    This paper discusses the new articulation forms which were established between the agricultural and urban sectors due to the consolidation of the Brazilian agroindustrial complex in the end of the 1970’s. The following topics are highlighted in this discussion: a) the growing dependence that agriculture sector has on the urban sector as a consumer of goods and services; b) the transformation of a substantial part of agricultural output in raw material for urban industries; c) the oligopolistic and oligopsonic features of these commercial relationships; d) the integration of capitals and formation of great economic conglomerates; c) the ongoing globalization process. In such scenery, different social actors are identified as well as their differential capacity to influence the decision-making process inside the chains and in the ambit of the State. It also outlines the actors’ organizational capacity which is represented by collective actions, managerial efficiency, administrative professionalization, "systemic knowledge" and technological domain. The central question of this paper refers to the role that the agricultural cooperatives and other associativist forms can play as negotiation means inside and outside the productive chains, elevating farmers’ bargaining and claiming power. To answer this question several researches undertaken over the last two decades were examined. The most recent studies detect an effort to modernize cooperative management by turning them into more competitive organizations. However, this effort is sometimes interrupted by the process of manager’s succession. Interference of local political interests identified in the studies carried out in the 1980’s was also detected in the most recent researches and it is considered as one of the factors that limit the administrative dynamism of cooperatives. Although farmer associations are seen as an alternative means for family producers to adapt to the ongoing economic and social changes, the examined studies showed that as the business of those associations grow, managerial problems simultaneously rise.agoindustrial complex, productive chain, cooperative, social actors, interest articulation.,

    Sleep disorders frequency in post-polio syndrome patients caused by periodic limb movements

    Post-polio syndrome (PPS) in individuals with polio longer than 15 years is characterized by weakness and/or muscle fatigue, deficit of deglutition and breath and periodic limb movements (PLM) during sleep. We undertook a review of 99 patients with PPS, and assessed the frequency of PLM through polysomnographic recordings at our sleep disorders unit. the total number of PLK total time of sleep (TTS), efficiency of sleep (EfS), awaking index (AI) and apnea-hypopnea index (AHI) were analyzed. Sixteen patients presented PLM in excess of 5 for the entire night. When comparing these with the group without PLM, a correlation was found (p=0.001). Significant difference was found for the correlation of the parameters: IAH, ID, TTS and EfS when compared the two groups.     O artigo apresenta o resultado da pesquisa “Saúde mental do estudante de Psicologia: possíveis implicações para sua atuação profissional”, que foi apoiada pelo Programa Pesquisa Produtividade, da Universidade Estácio de Sá. O objetivo foi verificar se as vivências acadêmicas do estudante de Psicologia da Universidade Estácio de Sá, campus Nova Iguaçu, que está em contato com o sofrimento psíquico e conteúdos acadêmicos relacionados a subjetividade humana, afetam sua saúde mental gerando transtornos mentais menores; e como isso pode, potencialmente, trazer implicações para a prática profissional do psicólogo. Trinta e sete estudantes do curso de Psicologia (1º e 10º períodos), foram submetidos à Entrevista Clínica Estruturada para os Transtornos do DSM-5 (SCID-5) para verificação do objetivo. A conclusão indica que os estudantes de primeiro período referem como maior dificuldade associada à graduação, o manejo de tempo para as demandas do curso e outras demandas pessoais, como trabalho e vida social. Já nos estudantes de décimo período são recorrentes as falas de cansaço e a preocupação com o mercado de trabalho. Os resultados sugerem que há um impacto da rotina da faculdade na vida dos estudantes.El artículo presenta el resultado de la investigación “Salud mental de los estudiantes de psicología: posibles implicaciones para su desempeño profesional”, que fue apoyada por el Programa de Investigación de Productividad, de la Universidad Estácio de Sá. El objetivo fue verificar si las experiencias académicas del estudiante de Psicología en la Universidad Estácio de Sá, en el campus de Nova Iguaçu, que está en contacto con la angustia psicológica y los contenidos académicos relacionados con la subjetividad humana, afectan su salud mental generando trastornos mentales menores; y cómo esto puede potencialmente tener implicaciones para la práctica profesional del psicólogo. Treinta y siete estudiantes de psicología (1º y 10º períodos) se sometieron a la entrevista clínica estructurada para trastornos del DSM-5 (SCID-5) para verificar el objetivo. La conclusión indica que los estudiantes de primer año informan la mayor dificultad asociada con la graduación, la administración del tiempo para las demandas del curso y otras demandas personales, como el trabajo y la vida social. En el décimo período, los estudiantes experimentan un cansancio y una preocupación recurrentes por el mercado laboral. Los resultados sugieren que hay un impacto de la rutina universitaria en la vida de los estudiantes.The article presents the result of the research “Psychology student mental health: possible implications for their professional performance”, which was supported by the Productivity Research Program, from Estácio de Sá University. The aim was to examine if the academic experiences of the Psychology student at Estácio de Sá University, Nova Iguaçu campus, which is in contact with psychological distress and academic contents related to human subjectivity, affect their mental health generating minor mental disorders; and how this can potentially have implications for the psychologist's professional practice. Thirty-seven Psychology students (1st and 10th periods) underwent the Structured Clinical Interview for DSM-5 Disorders (SCID-5) to verify the objective. The conclusion indicates that first-year students report the greatest difficulty associated with graduation, time management for the demands of the course and other personal demands, such as work and social life. In the tenth period students, there are recurrent tiredness and concern about the job market. The results suggest that there is an impact of college routine on students' lives.L'article présente le résultat de la recherche «Santé mentale des étudiants en psychologie: implications possibles pour leur performance professionnelle», soutenue par le programme de recherche sur la productivité de l'Université Estácio de Sá. L’objectif était de vérifier si les expériences académiques de l’étudiant en psychologie de l’Université Estácio de Sá, sur le campus de Nova Iguaçu, en contact avec la détresse psychologique et les contenus académiques liés à la subjectivité humaine avaient une incidence sur leur santé mentale, générant des troubles mentaux mineurs; et comment cela peut potentiellement avoir des implications pour la pratique professionnelle du psychologue. Trente-sept étudiants en psychologie (1ère et 10ème périodes) ont subi un entretien clinique structuré pour les troubles du DSM-5 (SCID-5) afin de vérifier l'objectif. La conclusion indique que les étudiants de première année signalent la plus grande difficulté associée à l’obtention du diplôme, à la gestion du temps imputable aux exigences du cours et à d’autres exigences personnelles, telles que le travail et la vie sociale.     Influence of chest wall on lung mechanics during inspiration.

