Big data and official data: a cointegration analysis based on Google Trends and economic indicators

[EN] In this paper the relationship between the Industrial Production Index (IPI), the confidence index for the manufacturing sector and Google searches for several words linked to the economic situation is explored. In particular, time series referred to the period January 2004 - September 2016 on Italian data. An analysis of significant correlations between the selected indicators is achieved to explore the probable comovements of same. Adding one observation at a time since the first forewarning signs of the 2008 crisis, we find that a few Google searches and the IPI cointegrate, particularly during the strong downward trend leading to January 2009, while there is no cointegration between confidence indicators and the IPI. These results suggest that searches in google and the IPI or the confidence indexes are influenced by common circumstances. Finally forecasts of the IPI obtained through VECM models suggest that the evolution of the IPI can be well represented using the real time Gtrends selected variables.Crosato, L.; Mariani, P.; Marletta, A.; Zavanella, B. Language and teaching are two aspects that cannot be separated to reach the objective ofthe lesson. Teaching is not only teaching about content but also the delivery to behavelinguistically through language. This study was conducted to find how the implementationof positive politeness strategies used by lecturers in teaching English at the EnglishDepartment of Lambung Mangkurat UniversityThe researcher used a descriptivequalitative approach to analyze the data. Therefore, because of this relevancy, theresearcher wanted to get representative results naturally as the process of doing thisresearcher related to politeness strategies used by lecturers in the English Department ofFKIP ULM. During the teaching and learning process at the English Department ofLambung Mangkurat University, it was found that the implementation of positivepoliteness strategies by lecturers is relevant to the teaching phases (pre-activity, whileactivity, and post-activity). The application of positive politeness strategies from everysubject showed that three of the lecturers almost used the same strategy where positivepoliteness strategies were implemented by showing attention, repeating students' answer, praising students, and showing gratitude to the students. Therefore, the researchersuggested that these positive politeness strategies will always be implemented due toseveral importances to make the delivery of teaching and learning process runs smoothly

Human Glial Progenitor Cells Effectively Remyelinate the Demyelinated Adult Brain

Neonatally transplanted human glial progenitor cells (hGPCs) can myelinate the brains of myelin-deficient shiverer mice, rescuing their phenotype and survival. Yet, it has been unclear whether implanted hGPCs are similarly able to remyelinate the diffusely demyelinated adult CNS. We, therefore, ask if hGPCs could remyelinate both congenitally hypomyelinated adult shiverers and normal adult mice after cuprizone demyelination. In adult shiverers, hGPCs broadly disperse and differentiate as myelinating oligodendrocytes after subcortical injection, improving both host callosal conduction and ambulation. Implanted hGPCs similarly remyelinate denuded axons after cuprizone demyelination, whether delivered before or after demyelination. RNA sequencing (RNA-seq) of hGPCs back from cuprizone-demyelinated brains reveals their transcriptional activation of oligodendrocyte differentiation programs, while distinguishing them from hGPCs not previously exposed to demyelination. These data indicate the ability of transplanted hGPCs to disperse throughout the adult CNS, to broadly myelinate regions of dysmyelination, and also to be recruited as myelinogenic oligodendrocytes later in life, upon demyelination-associated demand

Mechanisms and consequences of life cycle diversity of beaked redfish, Sebastes mentella

    Get PDF
Recent genetic research, supported by life history information, indicates that there are three biological stocks of S. mentella in the Irminger Sea and adjacent waters: a ‘Deep Pelagic’ stock (>500m), a ‘Shallow Pelagic’ stock (<500m), and an ‘Icelandic Slope’ stock. Throughout their range, Sebastes species are adapted to a diversity of ecological niches, with overlapping spatial distributions of different species that have little or no morphological differences. Divergence of behavioral groups into depth-defined adult habitats has led to reproductive isolation, adaptive radiation and speciation of several Sebastes species. Congruent differences in fatty acid composition and parasites suggests that the three genetically distinct populations of S. mentella are adapted to disparate trophic habitats in pelagic waters (shallower and deeper than the deep-scattering layer), and in demersal habitats on the continental slope. Patterns of morphology are also consistent with adaptation to different habitats, because pelagic forms are more streamlined. Although genetic differences and evidence for reproductive isolation are clear, these populations appear to share common nursery habitats on the Greenlandic Shelf. Spatial overlap at early life stages and depth-defined adult populations present challenges for stock identification and fishery management. Effective resource monitoring, conservation and fishery management requires that the spatial definition of management units reflects biological stock structure. We describe a proposal for a redefinition of practical management units that are based on geographic proxies for biological stocks which minimizes mixed-stock catches according to spatial patterns of the recent fishery
