E-Democracy and Knowledge. A Multicriteria Framework for the New Democratic Era

    Get PDF
This paper analyses a new framework for decision-making in e-democracies that exploits the power of Internet based public knowledge, which is called briefly e-cognocracy. This is not a procedure to improve technical aspects using the Internet (e.g. e-voting); it is rather a procedure to add a new quality to the democratic system by using the network. This proposed system of e-cognocracy would allow those who are interested to solve highly complex problems by participatory decision-making. Furthermore, we suggest the multicriteria framework for the modelling and resolution of such complex problems. Similarly, using the analytic hierarchy process (AHP) approach, we propose decisional (analytic and informatic) tools for searching the knowledge - relevant for the decision-making process. This knowledge of patterns of behaviour, trends, opportunities, decisions and stylised facts will be the starting point of a consensus-reaching process, which is aimed to effectively solve problems of high complexity of the Internet society.E-democracy, Knowledge society, E-cognocracy, Multicriteria, AHP criterion, Consensus

On the computation of Bernstein–Sato ideals

In this paper we compare the approach of Brianc¾onand Maisonobe for computing Bernstein–Sato ideals—based on computations in a Poincar®e–Birkhoff–Witt algebra—with the readily available method of Oaku and Takayama. We show that it can deal with interesting examples that have proved intractable so far.Ministerio de Ciencia y Tecnología BFM-2001-3164Junta de Andalucía FQM-33

Explicit Comparison Theorems for D -modules

We prove in an explicit way a duality formula between two A2-modules Mlog and Mflog associated to a plane curve and we give an application of this duality to the comparison between Mflog and the A2-module of rational functions along the curve. We treat the analytic case as well

Stakeholders’ environmental influence. An empirical analysis in the Spanish hotel industry

    Get PDF
We draw on the insights of stakeholder theory to explore the extent to which environmental management practices are driven by (i) an attempt to enhance a firm’s legitimacy, and (ii) a response to pressures arising from powerful stakeholders. The material for this investigation has been gathered from a sample of 279 Spanish hotels. The hotel industry which is only marginally affected by environmental regulation and is thus a widely neglected setting in this context, could be a particularly interesting subject for investigation, able to throw some light on the extent to which firms produce different responses to the environmental concerns of their stakeholders. Our results reveal that corporate environmental management practices may be a response to genuine environmental concerns, and we then speak of explicit environmental management, or there may also be reasons different from the environmental, in which case we speak of tacit environmental management. Our findings suggest that explicit and tacit environmental management account for a variety of organizational responses to the environmental demands of stakeholders, depending on (i) the stakeholders’ power regarding environmental issues, (ii) the stakeholders’ use of power to protect the environment, and (iii) the perceived economic advantages of environmental management activities.Publicad

A New Approach for Bounding Awards in Bankruptcy Problems

    Get PDF
The solution for the "Contested Garment Problem" proposed in the BabylonicTalmud, one of the most important sources of inspiration for solving situations where demand overcomes supply of some resources, suggests that each agent should receive at least some part of the available amount when facing these situations. Thisidea has been underlied the theoretical analysis of bankruptcy problems from its beginning (O'Neill, 1982) to present day (Dominguez and Thomsom, 2006). In this context, starting from the fact that a society establishes its own set of "Commonly Accepted Equity Principles", we propose a new award bound by providing each agent her minimum amount according to all the admissible bankruptcy rules for such a society. Moreover, we analyze the recursive application of this new bound, since it will not exhaust the resources, in general.Bankruptcy problems, bankruptcy rules, lower bound, recursive process.

Characterising epithelial tissues using persistent entropy

    Get PDF
In this paper, we apply persistent entropy, a novel topological statis- tic, for characterization of images of epithelial tissues. We have found out that persistent entropy is able to summarize topological and geomet- ric information encoded by -complexes and persistent homology. After using some statistical tests, we can guarantee the existence of signi cant di erences in the studied tissues.Ministerio de EconomĂa y Competitividad MTM2015-67072-

EvaluaciĂłn de la eficiencia docente e implementaciĂłn de Prezi como herramienta audiovisual

    Get PDF
