Algunas reflexiones críticas sobre la pensión de viudedad de las parejas de hecho

    Get PDF

The genes encoding Arabidopsis ORC subunits are E2F targets and the two ORC1 genes are differently expressed in proliferating and endoreplicating cells

Initiation of eukaryotic DNA replication depends on the function of pre-replication complexes (pre-RC), one of its key component being the six subunits origin recognition complex (ORC). In spite of a significant degree of conservation among ORC proteins from different eukaryotic sources, the regulation of their availability varies considerably in different model systems and cell types. Here, we show that the six ORC genes of Arabidopsis thaliana are regulated at the transcriptional level during cell cycle and development. We found that Arabidopsis ORC genes, except AtORC5, contain binding sites for the E2F family of transcription factors. Expression of AtORC genes containing E2F binding sites peaks at the G1/S-phase. Analysis of AtORC gene expression in plants with reduced E2F activity, obtained by expressing a dominant negative version of DP, the E2F heterodimerization partner, and with increased E2F activity, obtained by inactivation of the retinoblastoma protein, led us to conclude that all AtORC genes, except AtORC5 are E2F targets. Interestingly, Arabidopsis contains two AtORC1 (a and b) genes, highly conserved at the amino acid level but with unrelated promoter sequences. AtORC1b expression is restricted to proliferating cells. However, AtORC1a is preferentially expressed in endoreplicating cells based on our analysis in endoreplicating tissues and in a mutant with altered endocycle pattern. This suggests a differential expression of the two ORC1 genes in Arabidopsis

BackgroundDesmoid tumours (DTs) or deep fibromatosis are benign soft-tissue tumours, sometimes locally aggressive, requiring intervention on some cases. Surgery has been the gold standard, but new less invasive techniques such as percutaneous cryoablation have proved their effectiveness, reducing health resources and complications. The study aimed to compare the total cost of percutaneous cryoablation and conventional surgery for patients with extra-abdominal and/or abdominal wall DTs, candidates for local ablative treatment in Spain.MethodsA cost-analysis model was developed. An expert panel provided data about resource consumption for the percutaneous cryoablation technique and validated the epidemiology used for target population estimation. Unitary resources cost (euro 2022) derived from local cost databases. A retrospective analysis of 54 surgical cases in 3 Spanish hospitals was performed to estimate the cost of conventional surgery based on the cost of the Diagnosis-Related group (DRG) codes identified on this patient sample, weighted by each DRG proportion. The total cost for each alternative included intervention cost and complications cost, considering debridement required in 4.5% of cases with percutaneous cryoablation and minor surgery for surgical site infection in 18.0% for conventional surgery.ResultsThe total cost for percutaneous cryoablation (euro 5774.78/patient-year) was lower than the total cost for conventional surgery (euro 6780.98/patient-year), yielding cost savings up to euro 80,002 in 1 year for the entire cohort of 80 patients with DTs eligible for intervention estimated in Spain. One-way sensitivity analyses confirmed the results' robustness.ConclusionPercutaneous cryoablation versus conventional surgery would yield cost savings for the management of DT patients in Spain.Critical relevance statementThis manuscript provides insight into the economic impact derived from the savings related to the use of percutaneous cryoablation for desmoid-type tumours from the perspective of the Spanish National Healthcare System, providing useful information for the health decision-making process.Key points center dot Desmoid tumours are locally aggressive and may require local therapy.center dot Percutaneous cryoablation procedure is less invasive than the conventional surgery.center dot Cost comparison shows savings associated to percutaneous cryoablation use.Key points center dot Desmoid tumours are locally aggressive and may require local therapy.center dot Percutaneous cryoablation procedure is less invasive than the conventional surgery.center dot Cost comparison shows savings associated to percutaneous cryoablation use.Key points center dot Desmoid tumours are locally aggressive and may require local therapy.center dot Percutaneous cryoablation procedure is less invasive than the conventional surgery.center dot Cost comparison shows savings associated to percutaneous cryoablation use

