El sistema de cobro de peaje de las principales autopistas españolas únicamente posibilita que los usuarios realicen el pago de la tarifa del peaje, en el mejor de los casos ralentizando la marcha de sus vehículos, u obligándoles a parar en las playas de peaje. Este artículo hace un recorrido de los distintos sistemas de cobro de peaje existentes, analizando la perspectiva técnica y legal. Efectividad de la administración de carvedilol comparado con propanolol en el tratamiento de hipertensión portal en pacientes con cirrosis hepática del servicio de gastroenterología. Hospital nacional virgen de la puerta. distrito de la esperanza - Trujillo

En este estudio se evalúa la efectividad del uso de Carvedilol comparado con Propranolol para el tratamiento de la hipertensión portal en pacientes con cirrosis hepática del servicio de Gastroenterología del Hospital de Alta Complejidad Virgen de la Puerta, considerada como la causa de las complicaciones más frecuentes en el paciente cirrótico. Los datos serán registrados en hojas elaboradas por el autor en base a los objetivos propuestos. La importancia de este proyecto es optimizar y orientar el tratamiento teniendo en cuenta quien produce mayor beneficio en la reducción de la Hipertensión portal, disminuyendo el riesgo de complicaciones asociadas a esta en la población.Trabajo de investigació

New fossil remains of the commensal barnacle Cryptolepas rhachianecti provide evidence of gray whales in the prehistoric South Pacific

Altres ajuts: CERCA Programme/Generalitat de CatalunyaWe report the finding of two partial specimens of Cryptolepas rhachianecti (Cirripedia, Coronulidae), a coronulid barnacle known only to inhabit the skin of gray whales (Eschrichtius robustus), in Pleistocene-aged sediments from the Canoa Basin, Ecuador. While the historical range of gray whales includes the North Pacific and North Atlantic, to our knowledge this is the first inferred evidence of a gray whale population having resided within the South Pacific. We describe the two Cryptolepas rhachianecti fossils, use isotopic analysis to investigate evidence of migration in their host whales, and discuss their implications for our understanding of gray whale evolutionary history

Nuevas variables predictoras en la incidencia de Síndrome Metabólico y Diabetes Mellitus tipo 2. Estudio longitudinal en población trabajadora

El Síndrome Metabólico (SMet) se define como un estado pluripatólogico, caracterizado por la presencia conjunta de varios factores de riesgo cardiovascular como son la obesidad abdominal, la hipertensión arterial y el metabolismo alterado de glúcidos y lípidos (bajo colesterol-HDL y elevación de triglicéridos). La principal consecuencia para la salud del SMet es su asociación con la incidencia de enfermedades cardiovasculares (cardiopatía isquémica, accidente cerebrovascular, enfermedad renal, diabetes, etc.). El aumento general de la prevalencia de MetS ha sido debido a la epidemia de obesidad que padece la población mundial. El sobrepeso y la obesidad son factores relacionados con la aparición de diabetes tipo 2, hipertensión arterial, dislipidemia y enfermedad cardiovascular. Más concretamente, la obesidad central, entendida como una acumulación excesiva de grasa abdominal, es un importante predictor de riesgo metabólico y SMet. Objetivos Conocer la validez predictiva de los diferentes indicadores de obesidad abdominal (IMC, ICT, ICC, PG, ABSI, etc.) en la incidencia y prevalencia de SMet y DM tipo 2. Proponer un valor de corte único para el ICT en hombres y mujeres, así como para los diferentes grupos de edad. Proponer y validar un nuevo método de detección precoz de SMet en población sana basado, únicamente, en variables antropométricas

Depression as a Risk Factor for Dementia and Alzheimer’s Disease

Preventing the onset of dementia and Alzheimer’s disease (AD), improving the diagnosis, and slowing the progression of these diseases remain a challenge. The aim of this study was to elucidate the association between depression and dementia/AD and to identify possible relationships between these diseases and different sociodemographic and clinical features. In this regard, a case-control study was conducted in Spain in 2018–2019. The definition of a case was: A person ≥ 65 years old with dementia and/or AD and a score of 5–7 on the Global Deterioration Scale (GDS). The sample consisted of 125 controls; among the cases, 96 had dementia and 74 had AD. The predictor variables were depression, dyslipidemia, type 2 diabetes mellitus, and hypertension. The results showed that depression, diabetes mellitus, and older age were associated with an increased likelihood of developing AD, with an Odds Ratio (OR) of 12.9 (95% confidence interval (CI): 4.3–39.9), 2.8 (95% CI: 1.1–7.1) and 1.15 (95% CI: 1.1–1.2), respectively. Those subjects with treated dyslipidemia were less likely to develop AD (OR 0.47, 95% CI: 0.22–1.1). Therefore, depression and diabetes mellitus increase the risk of dementia, whereas treated dyslipidemia has been shown to reduce this risk

Optimization of parameters for the dissolution of Mn from manganese nodules with the use of tailings in an acid medium

Manganese nodules are an attractive source of base metals and critical and rare elements and are required to meet a high demand of today’s industry. In previous studies, it has been shown that high concentrations of reducing agent (Fe) in the system are beneficial for the rapid extraction of manganese. However, it is necessary to optimize the operational parameters in order to maximize Mn recovery. In this study, a statistical analysis was carried out using factorial experimental design for the main parameters, including time, MnO2/Fe2O3 ratio, and H2SO4 concentration. After this, Mn recovery tests were carried out over time at di_erent ratios of MnO2/Fe2O3 and H2SO4 concentrations, where the potential and pH of the system were measured. Finally, it is concluded that high concentrations of FeSO4 in the system allow operating in potential and pH ranges (0.2 to 1.2 V and 1.8 to 0.1) that favor the formation of Fe2+ and Fe3+, which enable high extractions of Mn (73%) in short periods of time (5 to 20 min) operating with an optimum MnO2/Fe2O3 ratio of 1:3 and a concentration of 0.1 mol/L of H2SO4.The authors are grateful for the contribution of the Scientific Equipment Unit- MAINI of the Universidad Católica del Norte for aiding in generating data by automated electronic microscopy QEMSCAN®, and for facilitating the chemical analysis of the solutions.