    RATIONALE: The interaction between lungs and chest wall influences lung volume, that determines lung history during respiration cycle. In this study, the influence of chest wall mechanics on respiratory system is assessed by the evaluation of inspiration pressure-volume curve (PV curve) under three different situations: closed-chest, open-chest and isolated lung. The PV curve parameters in each situation allow us to further understand the role played by different chest wall elements in the respiratory function. Methods: Twenty-four male Wistar rats (236 ± 29 g) were used. The animals were weighted and then anesthetized with xylazine 2% (0,5mL/kg) and ketamine 10% (0,9mL/kg), exsanguinated and later tracheostomized with a\ud metallic cannula (14 gauge). The cannula was connected to an automatic small animal insufflator. This setup was connected to a pressure transducer (32 samples/s). The 24 animals were randomly separated in three groups: (i) closed chest, (ii) open chest and (iii) isolated lung. The rats were insufflated with 20mL quasi-statically (constant speed of 0,1mL/s). Insufflated volume and measured pressure data were kept and PV curves were obtained for all animals. The PV curves were fitted (non-linear least squares) against the sigmoid equation (1) to obtain the sigmoid equation parameters (a,b,c,d). Elastance measurements were obtained from linear regression of pressure/volume measurements in a 0,8s interval before and after the calculated point. Results: The parameters a, b and c showed no significant change, but the parameter d showed a significant variation among the three groups. The initial elastance also varied between open and closed chest, indicating the need of a higher pressure for the lung expansion, as can be seen in Table 1. The similar initial elastance for the isolated lung and closed chest may be explained by the specific method used for the isolated lung experiment. As the isolated lung is supported by the trachea vertically, the weight of the tissue may have a similar effect of the residual negative pressure in the thorax, responsible for maintaining the residual volume.CNPqFAPES

    The Prevalence of Sarcopenia in the Elderly: How the Consumption of Protein Supplement Interacts in Individuals of a Fortaleza Institution

