A model for vortex formation in magnetic nanodots
We use Monte Carlo simulation to study the vortex nucleation on magnetic
nanodots at low temperature. In our simulations, we have considered a simple
microscopic two-dimensional anisotropic Heisenberg model with term to describe
the anisotropy due to the presence of the nanodot edge. We have considered the
thickness of the edge, which was not considered in previous works, introducing
a term that controls the energy associated to the edge. Our results clearly
show that the thickness of the edge has a considerable influence in the vortex
nucleation on magnetic nanodots. We have obtained the hysteresis curve for
several values of the surface anisotropy and skin depth parameter (). The
results are in excellent agreement with experimental data
O modelo Anova de Kelley: Análise, críticas e alternativas
In this article, the author claims that a
harmful assimetry has been growing in Attribution
Theory literature. This assimetry is
characterized by a great multitude of empirical
research and by a very scarce conceptual
production. As an attempt to counter this
state of affairs, the author provides a detailed
analysis of the theoretical process of generation
and development of Kelley's ANOVA
model, criticizes it and presents two alternative
Attribution models (Saspar's inductive
Logical Model and present author's «Method
of Differences» - based Model). The main
insufficiences of these lines of work are also
spelled out. Finally, the author tries to antecipate
what steps are to be taken to overcome
these insufficiences. Specifically it is argued
that the commonsense process of explaining
events should be viewed as a knowledge-based
inference process and the lay attributor as an
hypothesis tester
Both associative activation and thematic extraction count, but thematic false memories are more easily rejected
The main aim of this study was to analyse the roles played by associative activation and thematic
extraction in the explanation of false memories using the Deese, Roediger, McDermott (DRM)
paradigm. Associative lists with two different types of critical items (CIs) were used: one, the associative
CI, corresponded to the word most strongly primed by the associates in the list and another, the thematic
CI, was the word that best described the theme of the list. Following three different types of encoding
instructions (standard, warning or strategic), false recognition for these two types of CIs was analysed in
either self-paced or speeded response recognition tests. The results showed considerable levels of false
memories for both types of CIs. Even without the quality of being “good themes”, associative CIs
produced high levels of false recognition, which suggests that associative activation plays a prominent
role in false memory formation. More interestingly, thematic CIs were more prone to be edited out,
reinforcing the argument that thematic identifiability has a major role in the rejection of false memories
No
Aquaculture International, North American Journal of Aquaculture, Israeli Journal of
Aquaculture, Journal of the World Aquaculture Society) e avaliar a qualidade das
mesmas, entre 2007 e 2017, através de indicadores bibliométricos. Para a realização
deste estudo utilizou-se a informação indexada no sistema Journal of Citation Reports.
Journal Impact Factor é a Aquaculture. Adicionalmente, verificou-se que a revista de
aquacultura com um maior Journal Impact Factor, Average Journal Impact Factor
Percentile, Total Cites e Immediacy Index é a Aquaculture.
New insights for identification of clinical isolates of Trichophyton rubrum using MALDI-TOF MS
Dermatophytoses are the most common fungal infection worldwide with a nondespicable
impact in health-care costs. Trichophyton rubrum is an antropophilic
dermatophyte species very well adapted to human host causing chronic and slowly
progressing disease on keratinised tissues. It is the causative agents of about 70%
of all human dermatophytoses. Besides their distribution all over the world this
species is by far, the most frequently isolated species on onychomycosis and tinea
pedis. Matrix Assisted Laser Desorption Ionisation Time of Flight Mass
Spectrometry (MALDI-TOF MS) analysis has already been used as a rapid
technique in the identification and classification of microorganisms. It has
progressively been incorporated as a technique in the polyphasic approach to
improve the accuracy of the microbial identification issue. This technique has also
been used as a tool for the fast identification of filamentous fungi with clinical
relevance including dermatophytes. In this study twenty clinical dermatophyte
isolates were analysed using a polyphasic approach that was based on macro- and
micro-morphologies, biochemistry, molecular biology using ITS 1-4 sequencing
data and primers M13, (GACA)4 and (AC)10 for typing and, MALDI-TOF MS
analyses. Eighteen of these clinical dermatophyte isolates were collected from
human nails. The remaining 2 isolates were the reference strain T. rubrum ATCC
MYA-4438 that was used as positive control and the strain T. mentagrophytes
ATCC MYA-4439 that was used as out-group. Preliminary results based on macroand
micro-morphologies indicated that all isolates were T. rubrum. These results
were confirmed by molecular biology and MALDI-TOF MS techniques. For
molecular approach 16 T. rubrum isolates were clustered in a single group with
100% of genotypic homology of the ITS1-4 region. Moreover, 2 remaining T.
rubrum isolates were found having 98% of homology in this region. Similar
clusters were found for M13 and (GACA)4 primers. In contrast, (AC)10 was not
discriminative. MALDI-TOF MS analysis corroborates with morphological and
molecular identifications. Nine T. rubrum isolates were clustered on a single group
evidencing 100% similarity and the remaining T. rubrum isolates were distributed
over the MALDI-TOF MS dendrogram showing phenotypic variability. MALDI-TOF
MS shown to be as good as molecular biology and, moreover, rapid, low-cost and
accurate alternative tool for identification and strain typing of T. rubrum clinical
isolates. Analysis of mass spectra profiles provided new insights in the proteomic
approach for strain typing of clinical isolates of T. rubrum. As a matter of
consequence, MALDI-TOF MS can be suitable as point-of-care diagnostic for
dermatophytoses.European Community’s Seventh Framework Programme (FP7, 2007-2013), Research
