    Recent increasing urbanisation phenomena it is expected will alter the morphology and texture of wide territories leading to a strong changes in the materials, from natural to man-made, at the surface. This land-use change can strongly affects the energy partition of the solar radiation substantially increasing the intensity of the sensible heat flux (along with the anthropogenic heat contribution). The sites which present local anemological circulation, such as the breeze regimes, can result more sensible to enhanced turbulence, and environmental impacts must be taking into account when considering managing plans for residential or touristic populations

    This work deals with the comparative account and evaluation of the impact to the environment and especially with the alterations to the geomorphological structure and the hydro-geomorphological processes caused by the works for the diversion of the beds and the flow of rivers and torrents in the greater area of the "Katafourko lagoon" in Greece and of the "Venice lagoon" in Italy. Human intervention in the study areas, was of different aims in each location, but it all resulted in the alteration of the dynamic evolution of the hydro-geomorphological processes which has led to the creation of an "artificial" environment, controlled to a great extend by human power and which in turn, in the long term re-strengthens and reenforces the possibility of environmental destabilization

    The object of this study is to depict and evaluate the methods and techniques implemented or scheduled for the anti-erosion - anti-flooding protection in mountainous drainage basins in Evrytania, which exhibit intense erosion phenomena and constitute a danger of flooding for the downstream areas. Among these areas are also inhabited areas, such the town of Karpenisi, and for this reason the optimum way of management of these drainage basins constitutes an important element for the development of the town and also for the "sustainability" of the greater area (Evrytania, Greece)

    Land subsidence and degradation of the Venice littoral zone, Italy

    The Venetian lagoon coastline is constituted by a narrow strip of land, the wholeness of which is vital for the existence of the historical city of Venice and the lagoon itself. Two processes have threatened the littoral zone: the erosive action of the sea and the land subsidence. Because of its particular setting, the fretful state of the littoral zone, is revealed by the negative evolution of the near-shore bottom slope. Five bathymetric surveys carried out in 1954, 1968, 1982, 1988 and 1992 are compared and the phenomenon of land subsidence is then analysed. Although the latter is not the primary cause of the increase in the bottom slope that has occurred, a certain correlation exists between the two processes. One may say that even a few centimetres of ground surface lowering may actually contribute to the destabilization of the littoral zone. Defence works are being undertaken
