    Approximate estimates of orbit transfer cost for efficient mission analysis and design

    Symbolic Regression is investigated as a tool for identifying analytical expressions which provide an estimate of orbit transfer cost, evaluated in terms of required veloc- ity increment, as a function of initial and target orbit geometry. Different approaches are considered to identify the best approach to sample the problem parameter space and the algorithm which performs better, in the framework of Genetic Programming. Each resulting method is tested for five different orbit transfer geometries between coplanar circular and elliptical orbits. Results demonstrate the viability of the ap- proach, although when the number of problem parameter increases, computational cost becomes sizeable. Also, local minima may be filtered by the regression

    Biodiversity of the upper deltaic complex of the Paraná River

    En este trabajo se analiza la riqueza y distribución de la flora vascular y fauna de vertebrados de la región superior del Complejo Deltaico del Río Paraná. Se provee un listado detallado de especies por grupo taxonómico y se realiza un análisis de las mismas, considerando su distribución, status de conservación y se compara con las riquezas de las provincias aledañas (Santa Fe y Entre Ríos). Se mencionan 456 especies de plantas, 9 de las cuales son endémicas para la argentina y 41 son exóticas. Las aves están representadas por 253 especies reunidas en 48 familias que constituyen el 25 % de las aves argentinas. La herpetofauna está constituida por 77 especies, de las cuales 30 corresponden a anfibios y 47 a reptiles; 14 de estas especies poseen un status de vulnerables. Se registraron 197 especies de peces, siendo los Siluriformes y los Characiformes los grupos mejor representados; 55 especies poseen estatus de vulnerables, raras o insuficientemente conocidas. Entre los mamíferos, se registraron 35 especies, 6 de las cuales son introducidas para su uso productivo. Se menciona la presencia de animales domésticos asilvestrados. Del análisis de distribución biogeográfica a lo largo del corredor del río Paraná se aprecia un patrón de riqueza intermedia a baja para la región. Si bien existen estudios realizados desde hace varios años, prácticamente no existen listados específicos intensivos; sobre todo destacamos la baja representatividad de las riquezas reportadas en dichos trabajos. Si bien esta situación puede estar asociada al esfuerzo de muestreo o a los objetivos de cada trabajo especifico, no deja de llamar la atención que los estudios realizados a varios grupos taxonómicos solo representan la mitad de lo aquí reportado como riqueza.Vascular flora and vertebrate fauna of the Paraná River Complex is analyzed from the species richness and distribution. Detailed list of species is provided for each taxonomic group, and an analysis of distribution and conservation status is done, comparing richness values in neighboring provinces (Santa Fe and Entre Ríos). 456 vascular plants are mentioned, 9 endemic for Argentina and 41 exotics. Birds are represented with 253 species of 48 families, which constitute 25 % of Argentinean ornitofauna. Herpetofauna has 77 species, 30 of them correspond to amphibians and 47 of reptiles; 14 have a status of vulnerable, rare, or insufficiently known. Between mammals, 35 species were registered, including 6 introduced for productive proposes. We mention the presence of feral fauna, coming from domestic introductions. In the analysis of the distribution, we appreciate that this area has an intermediate to low richness pattern. Even many studies have been done in this region, it’s difficult to find complete list of species, and we pointed out that some list presented for the area (papers with different objectives), present a low number of species comparing with this presented here.Fil: Aceñolaza, Pablo Gilberto.     Divide and Conquer: Crowdsourcing the Creation of Cross-Lingual Textual Entailment Corpora.

    We address the creation of cross-lingual tex- tual entailment corpora by means of crowdsourcing. Our goal is to define a cheap and replicable data collection methodology that minimizes the manual work done by expert annotators, without resorting to preprocessing tools or already annotated monolingual datasets. In line with recent works empha- sizing the need of large-scale annotation efforts for textual entailment, our work aims to: i) tackle the scarcity of data available to train and evaluate systems, and ii) promote the re- course to crowdsourcing as an effective way to reduce the costs of data collection without sacrificing quality. We show that a complex data creation task, for which even experts usually feature low agreement scores, can be effectively decomposed into simple subtasks as- signed to non-expert annotators. The resulting dataset, obtained from a pipeline of different jobs routed to Amazon Mechanical Turk, contains more than 1,600 aligned pairs for each combination of texts-hypotheses in English, Italian and German

    Research data communication strategy at the time of pandemics: a retrospective analysis of the Italian experience.

