm is highly quenched inside S3, yet a remarkable emission enhancement is observed upon cap hydrolysis in the presence of beta-galactosidase and dye release. The efficacy of the probe to detect cellular senescence is tested in vitro in melanoma SK-Mel-103 and breast cancer 4T1 cells and in vivo in palbociclib-treated BALB/cByJ mice bearing breast cancer tumor.R.M. thanks financial support from the Spanish Government (RTI2018-100910-B-C41 and RTI2018-101599-B-C22 (MCUI/AEI/FEDER, UE)) and the Generalitat Valenciana (PROMETEO 2018/024). Pre-clinical longitudinal monitoring of hemodynamic response to anti-vascular chemotherapy by hybrid diffuse optics

    Get PDF
The longitudinal effect of an anti-vascular endothelial growth factor receptor 2 (VEGFR-2) antibody (DC 101) therapy on a xenografted renal cell carcinoma (RCC) mouse model was monitored using hybrid diffuse optics. Two groups of immunosuppressed male nude mice (seven treated, seven controls) were measured. Tumor microvascular blood flow, total hemoglobin concentration and blood oxygenation were investigated as potential biomarkers for the monitoring of the effect of therapy twice a week and were related to the final treatment outcome. These hemodynamic biomarkers have shown a clear differentiation between two groups by day four. Moreover, we have observed that pre-treatment values and early changes in hemodynamics are highly correlated with the therapeutic outcome demonstrating the potential of diffuse optics to predict the therapy response at an early time point.
