Solidariedade, dádiva e mercados privados numa comunidade eborense : sustentabilidade e processos constitutivos dos agentes de cuidado

Existem hoje em Portugal situações de ampla e expressa carência multidimensional de base fundamentalmente socioconómica, para as quais as instituições de bem estar público não têm oferecido ajuda suficiente e dedicada. As narrativas de necessidades são correntes nos quotidianos, verificando-se a emergência de processos de cuidado informal e de ajuda variada ao Outro. Nesse sentido, produzem-se mecanismos e modelos de ação privados de abrangência coletiva, engenhosamente articulados com as (macro) estruturas formais. As práticas de cuidado informal, solidárias e de voluntariado, geram novos mercados sociais, afectivos e morais, assentes em noções coletivamente partilhadas de bem, justiça e moralidade. Neste trabalho procuro analisar como esses mercados intentam resolver aquelas situações deficitárias, através da dádiva e troca recíproca de bens e capitais múltiplos, considerando que essas ações evidenciam uma mudança social para paradigmas ecológicos, políticos e económicos mais sustentados, que adquirem importância central nos processos de reprodução social e de melhoria das condições de vida dos agentes sociais.Currently in Portugal there are situations of broad and visible multidimensional human absence, grounded primarily in socioeconomic factors, to which public welfare institutions, have not offered enough and specialised support. The speeches about human needs are common nowadays, with processes of informal care and varied support of the Other becoming even more emerging. Mechanisms and private action models of collective scope thus show up, which are resourcefully linked with (macro) formal structures. Informal practices of care, solidarity and volunteering, create new social, affective and moral markets, grounded in collective and shared senses of common good, justice and morality. In this dissertation I will analyse how these markets try to solve these deprived situations, through share and reciprocal exchange of goods and varied capitals that substantiate a social change that lead to new and more sustainable ecological, political and economic paradigms and bear key importance in the social reproduction process and in living conditions improvements of social agents

Words make people think, ... but pictures make people feel: The effect negative vs. positive images on charitable behavior

We ran an experiment where the subjects initially played a four-round dictator game, after which each subject was shown either a set of positive images or a set of negative images. Finally the subjects played another four-round dictator game.
The effect of the sign of images shown is clear on the players’ behaviors: positive images have moderate effects on charitable behavior while negative images dramatically increase charity.
We could therefore infer from our experimental results that showing negative images of the Haitian and Chilean catastrophes to the international public would have significant positive impacts on international donations to the victims and the rebuilding programs in both countries

"E o que é que é preciso para ser voluntário?": voluntariado como modelo de governança em contextos de crise: Portugal 2012-2018

As organizações de solidariedade social proliferaram em Portugal no período da austeridade, mobilizadas por um impulso ético coletivo que visava suprir necessidades de emergência do período da "crise". Esta tese analisa as representações/necessidades inscritas no voluntariado alimentar e de proximidade, inserido num contexto politico paradigmático de ação social e alicerçado na transferência de parte da responsabilidade pública para as organizações privadas. O trabalho de campo foi realizado em quatro organizações de voluntariado em Évora, Lisboa e Setúbal, que ofereciam recursos materiais doados na comunidade - bens básicos - aos beneficiários e procuravam suprir necessidades imateriais (cuidado e companhia). A atividade voluntária cruza domínios privados, casa e família, institucionalizando uma parceria de apoio social partilhada com o Estado, que corporiza uma gestão "combinada" de "crise". Esta interseção é fundamental para a reprodução da pessoa e da família e evita o colapso das comunidades nas quais as organizações atuam. O paradigma assenta na disseminação de uma retórica pública de empoderamento dos agentes privados, pessoas e instituições, uma ética "moralizadora" que instiga os cidadãos para a ação social. Porém, os beneficiários das organizações de solidariedade revelam sentidos de precarização e de perdas simbólicas, o que rompe com as suas noções de bem estar social e com o princípio keynesiano de confiança, pilar basilar do Estado Providente. O modelo de governança paritária deverá se alvo de revisão dado que interfere nas economias reais, sobretudo em contextos de crise onde fazer a vida depende, em grande medida, da providência social.In Portugal, voluntary social organisations expanded during austerity and were mobilised by a collective ethic impulse which aimed to solve emergency needs at the time of "crisis". This thesis examines representations/needs inscribed in food and proximity volunteering, which is inserted in a paradigmatic political social action framework grounded in the transfer of part of public liabilities. Fieldwork was made in four volunteering organisations localised in Évora, Lisboa e Setúbal which offered material resources donated by the community - basic goods - to the beneficiaries and tried to solve intangible needs (care and company). Voluntary activity intersects private domains, household and family, institutionalising social assistance partnerships with the State, which embodies a "shared" management of "crisis". This junction is crucial to family and individual reproduction and prevents the collapse of the communities where organisations operate. This paradigm is settled in a public rhetoric of empowerment of private agents and institutions, a "moralising" ethic which stimulates citizens to social action. However, solidarity organisations’ recipients reveal precarisation senses and symbolic loses, which breaks their well-being notions and keynesian principle of trust, which is a fundamental pilar of Welfare State. This joint governance model has to be reviewed since it intervenes whit real economies of society, specially in crisis situations where getting by depends on social provision to a large extent

