A simple spatiotemporal evolution model of a transmission power grid

In this paper, we present a model for the spatial and temporal evolution of a particularly large human-made network: the 400-kV French transmission power grid. This is based on 1) an attachment procedure that diminishes the connection probability between two nodes as the network grows and 2) a coupled cost function characterizing the available budget at every time step. Two differentiated and consecutive processes can be distinguished: a first global space-filling process and a secondary local meshing process that increases connectivity at a local level. Results show that even without power system engineering design constraints (i.e., population and energy demand), the evolution of a transmission network can be remarkably explained by means of a simple attachment procedure. Given a distribution of resources and a time span, the model can also be used to generate the probability distribution of cable lengths at every time step, thus facilitating network planning. Design, implementation & first run problems of a factory corporate network

En aquest projecte s'ha dut a terme el disseny de la infraestructura de comunicacions i de xarxa d'una fàbrica que comptarà amb zones de producció i d’oficines corporatives, s'han analitzat les subseqüents necessitats dels recursos de comunicacions dels diferents departaments per determinar els equipaments de xarxa necessaris, així com la topologia de la jerarquia d'interconnexions. Igualment, s'ha tingut en compte la infraestructura de connexions sense fils per donar cobertura als dispositius tant corporatius com de dispositius personals o treballadors externs. Un cop establerta la topologia de xarxa, s'ha realitzat l'assignació d'adreces IP, segmentant la xarxa en diferents VLANs segons una classificació de funcionalitats i necessitats de la mateixa (nombre de dispositius, servidor DHCP, nivells de seguretat…) Finalment, s'ha realitzat un estudi econòmic respecte al pressupost del qual es disponia per al projecte i el que finalment ha fet falta per cobrir tot el material, obres i hores d’enginyeria necessaris per a la realització d'aquest.In this project, the design of the communications and network infrastructure of a factory that will have production areas and corporate offices has been carried out, the subsequent needs of the communications resources of the different departments have been analyzed for determine the necessary network equipment, as well as the topology of the interconnection hierarchy. Similarly, the infrastructure of wireless connections has been taken into account to provide coverage for both corporate devices and personal devices or external workers. Once the network topology has been established, the assignment of IP addresses has been carried out, segmenting the network into different VLANs according to a classification of functionalities and its needs (number of devices, DHCP server, security levels...) Finally , an economic study has been carried out with respect to the budget that was available for the project and what was ultimately needed to cover all the material, works and hours of engineering necessary to carry it out

Mergers along the Global Supply Chain: Information Techonologies and Routine Tasks

This paper empirically analyses how the adoption of Information Technologies (IT) has changed the organization of global supply chains. We focus on international mergers, which are a growing and important component of foreign direct investment. We use data on North&-South mergers and acquisitions (M&As). We show that the effect of IT adoptionon the number of vertical M&As is decreasing with the routine intensity of the industry. Our interpretation is that the IT revolution enabled new monitoring mechanisms. Instal·lació i proves de mar d'un estabilitzador giroscòpic en una embarcació sirena 64

Aquest treball relata l'experiència personal de la instal·lació d'n estabilitzador giroscòpic de la marca seakeeper en una embarcació sirena 64. Està dividit en dues parts principals. la primera part és de caràcter teòric i proporciona informació sobre els diferents tipus d'estabilitzadors nàutics disponibles al mercat. A més, s'explora en detall l'empresa seakeeper, destacant la seva reputació i productes en l'àmbit dels estabilitzadors giroscòpics. També s'analitza l'embarcació sirena 64, abordant les seves característiques i disseny específics. la segona part del treball se centra en el procés concret de instal·lació del seakeeper en aquesta embarcació. Es descriuen les etapes necessàries per a la pre-instal·lació, incloent l'avaluació de l'espai disponible i la selecció del model adequat. S'expliquen els detalls de la instal·lació física, incloent els processos de muntatge i connexió del seakeeper. Finalment, es destaca la realització de les proves de mar per avaluar l'eficàcia i el rendiment de l'estabilitzador. a través daquest treball, es busca proporcionar una visió completa i detallada de tot el procés d'instal·lació d`un estabilitzador giroscòpic seakeeper en una embarcació sirena 64. Amb això, s'espera contribuir al coneixement general sobre aquesta tecnologia i proporcionar orientació per a futures instal·lacions similars
