This article considers the experience of improving public spaces of one of the small towns in Sverdlovsk region – the city of Krasnoufimsk. The topic of urban improvement is a serious challenge for our country. When designing public areas, it is important to consider the features of the city, its history, uniqueness, opinion of the population. Several tasks can be solved through the improvement of the city: the development of a comfortable urban environment, attracting tourists and preserving the cultural heritage. The choice of certain landscaping projects in most cases requires historical and cultural examination. Cultural workers should also act as experts in the public space reconstruction project. This article reflects on a similar experience during the reconstruction project of the Ufa river embankment in the central district of Krasnoufimsk, when employees of the regional museum were invited to participate. The text presents examples of filling the space of the embankment with hidden meanings from the regional history. The authors are of the opinion that representatives of museum community in modern society are not only keepers of the past, but also creators of the future image of the city. Keywords: public spaces, urban landscaping, small town, cultural heritage, historical and cultural expertise, local history museu

THE GASTRONOMIC IMAGE OF THE TERRITORY: STRUCTURE AND SPECIFICITY

The article is devoted to the gastronomic culture and its derivative – the gastronomic image of the territory. Gastronomy, as a field of knowledge, reveals the connection between food and culture and is an urgent topic of cultural research. Within the framework of this article, the subject of research is the study of the gastronomic image of the territory from a theoretical point of view. The author seeks to answer the questions: what are the system-forming elements of the gastronomic culture, how do the concepts of “gastronomic image” / “gastronomic brand” relate, what is the structure and what is the specificity of the gastronomic image of the territory in comparison with other perspectives of the positioning of the territory. Method and methodology: the ideas of this article are based on systematic, practical, semiotic approaches in understanding the gastronomic culture, modern gastronomic practices, and the gastronomic image of the city. The novelty and the author’s contribution lies in the theoretical positions that fit into the mainstream of cultural knowledge. The author offers his vision of the system-forming elements of gastronomic culture and his vision of the structure of the gastronomic image of the city as a 4-component fashion: food, places, people, events. The author identifies three specific characteristics of the gastronomic image of the city: 1) authenticity as an optional, not a mandatory feature; 2) dynamism as an indicator of the potentially high variability of the gastronomic image following changing living conditions and available resources; 3) a possible break with the local cultural tradition existing in hidden everyday life, while the gastronomic image is formed in the public sphere with the help of traditional and new media, greedy for hype. The results of the study can be applied in such an area of applied cultural studies as geobrending. A good theory is a guide to action, if you undertake to form a gastronomic image of the city, you need to understand its structure and specifics. The scope of the results: geobranding, cultural industries related to food, brand communications in regional media and new media, tourism

a b s t r a c t The cosmopolitanism paradigm in the biogeography of freshwater invertebrates is currently being replaced by non-cosmopolitanism or continental endemism. Benthic water fleas (Cladocera) from the family Chydoridae were the first group of freshwater invertebrates for which non-cosmopolitanism and cryptic diversity was substantiated by morphological studies. Yet, little is known about genetic differentiation and evolutionary history of chydorid species complexes. Here we present the first analysis of the genetic versus morphological differentiation in a benthic cladoceran species complex-Chydorus sphaericus s. str. using sequence variation in a nuclear (ribosomal internal transcribed spacer 2, ITS-2) and a mitochondrial (cytochrome c oxidase subunit I, COI) genes in 50 Holarctic localities. We tested for continental endemism and cryptic diversity predicted by previous morphological studies. We found evidence for the presence of at least seven putative regional species in the Holarctic, at least three of them being distributed beyond a single continent. While the molecular and sexual stage characters showed general concordance on species lineages, parthenogenetic female characters lacked resolution or were unassociated with molecular lineages. We conclude that cryptic regional lineages of benthic cladocerans are apparent and that the sexual stages represent the most informative morphological source of species characters for this environmental indicator group

A new endemic species of Sesuvium (Aizoaceae: Sesuvioideae) from the Caribbean Basin, with further notes on the genus composition in the West Indies

A distinctive new species, Sesuvium curassavicum Sukhor. (Aizoaceae: Sesuvioideae), restricted to the Caribbean Basin (Kingdom of the Netherlands: Curacao and Bonaire Islands, North Colombia: La Guajira Department, and North Venezuela: Falcon State), is described and illustrated. It differs from all other perennial species growing in the West Indies by its papillate stems and wrinkled seeds. Based on the molecular phylogenetic analysis of nrDNA (ITS) and three plastid regions (rps16 gene intron, atpB-rbcL and trnL-trnF intergenic spacers), S. curassavicum is included in the 'American' clade, but its relationships are not fully resolved. The samples of the plants known as S. microphyllum fall within the 'Sesuvium portulacastrum' clade, and for that reason this species is considered here as a synonym of S. portulacastrum being an ecological form of the latter species. Sesuvium revolutifolium, S. ortegae and S. revolutum, described from cultivated plants are established as earlier synonyms of S. verrucosum, for which S. revolutifolium has priority and is proposed here as the correct name. These three species names seem to share the same provenance which cannot be Cuba, as stated in the protologue for S. revolutifolium, but rather Mexico. The name Sesuvium sessile is discussed and merged with S. portulacastrum. A new diagnostic key to the Sesuvium species in the West Indies is provided. In total, we accept for the West Indies the following species: S. curassavicum, S. humifusum, S. maritimum, S. portulacastrum and S. rubriflorum. The origins of collections of the neotype of Radiana petiolata and the holotypes of Sesuvium microphyllum and S. spathulatum are clarified.Peer reviewe