Conducting Molecular Nanomagnet of DyIII with Partially Charged TCNQ Radicals

artículo científicoBifunctional electrically conducting single-molecule magnets are highly promising platforms for non-volatile memory devices and quantum computing applications. The development of these molecular materials, however, has largely been hindered by the lack of straightforward synthetic methods. Herein we demonstrate a facile and modular approach for the realization of bifunctional materials that does not require electrochemical or chemical oxidation to obtain partially charged organic radicals. Magnetic and electrical conductivity studies reveal that the Dy(III) compound exhibits slow relaxation of the magnetization between 5.0-8.0 K and semiconducting behavior over the range 180-350 K. Facile synthesis of Cd-substituted zeolitic-imidazolate framework Cd-ZIF-8 and mixed-metal CdZn-ZIF-8

scientific paperZeolitic-imidazole framework ZIF-8 has attracted tremendous interests for the highresolution kinetic separation of propylene/propane mixture due to its effective aperture size in between the sizes of propylene and propane molecules. It is of great interest to fine-tune the effective aperture size of ZIF-8 either to improve its propylene/propane separation performances or to extend its use to the separation of other gas mixtures. It has been shown that substituting Zn with other metal nodes (e.g. Co) is a potential means to fine-tune the effective aperture size of ZIF-8. Here, we attempt to introduce another metal center, Cd, into ZIF-8 in a facile and scalable manner. Phase-pure Cd-ZIF-8 was successfully synthesized in methanol using a conventional solvothermal method, although it showed a narrow synthesis window. The presence of an organic base (triethylamine, TEA) was found critical not only for the facile synthesis of phase-pure Cd- ZIF-8 but also for the suppression of its phase transformation. A battery of characterizations including single-crystal X-ray structure solutions confirmed that the effective aperture size of Cd-ZIF-8 is the largest among its iso-structures (Zn-ZIF-8 and Co-ZIF-8). Finally, for the first time, mixed-metal CdZn-ZIF-8 crystals with various Cd/Zn ratios were solvothermally synthesized, demonstrating a further opportunity for varying the effective aperture sizes of ZIF-8 and its iso-structures.National Science Foundation Qatar National Research Fund Texas A&M Engineering Experimental Station

Asesoría en la identificación y evaluación de competencias laborales para el personal que participa en los procesos desarrollados por la División de Personal del Ingenio Mayaguez S.A.

Esta asesoría empresarial tiene como objetivo servir de apoyo al Ingenio Mayagüez S.A. para la formulación de una metodología que les permita identificar, definir y medir las competencias laborales presentes en cada colaborador, cumpliendo con los parámetros establecidos en la Norma ISO 9001:200. Utilizando como modelo a la División de Personal del Ingenio se realiza una prueba piloto, la cual permite identificar los pasos a seguir para la formulación de la metodología. Estos inician con la identificación de las actividades, tareas o funciones de cada cargo, luego con la formulación de la misión u objetivo del cargo; la formulación de responsabilidades a partir de las actividades identificadas; la formulación de actitudes y habilidades para el desarrollo del cargo; la identificación y definición de las competencias laborales para el cargo; seguidamente la documentación de los perfiles de competencia y por último muestra el diseño del instrumento que permitirá evaluar y medir las competencias laborales encontradas. Los resultados obtenidos con la aplicación de la metodología formulada en la asesoría par la identificación y medición de las competencias laborales en la División de Personal le permitirá a la Empresa replicar la para el resto de áreas administrativas que la conforman. Relaxation Dynamics of Identical Trigonal Bipyramidal Cobalt Molecules with Different Local Symmetries and Packing Arrangements: Magnetostructural Correlations and ab inito Calculations

A family of isostructural, mononuclear CoII complexes with distorted trigonal bipyramidal coordination environments is reported. The degree of distortion as well as the overall symmetry of the molecules varies among the members of the series. Different experimental procedures resulted in the isolation of solvomorphs (pseudopolymorphs with different solvent content) for some of the family members. Importantly, their disparate packing arrangements lead to very different dynamic magnetic behavior. The results of magnetostructural correlations and ab initio calculations reveal that the deciding factor for SMM behavior is not the degree of distortion which, a priori, would be expected to be the case, but rather the interactions between neighboring molecules in the solid state.Department of Energy, Basic Energy Sciences, Materials Sciences Division Robert A. Gestión de la innovación tecnológica como factor de promoción del emprendimiento en universidades privadas venezolanas

The purpose was to analyze the management of technological innovation as a factor for promoting entrepreneurship in Venezuelan private universities. Positivist research and experimental transectional not descriptive, field based on population census managers and university students last academic year for research projects. He used Likert questionnaire whose reliability Cronbach's alpha yielded results of 0.97 and 0.95 in in college students managers. It is concluded that should rise indicators of technological activity management and models of technology transfer to the university environment, by motivating students and inclusion in calls for innovation projects.El propósito fue analizar la gestión de innovación tecnológica como factor de promoción del emprendimiento en universidades privadas venezolanas. La investigación positivista de tipo descriptiva, de campo, no experimental y transeccional se basó en censo poblacional de gerentes universitarios y estudiantes del último periodo académico con proyectos investigativos. Utilizó cuestionario likert, cuya confiabilidad Alfa de Cronbach arrojó resultados de 0.97 en gerentes universitarios y 0.95 en estudiantes. Se concluye que deben elevarse los indicadores de gestión de actividad tecnológica y modelos de transferencia tecnológica al entorno universitario, mediante la motivación a estudiantes e inclusión en convocatorias de proyectos de innovación

Magnetic ordering in self-assembled materials consisting of cerium(III) ions and the radical forms of 2,5-TCNQX 2 (X=Cl, Br)

Strong Ferromagnetic Exchange Coupling Mediated by a Bridging Tetrazine Radical in a Dinuclear Nickel Complex.

The radical bridged compound [(Ni- (TPMA))2-μ-bmtz•−](BF4)3·3CH3CN (bmtz = 3,6-bis- (2′-pyrimidyl)-1,2,4,5-tetrazine, TPMA = tris(2- pyridylmethyl)amine) exhibits strong ferromagnetic exchange between the S = 1 NiII centers and the bridging S = 1/2 bmtz radical with J = 96 ± 5 cm−1 (−2JNi‑radSNiSrad).
