Índices de tendencia y distribución para variables ordinales aplicados a valores indicadores de Ellenberg
The use of mean value for the analysis of Ellenberg indicator values in plots or plant community types has been criticised by several authors. On the other hand, little attention has been paid to distribution patterns of the respective classes frequencies. Herewith we make a revision of metrics available for the characterization of tendency and distribution patterns of ordinal variables, like in the case of Ellenberg indicator values, and discuss their relation to frequency histogram shapes. We selected three tendencies (mean value, median value and mode) and two distribution metrics (position index and relative dominance). Additionally, we proposed a concentration index, which is analogous to the contagion index commonly used by landscape ecologists. According to our observations, we recommend the use of the median value and the concentration index to quantify respectively the tendency and distribution patterns on indicator spectra (frequency histograms) according to the Ellenberg indicator values. Further studies are required to get better ecological interpretations in the distribution patterns of indicator spectra.
The KINDRA project. A tool for sharing Europe’s groundwater research and knowledge
Hydrogeology-related research activities cover a wide spectrum of research areas at EU and national levels. The KINDRA project (Knowledge Inventory for hydrogeology
research, Grant Agreement No. 642047) seeks to create a critical mass for scientific knowledge exchange of hydrogeological research, to ensure wide applicability on research results - including support for innovation and development - and to reduce unnecessary duplication of efforts. A new terminology and classification methodology for groundwater R&D results and activities (Hydrogeological Research Classification System: HRC-SYS) has been developed based on a hierarchical structure using keywords derived from EU directives and scientific journals. This classification allows the population of a European Inventory of Groundwater Research (EIGR) of research results, activities, projects, and programmes to be used to identify critical research challenges and gaps, for better implementation of the Water Framework Directive

Local high relief at the southern margin of the Andean plateau by 9 Ma: evidence from ignimbritic valley fills and river incision
A valley-filling ignimbrite re-exposed through subsequent river incision at the southern margin of the Andean (Puna) plateau preserves pristine geological evidence of pre-late Miocene paleotopography in the northwestern Argentine Andes. Our new 40Ar/39Ar dating of the Las Papas ignimbrites yields a plateau age of 9.24 ± 0.03 Ma, indicating valley relief and orographic-barrier conditions comparable to the present-day. A later infill of Plio- Pleistocene coarse conglomerates has been linked to wetter conditions, but resulted in no additional net incision of the Las Papas valley, considering that the base of the ignimbrite remains unexposed in the valley bottom. Our observations indicate that at least 550 m of local plateau margin relief (and likely >2 km) existed by 9 Ma at the southern Puna margin, which likely increased the efficiency of the orographic barrier to rainfall along the eastern and southeastern flanks of the Puna and caused aridity in the plateau interior.Fil: Montero Lopez, Maria Carolina.
Rhinoentomophthoramycosis caused by Conidiobolus coronatus in a 61-year old woman was unsuccessfully treated during 8 years with all the antifungals available in the Brazilian market, including potassium iodide for 1 month, sulfamethoxazole plus trimethoprim for 2 months, amphotericin B, total dose of 1130 mg, cetoconazole, 400 mg/day for 6 months, fluconazole, 200 mg/day, for at least 2 months and, itraconazole, 400 mg/day for 2 months, followed by 200 mg/day for 4 more months. Complete clinical and mycological cure was achieved using itraconazol 400 mg/day in association with fluconazol 200 mg/day during 24 months. After cure she was submitted to plastic surgery to repair her facial deformation. Today she remains clinically and mycologically cured after 59/60 months (5 years!) without any specific antifungal. We thus suggest the use of the combination of itraconazole and fluconazole as an additional option for the treatment of this mycosis

Extracellular vesicles are secreted by all cell types and are currently established to some extent as representatives of the cell of origin. The present study characterized and evaluated the diagnostic and prognostic potential of plasma extracellular vesicles (EVs) proteome in DLBCL by using state-of-the-art mass spectrometry. The EV proteome is strongly affected by DLBCL status, with multiple proteins uniquely identified in the plasma of DLBCL. A proof-of-concept classifier resulted in highly accurate classification with a sensitivity and specificity of 1 when tested on the holdout test data set. On the other hand, no proteins were identified to correlate with non-germinal center B-cell like (non-GCB) or GCB subtypes to a significant degree after correction for multiple testing. However, functional analysis suggested that antigen binding is regulated when comparing non-GCB and GCB. Survival analysis based on protein quantitative values and clinical parameters identified multiple EV proteins as significantly correlated to survival. In conclusion, the plasma extracellular vesicle proteome identifies DLBCL cancer patients from healthy donors and contains potential EV protein markers for prediction of survival.publishersversionpublishe
CRYSTALpytools: A Python infrastructure for the Crystal code
CRYSTALpytools is an open source Python project available on GitHub that implements a user-friendly interface to the Crystal code for quantum-mechanical condensed matter simulations. CRYSTALpytools provides functionalities to: i) write and read Crystal input and output files for a range of calculations (single-point, electronic structure, geometry optimization, harmonic and quasi-harmonic lattice dynamics, elastic tensor evaluation, topological analysis of the electron density, electron transport, and others); ii) extract relevant information; iii) create workflows; iv) post-process computed quantities, and v) plot results in a variety of styles for rapid and precise visual analysis. Furthermore, CRYSTALpytools allows the user to translate Crystal objects (the central data structure of the project) to and from the Structure and Atoms objects of the pymatgen and ASE libraries, respectively. These tools can be used to create, manipulate and visualise complicated structures and write them efficiently to Crystal input files. Jupyter Notebooks have also been developed for the less Python savvy users to guide them in the use of CRYSTALpytools through a user-friendly graphical interface with predefined workflows to complete different specific tasks
