The different accreditation processes of undergraduate degrees are the object of research due to the value of international recognition based on their accreditation. Thus, accreditation has become the preferred means of monitoring and evaluating the quality of higher education and observing universities' impact on society. The present study is part of a broader research focused on developing a doctoral thesis. It is framed in the qualitative interpretative paradigm of an emergent exploratory type. The main objective is to identify the public value generated by accreditation in the continuous improvement of undergraduate programs accredited by SINAES (an anagram of Sistema Nacional de Acreditación de la Educación Superior, National System of Higher Education Acceditation), in the field of education in Costa Rica. Five in-depth interviews were conducted to learn the perceptions of the key informants who participated in the accreditation process of the six selected degree programs. The results show the public value that accreditation produces in the continuous improvement of Education Degree Programs through ten categories that cover the achievements, benefits, results and effects of the contribution of SINAES in the continuous improvement processes of higher education. In conclusion, accreditation has become one of the determining factors when selecting an Education Degree Program in Costa Rica. The processes carried out by SINAES are perceived as legitimate and of excellence in developing these types of quality certifications.

This study aims to analyze the implications of linguistic mediation processes and educational proactivity in schools for the socio-educational adaptation of immigrant students. The study is based on empirical research and the perspectives of the main actors: the immigrant students themselves. To this end, a non-experimental and descriptive quantitative methodology was used. The sample consisted of 100 students of foreign origin enrolled in an Italian school located in a typical socio-cultural environment. The results show significant differences in linguistic mediation and socio-educational variables and differences in expectations of progress and social adaptation of students born outside Italy vis-a-vis students who, although born in Italy, are still considered foreigners. It will also analyze teaching proactivity as a communication facilitator for first-generation immigrant pupils born outside Italy. In conclusion, it is noted that, to favor multicultural environments where all students, regardless of their origin, feel accepted, integrated, and welcomed, it is necessary to utilize all available resources to promote improvements in teaching-learning processes and strengthen social relation

<br /

    Get PDF

    Get PDF
Education systems worldwide have been affected by a sudden interruption in classroom learning because the coronavirus pandemic forced both the closure of all schools in March 2020 and the beginning of distance learning from home, thus compelling families, schools, and students to work together in a more coordinated fashion. The present systematic review was carried out following PRISMA guidelines. The main objective was to present critical information on the relationship between the family and the school in the face of the imposed distance learning scenario caused by COVID-19. A total of 25 articles dealing with the relationships established during the pandemic of any of the three agents involved (family, students, and school) were analysed. The results showed that the relationships between the three groups involved must be improved to some extent to meet the needs that have arisen as a result of distance learning. In conclusion, the educational scenario during the pandemic has been one of the most significant challenges experienced in the recent history of education

Resumen de la comunicación presentada en PIC2015 – the 14th International Congress on Combustion By-Products and Their Health Effects, Umeå, Sweden, 14-17 June 2015.The aim of the present study was to assess the emission of di2erent persistent organic pollutants from a cement plant over a period of one year, under normal operating conditions. In this way, a Dioxin Monitoring System (a long-term sampling device manufactured by Monitoring Systems) was installed in the clinker kiln stack of the cement plant, located in the vicinity of the University of Alicante. The factory has a production capacity of 150 t/h of clinker and uses petroleum coke as primary fuel, but also alternative fuels such as SRF (solid recovered fuel), ASR (automotive shredder residue), sewage sludge, waste tires, and meat and bone meal wastes, with an enerKy substitution level of about 40 %. The study consisted of a total of 13 samples, namely: • Ten samples collected in 3Q4 week periods, for the determination of brominated dioxins and furans (PBDD/Fs). • Three samples collected during one-week periods, for the determination of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs).Support for this work was provided by the following projects: • Ministry of Science and Innovation (Spain): CTQ2011Q23618. • Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness (Spain): CTQ2013Q41006QR. • Valencian Community Government (Spain): PROMETEOII/2014/007

Abstract

Background

The atherogenic lipoprotein phenotype is characterized by an increase in plasma triglycerides, a decrease in high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDLc), and the prevalence of small, dense-low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDLc) particles. The aim of this study was to establish the importance of LDL particle size measurement by gender in a group of patients with Metabolic Syndrome (MS) attending at a Cardiovascular Risk Unit in Primary Care and their classification into phenotypes.

Subjects and methods

One hundred eighty-five patients (93 men and 92 women) from several areas in the South of Spain, for a period of one year in a health centre were studied. Laboratory parameters included plasma lipids, lipoproteins, low-density lipoprotein size and several atherogenic rates were determinated.

Results

We found differences by gender between anthropometric parameters, blood pressure and glucose measures by MS status. Lipid profile was different in our two study groups, and gender differences in these parameters within each group were also remarkable, in HDLc and Apo A-I values. According to LDL particle size, we found males had smaller size than females, and patients with MS had also smaller than those without MS. We observed inverse relationship between LDL particle size and triglycerides in patients with and without MS, and the same relationship between all atherogenic rates in non-MS patients. When we considered our population in two classes of phenotypes, lipid profile was worse in phenotype B.

Conclusion

In conclusion, we consider worthy the measurement of LDL particle size due to its relationship with lipid profile and cardiovascular risk.</p

As social workers in education in the province of Alicante we consider it necessary to update our roles as described in the regulations of the Regional Council of Education and Science, within the School Psychopedagogical Services and the Municipal Educational Psychopedagogical Services of the Autonomous Community of Valencia. We propose these changes because the regulations are outdated (1995), and because of the need to reflect the changing educational and social reality. In addition, the work of social workers in the educational field has changed, and social workers need their own professional profile that is differentiated from that of other professionals who work in the field of education. This document is the result of the work of a group of social workers in the educational field in the province of Alicante. It was approved by the first meeting of social workers in the educational field in the Autonomous Community of Valencia in December of 2016
