Synthesis and characterization of Rh/MnO2-CeO2/Al2O3 catalysts for CO-PrOx reaction

    Get PDF
Rh/MnO2-CeO2/Al2O3 catalysts with different manganese-to-ceria ratios have been synthesized, characterized and tested in CO-PrOx reaction. The physicochemical properties of the solids were studied by XRD, Raman spectroscopy, BET surface area, H2-TPR, TGA-DTG and TEM. The differences observed in the textural, structural and redox properties were related to the Mn-to-ceria ratio of the samples. The segregation of Mn species was observed at high Mn-to-Ce ratios. In opposite way, MnO2-CeO2 solid solutions were obtained at low Mn to Ce ones. In this last case, the physicochemical properties of the solids were favored by the intimate Rh-Ce-Mn contact. The effect of the Mn-Ce presence on Rh catalysts which promotes the catalytic behavior towards selective CO oxidation was observed to be better at low temperatures. At higher temperatures, Mn species promote the Reverse Water Gas Shift reaction, whilst ceria promotes the H2 oxidation in the whole range of working temperatures.España Mineco (ENE2012- 37431-C03-03FEDER Junta de Andalucía TEP-819

The current article deals with the methodological approach that must be considered in order to develop object-based responses within the context of emergency housing. The user-focused design is an approach that involves the final user in the project decisions from the outset of the design process. The application of this methodology not only permits the identification of basic needs but also demonstrates other requirements for habitation related to more complex needs, which cannot be fulfilled without considering every aspect of the individual inhabitant (physical, psychological, emotional and cultural) in the planning of possible solutions. Here, the methodological approach and its implementation in the educational context is presented, as well as the factors to be considered when designing solutions that satisfy people’s needs and requirements to improve their living conditions in an emergency situation.El presente artículo trata sobre el enfoque metodológico que hay que considerar para el desarrollo de implementación objetual en el contexto de viviendas de emergencias. OPA1 Disease-Causing Mutants Have Domain-Specific Effects on Mitochondrial Ultrastructure and Fusion

Inner mitochondrial membrane fusion and cristae shape depend on optic atrophy protein 1, OPA1. Mutations in OPA1 lead to autosomal dominant optic atrophy (ADOA), an important cause of inherited blindness. The Guanosin Triphosphatase (GTPase) and GTPase effector domains (GEDs) of OPA1 are essential for mitochondrial fusion; yet, their specific roles remain elusive. Intriguingly, patients carrying OPA1 GTPase mutations have a higher risk of developing more severe multisystemic symptoms in addition to optic atrophy, suggesting pathogenic contributions for the GTPase and GED domains, respectively. We studied OPA1 GTPase and GED mutations to understand their domain-specific contribution to protein function by analyzing patient-derived cells and gain-of-function paradigms. Mitochondria from OPA1 GTPase (c.870+5G\u3eA and c.889C\u3eT) and GED (c.2713C\u3eT and c.2818+5G\u3eA) mutants display distinct aberrant cristae ultrastructure. While all OPA1 mutants inhibited mitochondrial fusion, some GTPase mutants resulted in elongated mitochondria, suggesting fission inhibition. We show that the GED is dispensable for fusion and OPA1 oligomer formation but necessary for GTPase activity. Finally, splicing defect mutants displayed a posttranslational haploinsufficiency-like phenotype but retained domain-specific dysfunctions. Thus, OPA1 domain-specific mutants result in distinct impairments in mitochondrial dynamics, providing insight into OPA1 function and its contribution to ADOA pathogenesis and severity

a b s t r a c t Isobaric vapor-liquid equilibrium (VLE) data have been measured for the binary system 2,2 -oxybis[propane] + 2,5-Dimethylfuran at 50, 75, and 94 kPa and over the temperature range 321-364 K using a vapor-liquid equilibrium still with circulation of both phases. Atmospheric surface tension (ST) data have been also determined at 283.15 and 330.15 K using a maximum bubble pressure tensiometer. Experimental results show that the mixture is zeotropic and exhibits slight positive deviation from ideal behavior over the experimental range. Surface tensions, in turn, exhibit negative deviation from the linear behavior. For each isothermal condition, it is observed that the surface tension decreases as the mole fraction of 2,2 -oxybis[propane] increases, whereas at a fixed mole fraction, the surface tension decreases as the temperature increases. The VLE data of the binary mixture satisfy the Fredenlund's consistency test, and the dependence of ST on mole fraction was satisfactorily smoothed using the Redlich-Kister equation. The experimental VLE and ST data were accurately described by applying the square gradient theory to the Cubic-Plus-Association equation of state. This theoretical model was also applied to describe the surface activity of species along the interfacial region, from which it is possible to conclude that only the 2,2 -oxybis[propane] presents an interfacial accumulation which decreases as the concentration of DIPE or temperature increases

Participants involvement in the conceptual design phase os a product. Case study of the impact of systemic methodology in a chilean SME

[EN] A case study is presented on collaborative conceptual design using a model that facilitates knowledge integration among participants (the client, user and expert). In Chile, regional small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are traditionally focused on short-term production goals, and they often approach design and product development in an intuitive and largely improvised manner. In the present study an expanded model for conceptual design proposed by Hernandis and Briede (2009) is applied to the case of one SME: a regional graphic design and product design firm. The application of the model yielded positive results in improving communication between stakeholders, shortening the time required for developing alternatives and supporting a disaggregated analysis of the design process, all of which enables management of available information.[ES] En el presente caso de estudio se aborda el diseño conceptual de manera colaborativa, a través de un modelo que guía la integración del conocimiento de los agentes implicados en un proyecto (cliente, usuario, experto).

Isobaric vapor–liquid equilibrium (VLE) data have been measured for the binary system ethanol + tetrahydro-2<i>H</i>-pyran at (50, 75, and 94) kPa and over the temperature range (331 to 358) K using a vapor–liquid equilibrium still with circulation of both phases. Mixing volumes were also determined at 298.15 K and atmospheric pressure with a vibrating tube densimeter, while a maximum differential bubble pressure tensiometer was used to measure atmospheric interfacial tensions at 303.15 K. According to experimental results, the mixture exhibits positive deviation from ideal behavior, and minimum boiling point azeotropy is present at mid-range concentrations (0.55 < <i>x</i>1Az < 0.67). VLE measurements show also that the azeotropic mole fraction impoverishes in ethanol as pressure (or temperature) increases. The mixing volumes of the mixture evolve from positive to negative deviations as the concentration of ethanol increases. Finally, it is experimentally observed that the interfacial tensions exhibit positive deviations from the linear behavior. The VLE data of the binary mixture satisfy Fredenlund's consistency test and were well-correlated by the Wohl, nonrandom two-liquid (NRTL), Wilson, and universal quasichemical (UNIQUAC) equations for all of the measured isobars. The mixing volumes and interfacial tensions, in turn, were satisfactorily correlated using the Redlich–Kister equation
