    English Teaching in Cyberculture: A Brief Analysis

    The present study aimed to comparatively analyze the potential of BBC Learning English and Memrise platforms, in inclusive English teaching. This is a qualitative-interpretative research based in exploratory approach which methodological-theoretical framework is anchored to the Bakhtinian dialogic language conception, to the second language acquisition theory to the Computer-Assisted Language Learning theory), to multiliteracies; and to the English use as a Lingua Franca. For the analysis, we have built a matrix based on the English language acquisition context. The analysis steps ran through the evaluation matrix building, the exploration and development of a comparative study of BBC learning and Memrise platforms on the defined parameters. To the parameters building, the linguistic, methodological, and accessibility aspects in the websites were considered. After analyzing BBC learning English and Memrise, it was identified that they do not encompass dialogical language acquisition and the concept of multiliteracies

    Comparative Cr, As and CCA induced Cytostaticity in mice kidney: a contribution to assess CCA toxicity

    CCA (Chromium Copper Arsenate) treated wood, widely used in outdoor residential structures and playgrounds, poses considerable dangers of leaching of its components to the environment. In this study, mouse kidney samples were used to evaluate the effects of CCA, chromium trioxide (CrO3) and arsenic pentoxide (As2O5) on cell pathophysiology by flow cytometry. Samples were collected after 14, 24, 48 and 96 h of animal exposure. While Cr had no statistically significant cytostatic effects, As2O5 induced a S-phase delay in animals exposed for 24 h, and over time a G0/G1 phase blockage. The effects of CCA in S-phase were similar, but more severe than those of As2O5. Since environmental and public health hazards due to the long durability of CCA-treated wood products, these data confirm that CCA has profoundly toxic effects on cell cycle, distinct from the compounds themselves. These cytostatic effects support cell cycle dynamics as a valuable endpoint to assess the toxicity of remaining CCA-treated infrastructures, and the expected increased waste stream over the coming decades.publishe

    Production of an enzymatic cocktail by Aspergillus awamori grown on corn straw with stirred tank bioreactor

    Increased agroindustrial activity has led to the accumulation of large amounts of lignocellulosic material (LCM). LCM is nature's most abundant source of renewable carbon, representing a valuable industrial substrate with potential for many applications. Thus, the objective of this work was to screen for different holocellulases and to analyze the production of an Aspergillus awamori enzyme cocktail grown in corn straw (CS) using a stirred tank bioreactor. Screening was performed with A. clavatus, A. flavus, A. terreus, A. niveus, A. awamori and A. brasiliensis cultivated in minimal medium (MM), with 1% CS at 30 ºC or 37 ºC (for A. niveus), 120 rpm, for 5 days. Xylanase (XYN) and endoglucanase (EG) activities were evaluated by formation of reducing sugars using dinitrosalicylic acid (DNS). Cellobiohydrolase (CBH), -glucosidase (BGL) and -xylosidase (BXL) were determined by cleavage of PNP--D-cellobioside, PNP--D-glucopyranoside and PNP--D- xylopyranoside, respectively. After screening, a pre-inoculum was prepared with the best enzyme producer using a 500 mL MM flask and incubated at 30 °C, 120 rpm for 48 hours. The increase of enzyme production was performed in a Benchtop BioFlo 310 bioreactor, with 4.5 L of MM and 1% of CS, and was then inoculated the best enzyme producer. Cultivation was performed at 30 °C, pH 6.5, 275 rpm, air flow 2 v.v.m., for 5 days. During the screening, all fungi presented EG, CBH, BGL, XYN and BXL activities. However, A. awamori was chosen to continue the experiments because of its BXL activity which was 12.6 times higher than that produced by A. niveus. At the scale-up stage, XYN production (47.80 U/ mL) increased 4.1-fold compared to flask activity (11.52 U/mL). BXL also showed 1.6-times higher activity, as well as EG, CBH and BGL, which improved 2.3, 3.3 and 1.2 times their activities, respectively. It was concluded that the staggering of cocktail production improved the enzymatic activities and that corn straw is an excellent source of induction.     Comparison in the Trichoderma longibrachiatum xyloglucanase production using tamarind (Tamarindus indica) and jatobá (Hymenaea courbaril) seeds: factorial design and immobilization on ionic supports

