Transport Routier Et Pollution De L’air : Etude De La Conscience Environnementale Des Automobilistes Dans La Commune De Cocody (Abidjan)

    Get PDF
Like other sub-Saharan African cities, Abidjan undergoes environmental and health impacts of air pollution, mainly due to the dynamism observed in recent years in the field of transport. Cocody commune of Abidjan, is a field of study relevant to the extent that the source of pollution from traffic is predominant. Both qualitative and quantitative methodology was developed to highlight significant differences between vehicle pollution and the environmental awareness of stakeholders relations. Practices of motorists do not take into account environmental concerns; they perceive the risks of automobile pollution as a necessary evil. All these elements here that reflect environmental awareness, urban air pollution explain the outcome of the traffic in Cocody

Glial activation in white matter following ischemia in the neonatal P7 rat brain

This study examines cell death and proliferation in the white matter after neonatal stroke. In post-natal day 7 injured rat, there was a marked reduction in myelin basic protein (MBP) immunostaining mainly corresponding to numerous pyknotic immature oligodendrocytes and TUNEL-positive astrocytes in the ipsilateral external capsule. In contrast, a substantial restoration of MBP, as indicated by the MBP ratio of left-toright, occurred in the cingulum at 48 (1.27 +- 0.12) and 72 (1.30 +- 0.18, p<0.05) hours of recovery as compared to age-matched controls (1.03 +- 0.14). Ki-67 immunostaining revealed a first peak of newly-generated cells in the dorsolateral hippocampal subventricular zone and cingulum at 72 hours after reperfusion. Double immunofluorescence revealed that most of the Ki-67-positive cells were astrocytes at 48 hours and NG2 pre-oligodendrocytes at 72 hours of recovery. Microglia infiltration occurs over several days in the cingulum and a huge quantity of macrophages reached the subcortical white matter where they engulfed immature oligodendrocytes. The overall results suggest that the persistent activation of microglia involves a chronic component of immunoinflammation, which overwhelms repair processes and contributes to cystic growth in the developing brain.Comment: 30 page

Language Education and Multilingualism – The Langscape Journal Vol. 5

    Get PDF
The fifth volume of Langscape’s scholarly open-access, peer-reviewed online journal is devoted to the theme of "Multilingualism in Virtual Communication and Encounters. New Approaches to Educational Contexts". Whatever the professional domain that may be considered, contemporary work-related practices, habits and gestures tend to become dematerialised and virtualised. This trend seems to correlate with the ever-expanding use of digital-based technologies, in European countries (Cousteaux, 2019; Eurostat, 2020) as much as anywhere else in the world (GurrĂa, 2019; Wyckoff, 2019). This trend has been even more pronounced since the outbreak of the world-wide pandemic situation in 2020. As a direct result from far-reaching lockdown measures, working and studying from home has become a daily routine for billions of people across the globe and seems to be here to stay.

Lactate dehydrogenase as a marker of Plasmodium infection in malaria vector Anopheles

    Get PDF
Lactate dehydrogenase (Ldh) electrophoresis showed the presence of #Plasmodium yoelii yoelii in #Anopheles stephensi and #An. gambiae. The Ldh appeared as an additional band (pLdh) whose activity was more intense with 3-acetyl pyridine adenine dinucleotide as coenzyme than with beta nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide. Several allelic forms occurred both in the vector and the host. The isoelectric point of Ldh, similar in the vector and host, differed from those of Ldh from mosquito and mouse. The presence of pLdh was detected from the 2nd to the 28th day of infection. The pLdh appeared to be proportional to the number of sporozoites present in infected salivary glands. However, pLdh was not found in salivary glands or midguts, but it was detected in the rest of the corresponding mosquito. The origin and use of pLdh as a marker of #Plasmodium in its vector is discussed. (Résumé d'auteur

Gender Typicality and Prestige of Occupational Aspirations in Adolescents: The Relevance of Agency and Communion

Occupational gender segregation is still a persistent problem in the labor market. This study investigates gender differences in gender typicality and prestige of occupational aspirations in early adolescence, as well as the role of agency and communion in these differences. In total, 2779 adolescents (age 11–15) reported their occupational aspirations, later coded for gender typicality and prestige. Participants also described themselves spontaneously with three attributes, then coded in terms of agency and communion. The results showed significant gender differences in a stereotypical direction for 40% of the occupations named, with boys expressing a clear preference for male-dominated and girls for female-dominated occupations. Conversely, the results revealed higher aspirations among girls regarding occupational prestige. Communion was found to be a significant mediator between gender and aspirations to typically feminine occupations, while agency mediated the relationship between gender and the prestige of aspirations. The findings’ implications for theory and practice are discussed