    Introduction: Sarcopenia is a natural disturb that usually affects older people consisting in strength and muscle mass loss. Sedentary lifestyle and nutritional habits are some inducing factors. Supplementation may contribute to improvements on life quality in elders predisposed to sarcopenia. Objectives: verify the relevance of protein supplementation on life quality of elders predisposed to sarcopenia. Assess the individual's evolution along the study. Methods: protein supplementation application during 45 days on 13 elders, comparing them with 13 elders in control group without supplementation. Anthropometric measurements were performed before and after the 45 days period and evaluated for each participant, as well as their nutrition, individually. Results: We observed a improvement in some anthropometric measures, and a reduction in others, that might be explained by previous pathologies already diagnosed. Muscle mass changes were positive, according with specific reference measures. Some elders reported motor strength improvements, disposition and energy. Physical active participants showed more significant results and sedentary ones. Conclusion: positive outcomes were obtained from protein supplementation in older people, and more correlated studies are still necessary, considering the field's relevancy to longevity and overall life quality

    Prevenção e Controle da Covid-19 em Instituições de Longa Permanência

    Objective: list guidelines and recommendations for the prevention and control of COVID-19 in Long Term Care Institutions for the Elderly. Method: This is a letter to the director that summarizes the main guidelines about the prevention and control of COVID-19 in Long Term Care Institutions for the elderly made a available in documents from Brazilian federal agencies. Results: It is recommended in all institutions to perform the situational diagnosis, suspension of external visits, multidimensional assessmente of residentes and adoption of preventive health practices such as physical exercise and healthy eating with the minimum distance between the elderly. In addition, individual, collective, environmental and material and foof hygiene measures stand out, with surveillance and early detection of signs and symptoms suggestive of the disease, with hospital admission justified in the presence of clinical signs of severity. In addition, the importance of engaging residents and family members in detecting the risks of spreading the disease and in prevention strategies is reinforced, aiming to optimiza the culture of safety and training residents and family members in ensuring safe and quality care. Conclusion: The dissemination of secure information and directives is essential in preventing the dissemination of Covid-19 in Long Term Institutions for maintaining the health and weel-being of the elderly and their caregivers. Además, se destacan las medidas individuales, colectivas, ambientales y de higiene de los materiales y alimentos, con vigilancia y detección temprana de signos y síntomas sugestivos de la enfermedad, con el ingreso hospitalario justificado en presencia de signos clínicos de gravedad. Además, se refuerza la importancia de involucrar a los residentes y familiares en la detección de los riesgos de propagación de la enfermedad y en las estrategias de prevención, con el objetivo de optimizar la cultura de seguridad y capacitar a los residentes y miembros de la familia para garantizar una atención segura y de calidad.     EFEITOS DA INCLUSÃO DA LEVEDURA SECA ( SACCHAROMYCES CEREVISIAE) SOBRE A CARCAÇA E NA COMPOSIÇÃO DA CARNE DE COELHOS

    O presente trabalho foi realizado no Setor de Cunicultura, do Departamento de Zootecnia, da Universidade Federal da Paraíba, em Areia, com o objetivo de verificar os efeitos da inclusão da levedura seca (Saccharomyces cerevisiae) sobre a qualidade da carcaça e na composição da carne de coelhos. Alimentaram-se os animais com níveis de inclusão de 0%, 6%, 12% e 18% de levedura seca (Saccharomyces cerevisiae). Utilizaramse coelhos da raça Nova Zelândia branca, sendo dezesseis machos e dezesseis fêmeas. O delineamento experimental foi o inteiramente casualizado, com quatro tratamentos e oito repetições. Ao término do experimento, os animais foram pesados e abatidos para avaliação das seguintes características: peso da carcaça (PC), peso da pele (PP), peso da cabeça (PCb), peso da coxa (PCx), peso do lombo (PL), peso do tórax (PT), peso das patas (Ppa) e rendimento da carcaça (RC). Das partes viscerais, pesaram-se: estômago, intestino, pulmão, coração, fígado, rins e o baço. Pela análise de variância não houve efeito significativo (P>0,05) entre as variáveis estudadas. Portanto, a inclusão da levedura seca não afetou as características estudadas da carcaça, apresentando diferença para as vísceras: pulmão, intestino, coração e fígado. Retiradas amostras de carne da coxa dos coelhos para a análise da sua composição centesimal – proteína, gordura, cinzas e umidade – verificaram-se efeitos significativos (P < 0,05), nos níveis de inclusão da levedura seca na dieta dos coelhos, para todas as variáveis estudadas. Concluiu-se que a inclusão de levedura seca (Saccharomyces cerevisiae) na ração não afetou o rendimento da carcaça e dos cortes. Com a inclusão de 18% de levedura seca (Saccharomyces cerevisiae) na dieta dos coelhos, houve uma melhora na composição da carne, principalmente por aumentar o conteúdo da proteína.
