Four models and a challenge: past, present, and future of translator training programs in Argentina
Argentina has a long-standing tradition in translation training. This article has two purposes. On the one hand, it seeks to describe four translation training models prevailing in Argentinean universities, especially at Comahue, CĂłrdoba and La Plata universities. The application of such models will be discussed in relation to the foreign-language training of students prior to and throughout undergraduate education. On the other hand, I will present a translation training model with a view to develop research skills in students, which might foster undergraduate education in research. The urgency to build up a research competence in students is backed up by the fact that Translation Studies is at present a vacant research area in the country.Fil: Arrizabalaga, Maria Ines.
Se trata de las producciones independientes The Hunt for Gollum, Born of Hope, Sons of Elrond, Halifirien y el corto, parĂłdico y procaz How “The Lord of the Rings” Should Have Ended. Coined by the semiotician and culturologist Jurij Lotman, a semiosphere can be defined as a place where meaning production processes are systemically related. Within a semiosphere, peripheral codes can be found – which Lotman called catalizers – speeding up processes and thus generating new readings and text interpretations with relatively stable meanings. In the Theory of Self-Organized Criticality there are leveling figurations – namely, strange attractors – which account for the outward movement of central forces. Peter Jackson’s film trilogy The Lord of the Rings [TLOR], based on J. R. R. Tolkien’s homonymous novels, has preceded several films in the wake of TLOR. These independent productions are The Hunt for Gollum, Born of Hope, Sons of Elrond, Halifirien and the parodical and provoking How “The Lord of the Rings” Should Have Ended. This videotext production – prone to be confronted to fandom literary composition – results from midrashic reading, i.e. from the revision of a previous videotext unchaining glossed meanings and marginalia, quite against the monolithic order set by Jackson’s trilogy. A brief description of the plot in the four films and the clip links them from the periphery to Jackson’s trilogy, and reinforces the centraldominance of this filmmaker’s work in the semiosphere of J. R. R. Tolkien’s novels in videotext format. Going back to the semiosphere and the tension between a stable center, and fugues and discontinuities, the fandom “programming modes” – opening up the doors to the production, circulation and consume of the videotexts created in the wake of Jackson’s trilogy – can be compared to strange attractors, points ofattractions towards which central codes move in order to become strange and unautomated, and generate new readings. Consequently, fanfiction, fansub and scanlationalocodes are superimposed on the reading modes of central and naturalized codes in the semiosphere.Fil: Arrizabalaga, Maria Ines.
This paper examines the uses that Juan Huarte de San Juan made of the Bible in the Examen de ingenios para las ciencias (The Examination of Men’s Wits, Baeza, 1575 and 1594). After a brief summary of Huarte’s education, firstly in Baeza, where he became a bachelor of arts, and, subsequently, in Alcalá, where he received the doctorate in medicine, the study focuses on his use of the Pentateuch to support his thesis —based on Galen’s humour theory of temperament— of the natural excellence of the Jews for the practice of medicine. The second part of the article deals with Pauline spirituality in the author of Examen de ingenios para las ciencias. In Huarte’s discourse, this spirituality becomes a theoretical tool to formulate a powerful attack on plans for the social exclusion of new Christians, in line with a Christian tradition of critical thinking that had been very much alive in the Iberian world since the fifteenth century.
High school students usually present misconceptions related with the dimensions and pro-portions of the Univers and celestials bodies. Active methodologies (as project work) repre-sent an opportunity to put these misconceptions in a situation of a cognitive conflict. In this article, it has been described two interdisciplinary experiences of project work about the constellations and the Solar system. The experiences have been developed as a quarterly project with the collaboration of Natural Science Museum of Granollers, and as a result it has been done an exhibition open to the public about students' productions in a room of the museum as a urban model. The results of the applications have been described together with an assessment to guide the development of quarterly projects

A Preliminary Habitat Suitability Model for Devil Rays in the Western Indian Ocean
The European tropical tuna purse seine fishery incidentally captures three highly migratory and endangered species of devil rays, spinetail devil ray Mobula mobular, sicklefin devil ray M. tarapacana, and bentfin devil ray M. thurstoni in the Indian Ocean. Due to their global decreasing populations, understanding the factors of their spatial and temporal distributions and the associated environmental conditions are fundamental for their management and conservation. Yet, the spatial and temporal distribution of devil rays in the Indian Ocean is poorly understood. Here we developed a habitat suitability model for devil rays in the Western Indian Ocean depicting the seasonal and interannual changes in their spatial distributions and underlying environmental conditions. We used bycatch data collected between the period 2010-2020 by the EU tropical tuna purse seine observer programs to determine which environmental variables influence the occurrence of devil rays using generalized additive models. A separate modelling was done for the spinetail devil ray, and for the three species of devil rays combined, since many individuals are only recorded at the genus level. The environmental variables associated with the presence of devil rays were chlorophyll, sea surface height and sea surface temperature fronts. When modelling the habitat suitability for spinetail devil ray, the most influential environmental variables were
net primary production of phytoplankton and sea surface temperature fronts. Both the interannual and seasonal variability in habitat suitability of devil rays were explained by these environmental variables. We also showed that devil rays are associated to permanent hotspots in the Mascarene Plateau and Central Indian Ridge, and to seasonal hotspots in the Western Arabian Sea and Equatorial regions where there is a high occurrence of devil rays during winter monsoon. We found that setting on large tuna schools decreases the chances of devil ray bycatch. Both models predicted a higher probability of incidental catch of devil rays in fishing sets on free swimming schools of tunas than in sets on fish aggregating devices. The identified hotspots and associated environmental characteristics provide information about the habitat use and ecology of the devil rays in the Western Indian Ocean. Furthermore, the habitat suitability models, and biological hotspots identified in this study could also to be used to inform the development of future spatial management measures, including time-area closures, to minimize the interaction of pelagic fisheries with these vulnerable species
Circulating concentrations of free triiodothyronine are associated with central adiposity and cardiometabolic risk factors in young euthyroid adults

However, this relationship remains
unclear in young euthyroid adults. The present work examines the associations of circulating thyroid hormones (THs) and
thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) concentrations with body composition and cardiometabolic risk factors in young euthyroid
adults. A total of 106 sedentary, euthyroid adults (72 women; 22 ± 2 years old) participated in this cross-sectional study. THs
and TSH serum concentrations were determined in fasting conditions (6 h). Body composition (fat mass (FM), lean mass (LM),
and visceral adipose tissue (VAT)) was determined by dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry, anthropometric parameters (weight,
height, and waist circumference) were measured, and neck adipose tissue mass was quantified through computed tomography
(CT) scanning. Cardiometabolic risk factors including fasting glucose and lipid metabolism markers, hepatic phosphatase and
transaminases, and blood pressure were also assessed. Free triiodothyronine (FT3) concentration was positively associated with
body mass index, LM, VAT, and waist circumference (all P ≤ 0.038). FT3 was also associated with glucose, insulin, HOMA-IR,
fatty liver index, and blood pressure (all P < 0.024). All the associations were attenuated when adjusting for sex. In contrast,
we found no associations of TSH or free thyroxine with any body composition parameter or cardiometabolic risk factors. In
conclusion, FT3 is associated with central adiposity and cardiometabolic risk factors including insulin resistance, fatty liver
index, and mean, systolic and diastolic blood pressure in young euthyroid adults.
