Sampling Theorem and Discrete Fourier Transform on the Hyperboloid
Using Coherent-State (CS) techniques, we prove a sampling theorem for
holomorphic functions on the hyperboloid (or its stereographic projection onto
the open unit disk ), seen as a homogeneous space of the
pseudo-unitary group SU(1,1). We provide a reconstruction formula for
bandlimited functions, through a sinc-type kernel, and a discrete Fourier
transform from samples properly chosen. We also study the case of
undersampling of band-unlimited functions and the conditions under which a
partial reconstruction from samples is still possible and the accuracy of
the approximation, which tends to be exact in the limit .Comment: 22 pages, 2 figures. Final version published in J. Fourier Anal. App
Worker Cooperatives and their Entrepreneurial Process. Theoretical Foundations and Empirical Evidence from the Worker Cooperatives Established in the Valencian Community, 2008-2014
The context of worker cooperatives is significantly different from that of traditional firms, and so the study of entrepreneurship also differs considerably. The analysis of the creation of worker cooperatives requires differentiated approaches, as the more conventional models of entrepreneurship do not prove adequate to this end. We analyze certain determinants of the entrepreneurial process from a sociocultural perspective, which is applicable specifically to this type of firm.
Based on the most important proposals of the network, business incubation, role, and marginalization theories from the sociocultural and institutional standpoints, we establish causal links between the determinants of the start-up process and the outcomes expected by cooperative entrepreneurs, in terms of both the performance of the firm itself and the personal outcomes anticipated by these entrepreneurs.
From a sample of 103 firms out of a total of 633 cooperatives set up in the Valencian Community (Spain) over the period 2008-2014, and by way of a quantitative methodology drawing on structural equations – and specifically, SmartPLS – we analyze the influence of the determinants on the outcomes of entrepreneurship; in so doing, we aim to establish both the influence or the direct effects on these outcomes and the indirect or mediation effects of the respective outcome variables, as well the possible moderation effects that may be exercised between the independent factors
Platelet Count and Bleeding in Patients Receiving Anticoagulant Therapy for Venous Thromboembolism : Lesson from the RIETE Registry
Major bleeding is one of the most dangerous complications for patients undergoing anticoagulant treatment for VTE. Several clinical scores have been planned to identify patients at higher risk of bleeding, and most of them take into consideration the number of platelets in particular if lower than normal. Here we report the clinical experience made with the RIETE registry concerning anticoagulant treatment in the presence of different values of platelets and their related risk of bleeding
Warfarin Versus Low-Molecular-Weight Heparin Therapy in Cancer Patients
Abstract
Learning Objectives
After completing this course, the reader will be able to:
Define characteristics of the interface between deep vein thrombosis and malignancy. Evaluate patient factors that may complicate long-term warfarin use in patients with cancer. List advantages that may be realized with low-molecular-weight heparin (versus warfarin) therapy in cancer patients.

The association between cancer and venous thromboembolism (VTE) is well established. Importantly, VTE is a significant cause of mortality in cancer patients. Although long-term warfarin (Coumadin™; Bristol-Myers Squibb; New York, NY) therapy is the mainstay of treatment for cancer patients with VTE, there are many practical problems with its use in this population. In particular, achieving therapeutic drug levels is difficult in cancer patients due to the increased risk of drug interactions, malnutrition, vomiting, and liver dysfunction in these patients. Moreover, cancer patients are at an increased risk of adverse effects of warfarin therapy. In contrast, low-molecular-weight heparins (LMWHs) are associated with a lower risk of adverse events compared with warfarin in patients with cancer. These agents also offer practical advantages compared with warfarin, including more predictable anticoagulant effects and ease of administration in addition to possible antineoplastic effects. Several LMWHs have demonstrated superior efficacy to warfarin in the secondary prevention of VTE. In particular, the LMWH, dalteparin (Fragmin®; Pfizer; New York, NY), has recently been shown to have superior efficacy to warfarin in a large trial of patients with cancer and VTE without increasing the risk of bleeding. A randomized trial of dalteparin has also shown improved response rates and survival in patients with small cell lung cancer. In view of the availability of more effective and reliable alternatives to warfarin therapy in cancer patients, it is appropriate to reassess the role of warfarin therapy in patients with cancer and VTE. Further evaluation of the LMWHs for effects on cancer outcome is indicated
Almost Complete Coherent State Subsystems and Partial Reconstruction of Wave Functions in the Fock-Bargmann Phase-Number Representation
We provide (partial) reconstruction formulas and discrete Fourier transforms
for wave functions in standard Fock-Bargmann (holomorphic) phase-number
representation from a finite number of phase samples for a given mean number of particles. The resulting
Coherent State (CS) subsystem is
complete (a frame) for truncated Hilbert spaces (finite number of particles)
and reconstruction formulas are exact. For an unbounded number of particles,
is "almost complete" (a \textit{pseudo-frame}) and partial
reconstruction formulas are provided along with an study of the accuracy of the
approximation, which tends to be exact when and/or .Comment: 20 pages, 3 figures. Typos correcte
Monreal Garrido, M. The Times They Are A-Changin’: Heterochrony in Plant Development and Evolution
Alterations in the timing of developmental programs during evolution, that lead to changes in the shape, or size of organs, are known as heterochrony. Heterochrony has been widely studied in animals, but has often been neglected in plants. During plant evolution, heterochronic shifts have played a key role in the origin and diversification of leaves, roots, flowers, and fruits. Heterochrony that results in a juvenile or simpler outcome is known as paedomorphosis, while an adult or more complex outcome is called peramorphosis. Mechanisms that alter developmental timing at the cellular level affect cell proliferation or differentiation, while those acting at the tissue or organismal level change endogenous aging pathways, morphogen signaling, and metabolism. We believe that wider consideration of heterochrony in the context of evolution will contribute to a better understanding of plant development