    Coronavirus pandemic has radically changed the scientific world. During these difficult times, standard peer-review processes could be too long for the continuously evolving knowledge about this disease. We wanted to assess whether the use of other types of network could be a faster way to disseminate the knowledge about Coronavirus disease. We retrospectively analyzed the data flow among three distinct groups of networks during the first three months of the pandemic: PubMed, preprint repositories (biorXiv and arXiv) and social media in Italy (Facebook and Twitter). The results show a significant difference in the number of original research articles published by PubMed and preprint repositories. On social media, we observed an incredible number of physicians participating to the discussion, both on three distinct Italian-speaking Facebook groups and on Twitter. The standard scientific process of publishing articles (i.e., the peer-review process) remains the best way to get access to high-quality research. Nonetheless, this process may be too long during an emergency like a pandemic. The thoughtful use of other types of network, such as preprint repositories and social media, could be taken into consideration in order to improve the clinical management of COVID-19 patients

    Acute Effect of Different Duration of Foam Rolling Protocols on Muscle Thickness, Pain Pressure Threshold, and Volume Load on Multiple Sets of Knee Extension

    International Journal of Exercise Science 14(3): 742-755, 2021. Previous studies investigated the effects of foam rolling (FR) on measurements of strength and power. However, the acute effect of FR on muscle thickness (MT) and pressure pain threshold (PPT) after multiple sets of resistance exercise remains to be elucidated. The aim of the present study was to examine the effect of one and three minutes of quadriceps FR on muscle thickness (vastus lateralis [VL] and rectus femoris [RF]), pain threshold (VL and RF), and total load lifted (TLL) on multiple sets of knee extension. Nine resistance-trained men (age: 24.8 ± 5.2 years; height: 177 ± 7 cm; total body mass 77.7 ± 6.2 kg) participated the study. MT, PPT, and performance on multiple sets of knee extension were compared after performing passive recovery (CON), one minute (FR1), or three minutes of FR (FR3). A similar total training load among experimental conditions was observed. There was a greater increase on VL muscle thickness after FR3 when compared to CON and FR1. In addition, there was an increase on rectus femoris PPT two minutes post FR3, with no differences between conditions. These results indicate that longer duration FR-protocol may acutely increase muscle thickness of the vastus lateralis muscle without negatively affect the TLL and PTT

    The Italian version of the Depressive Experiences Questionnaire: psychometric properties and validation in students, community, and clinical groups

    The current study evaluated the psychometric properties of the Italian validation of the Depressive Experiences Questionnaire (DEQ), conceived as a measure of self-criticism and dependency, i.e. two personality factors acting, according to Blatt (2004), as risk factors for depression in particular and psychopathology in general. A series of standardized measures [Beck Depression Inventory-II (BDI-II), DEQ, Symptom Checklist-90-R (SCL-90-R), Millon Clinical Multiaxial Inventory, 3rd edition (MCMI-III)] was administered to three samples (i.e., students, community and clinical). Factorial validity was evaluated along with convergent and predictive validity. In order to evaluate the reliability and internal consistency, a specific subgroup of participants was retested on the DEQ and BDI-II. Results showed correlations between DEQ dimensions and some personality traits of the MCMI-III. The traditional three-factor model of the DEQ structure as identified by principal component analysis appears to be as stable factors as typically found in American samples, although some items showed elevated cross-loading or low loadings on any factor. Clinical and diagnostic implications of the findings will be discussed

    Atualizações sobre os princípios de reconstrução de queimaduras da face: Updates on the principles of face burns reconstruction

    Os objetivos da cirurgia reconstrutiva para o paciente queimado são, primeiro, restaurar a função e, em seguida, restaurar a aparência estética, após a ressuscitação e estabilização, o tratamento das queimaduras torna-se a próxima prioridade. Os efeitos posteriores das queimaduras, que estão relacionados à perda de tecido normal e cicatrizes, incluem limitação de movimento, dor, desfiguração e constrangimento social. O tipo de procedimento de reconstrução selecionado depende da localização da queimadura, da extensão da lesão e da disponibilidade de pele e tecido do doador. A cicatrização cutânea após a queimadura dá origem à morbidade física e psicossocial característica pós-queimadura, a modulação da cicatriz da queimadura usando técnicas físicas e cirúrgicas, incluindo terapia de pressão, massagem, exercício, esteróides intralesionais, terapia a laser e transferência de gordura autóloga têm sido usadas para modular a cicatriz de queimadura hipertrófica. A terapia com laser e luz intensa pulsada tornou-se uma ferramenta valiosa na modulação da cicatriz, diminuindo o eritema cicatricial, reduzindo a espessura, aumentando a flexibilidade, reduzindo a dor e o prurido e melhorando a cor e a textura da cicatriz. A transferência de gordura autóloga também melhora a flexibilidade da cicatriz da queimadura e a aparência objetiva, também pode ser útil para gerenciar defeitos e irregularidades de contorno