Fos regulates macrophage infiltration against surrounding tissue resistance by a cortical actin-based mechanism in Drosophila

The infiltration of immune cells into tissues underlies the establishment of tissue-resident macrophages and responses to infections and tumors. Yet the mechanisms immune cells utilize to negotiate tissue barriers in living organisms are not well understood, and a role for cortical actin has not been examined. Here, we find that the tissue invasion of Drosophila macrophages, also known as plasmatocytes or hemocytes, utilizes enhanced cortical F-actin levels stimulated by the Drosophila member of the fos proto oncogene transcription factor family (Dfos, Kayak). RNA sequencing analysis and live imaging show that Dfos enhances F-actin levels around the entire macrophage surface by increasing mRNA levels of the membrane spanning molecular scaffold tetraspanin TM4SF, and the actin cross-linking filamin Cheerio, which are themselves required for invasion. Both the filamin and the tetraspanin enhance the cortical activity of Rho1 and the formin Diaphanous and thus the assembly of cortical actin, which is a critical function since expressing a dominant active form of Diaphanous can rescue the Dfos macrophage invasion defect. In vivo imaging shows that Dfos enhances the efficiency of the initial phases of macrophage tissue entry. Genetic evidence argues that this Dfos-induced program in macrophages counteracts the constraint produced by the tension of surrounding tissues and buffers the properties of the macrophage nucleus from affecting tissue entry. We thus identify strengthening the cortical actin cytoskeleton through Dfos as a key process allowing efficient forward movement of an immune cell into surrounding tissues

Crisis Management and Communication Strategies: RUSAL’s Case

No company is immune to crisis situations, an affirmation which, despite its triviality, is undeniably true. However, from the early 2014, such statement may have become even more true to Russian corporations, as the annexation of the Crimean Peninsula gave start to rounds of economic sanctions that are still perpetrated today. Such measures, which were initiated in response to the Kremlin’s political maneuvers, have hit a number of Russian companies, and increased the degree of uncertainty in which they have to operate, as they see economic restriction’s impact not only on the business activity tangible factors—i.e., economic rewards, service, and performance—but also on intangible factors—i.e., image and reputation—as well. Crises are integral parts of all world systems, unfortunately. While they are a theoretically well-understood issue, in practice, crises are perceived as a very painful phenomenon. A crisis can be compared to riding a roller coaster. First, as we gain speed and climb up the tracks we are filled with a sense of joy and delight. These feelings are quickly replaced with anticipation, panic, and fear as the roller coaster plunges into the “abyss.

Approaches to Analysis of Interstate Cooperation

At the present day cultural diplomacy plays a rather important role in the development of international relations and world politics. This concept is receiving increasing attention from various countries, international and non-governmental organizations and other actors. This trend exists due to a number of reasons, such as the desire of states to create a positive image of their country, the expansion of international cooperation, changes in the global and domestic political situation, the protection of national interests, the prevention of conflicts between states, etc. Cultural diplomacy, beyond historical precedents, consists of a relatively new practice of a country’s foreign policy, which has traditionally focused on trade and security and defense issues. It is true that in European countries there are institutions of cultural foreign relations since the beginning of the century, but in the last decade the issues, related to the projection of the international image of countries, have become more important

For species to stay temporally tuned to their environment, they use cues such as the accumulation of degree-days. The relationships between the timing of a phenological event in a population and its environmental cue can be described by a population-level reaction norm. Variation in reaction norms along environmental gradients may either intensify the envi- ronmental effects on timing (cogradient variation) or attenu- ate the effects (countergradient variation). To resolve spatial and seasonal variation in species’ response, we use a unique dataset of 91 taxa and 178 phenological events observed across a network of 472 monitoring sites, spread across the nations of the former Soviet Union. We show that compared to local rates of advancement of phenological events with the advancement of temperature-related cues (i.e., variation within site over years), spatial variation in reaction normsPeer reviewe

The current development of medicine and the results of recent large-scale academic research in pediatrics provide the convincing conclusions that the formation of human health begins in the antenatal period of ontogenesis and continues throughout the infancy. The ideas and subsequent academic research on the influence of nutrition during the first thousand days of life on the programming of metabolism and the development of some chronic somatic diseases such as obesity, hypertension, coronary heart disease have become widespread. In addition, at the same period of life immune abnormalities with a predominance of one of the subpopulations, Th1 or Th2, can possibly form in children at risk of developing allergies when immune response is developing. The predominance of the Th2 cytokine profile (hyperproduction of interleukins 4, 5, 13, etc.) suggests the possibility of stable formation of the atopic status in a child afterwards. Consequently, the application of academic knowledge on the health status programming by nutrition during early ontogenesis is an important tool in preventive pediatric practice. В.