There are five types of enzymes known to be capable of cleaving the linear chain of xyloglucan, the most famous of them being the xyloglucanase (XEG). The immobilization can be used to solve problems related to stability, besides the economic benefits brought by the possibility of repeated use and recovery, decreasing the costs of production. Therefore, this study aims the optimization of the production of a xyloglucanase from Trichoderma longibrachiatum, with the aid of factorial design, using tamarind (Tamarindus indica) and jatobá (Hymenaea courbaril) seeds as carbon source; and the immobilization of the enzyme on ionic supports, such as MANAE (monoamino-N-aminoethyl), DEAE (diethylaminoethyl)-cellulose, CM (carboxymethyl)-cellulose and PEI (polyethyleneimine). High concentrations of carbon source in the culture medium, especially tamarind seeds, were the most favorable conditions for the greater activity of the xyloglucanase from T. longibrachiatum. The scaling up from Erlenmeyer flasks to the bioreactor was an essential strategy to increase the content of secreted enzyme. Regarding the biochemical characterization of the crude extract, the optimal temperature was 50-55 °C and the optimal pH 5.0.     Toll-like Receptor 4, F4/80 And Pro-inflammatory Cytokines In Intestinal And Mesenteric Fat Tissue Of Crohn's Disease.

    Crohn's disease (CD) is a chronic intestinal ailment with a multifactorial etiology, whose incidence has increased during the last three decades. Recently, a role for mesenteric fat has been proposed in CD pathophysiology, since fat hypertrophy is detected nearby the affected intestinal area; however, there are few studies on this aspect. To evaluate inflammatory activity in intestinal mucosa and mesenteric fat tissue of patients with CD and controls. Ten patients with ileocecal CD and 16 patients with non-inflammatory disease (control groups) were studied. The specimens were snap-frozen and the expression of TLR-4, F4/80, IL1-β and IL-6 were determined by immunoblot of protein extracts. TLR4 RNA level were measured using RT-PCR. The t Test was applied (p<0.05). The local ethical committee approved the study. The intestinal mucosa of CD group had significantly higher protein levels of TLR-4, F4/80, IL-1β and IL-6 than the controls. The gene expression of TLR4 was lower in the intestinal mucosa of CD compared to the control group. Regard the mesenteric fat tissue, there was no statistical difference related to TLR-4, F4/80, IL-1β and IL-6 proteins expression. These findings may result from an up-regulation of macrophage activation and intracellular pathways activated by bacterial antigens, which are more important in intestinal mucosa than fat tissue in CD patients. This may represent an anomalous regulation of innate immunity and could contribute to the production of proinflammatory mediators and disease development.698-10

    Pós-operatório de queiloplastia e palatoplastia: dúvidas dos cuidadores

    Objetivo: identificar as principais dúvidas dos cuidadores de crianças com fissura labiopalatina sobre os cuidados pós-operatórios das cirurgias de queiloplastia e palatoplastia. Método: estudo transversal, descritivo, de abordagem quantitativa, realizado na Unidade de Internação do Hospital de Reabilitação de Anomalias Craniofaciais. A população foi composta por cuidadores de crianças com fissura labiopalatina submetidas à queiloplastia ou palatoplastia. A amostra constou de 50 indivíduos selecionados consecutivamente, sendo 25 cuidadores de crianças submetidas à queiloplastia e 25 das submetidas à palatoplastia, que se encontravam hospitalizadas para a realização destas cirurgias. A coleta de dados ocorreu durante a consulta de enfermagem préoperatória e as dúvidas foram categorizadas por similaridade. Os dados foram submetidos à análise estatística descritiva. Resultados: em relação à queiloplastia, as dúvidas foram sobre a alimentação (36%), higienização e cicatrização (24% cada), dor e infecção (8% cada). Quanto à palatoplastia, as dúvidas foram sobre a alimentação (48%), higienização (24%), dor (16%), sangramento (8%) e infecção (4%). Conclusões: as dúvidas que prevaleceram foram sobre a alimentação, higienização e a prevenção de complicações pós-operatórias, incluindo dor, sangramento e infecção. Nesse contexto, foi evidenciada a necessidade de enfatizar a função educativa do enfermeiro, por meio da promoção de esclarecimentos e de uma comunicação adequada acerca dos cuidados pós-operatórios