[EN] This article describes the different ways in which the transversal competence "analysis and problem solving" in the Faculty of Business Administration and Management of the UPV is evaluated. The subjects of the Degree in Management and Public Administration that are the control point for the evaluation of these competencies have been selected, both level 1 (first and second year) and 2 (third and fourth year). The main advantage found is manifested in the variety of training activities that are taken into account, which allows to have a greater guarantee that the competence is acquired by the students. On the other hand, it is observed that in most subjects the evaluation criterion is associated with activities carried out in the subject and no specific tests are carried out to evaluate transversal competence.Calafat Marzal, MC.; Cabedo Mallol, V.; Castellano I Cervera, V.; Company Carretero, FJ.; Marín Sánchez, MDM.; Pérez Alonso, Y. Comparative analysis of phytotoxicity and compost quality in industrial composting facilities processing different organic wastes

    Get PDF
A comparative analysis of industrial composting facilities processing Vegetal Residues, Sewage Sludge, Municipal Solid Waste, Agri-food Waste or Olive Mill Waste was performed. The evolution of phytotoxicity during composting was analyzed by measuring the germination index. Physico-chemical parameters (pH, electrical conductivity, organic matter, reducing sugars, phenolic compounds, humic substances, soluble organic carbon, NeNH4 þ and NeNO3 - ) and heavy metals content were evaluated in final products. The material became non-phytotoxic at the cooling phase or at the end of composting in facilities processing Olive Mill Waste, Sewage Sludge, and Agri-food Waste. In facilities processing Municipal Solid Waste and Vegetal Residues, the material never lost phytotoxicity. All composts, except Municipal Solid Waste, fulfill requirements of the Spanish legislation for heavy metals content. Phytotoxicity was attributed to the high electrical conductivity and pH of the Vegetal Residues compost and heavy metal content of the Municipal Solid Waste compost. Germination index is recommended to track the performance of industrial composting. This work provides new insights for the better management of composting at the industrial scal

Industrial composting of low carbon/nitrogen ratio mixtures of agri-food waste and impact on compost quality

The agri-food waste (AW) require amendments for composting to adjust nutritional and physicochemical deficiencies. The theoretical mixtures formulation is difficult to reach on an industrial scale. The main objective of this work was to evaluate to what extent the composition of AW-based mixtures determines the quality of the final compost produced at the industrial scale. Raw materials having the same AW share characteristics, irrespectively of the amendments added, but their compost were different. All the materials were biological stable at the cooling phase, and mature enough at the end, although the degree of humification did not match with the absence of phytotoxicity. The final compost had sufficient quality even though the AW-based raw materials have a low C/N ratio (< 20) and other characteristics such as high electrical conductivity (13 mS·cm−1 ) and pH (< 8.5) that are unfavorable for composting. The management operations during industrial composting correct the deficiencies of raw materials

Integral approach using bacterial microbiome to stabilize municipal solid waste

Biological transformation of municipal solid waste is an environment-friendly management strategy against recalcitrant residues. The bacterial biome that inhabit said residues are responsible of decomposing both simple and complex materials. For this reason, processes such as composting, which favor the acceleration of the transformation of organic matter, can contribute to the degradation of municipal solid waste. Not only as mere fertilizer for crops, but also as methods for the recovery of solid waste. However, the control of the conditions necessary to achieve an optimal process on an industrial scale is a great concern. Thus, the aim of this work focuses on the characterization of the bacterial microbiome on three municipal solid waste facilities in order to deepen the role of microorganisms in the state of the final product obtained. For it, an intensive metagenomic analysis as well as a battery of physicochemical determinations were carried out. The lack of adequate thermophilic phases was decisive in finding certain bacterial genera, such as Lactobacillus, which was significant through these processes. Biodiversity did not follow a common pattern in the three processes, neither in abundance nor in richness but, in general, it was greater during the bio-oxidative stage. Despite the different trend in terms of the degradation of carbon fractions in these wastes, at the end of the biodegradation treatments, a sufficient degree of bioestabilization of the organic matter was reached. The results offer the opportunity to obtain a level of detail unprecedented of the structure, dynamics and function of the bacterial community in real conditions, without the control offered by laboratory conditions or pilot plants
