especies do xénero Quercus existentes no extremo
identificadas. Ademáis, dase a coñecer a existencia de
carballais termófilos galaico-portugueses (as. Rusco
carballo (as. Lonicero periclymeni-Quercetum pyrenaicae)
nas cunca media e alta do río Eo, diversos tributarios pola
esquerda do Río Navia e no tramo medio do Río Narcea.

Cork oak forests in the NW Iberian Peninsula: phytosociological reassessment and new propo
This is an Accepted Manuscript of an article published by Taylor & Francis in Plant Biosystems - An International Journal Dealing with all Aspects of Plant Biology on September 2020, available at: https://doi.org/10.1080/11263504.2020.1810809The phytocenotic variability of the cork oak forests present in the northwesternmost Iberian Peninsula was studied through the analysis of a dataset of 145 new and 39 previously published relevés. The results allowed the recognition of four associations: (1) Arenario montanae-Quercetum suberis ass. nova: thermotemperate xerophytic forests of the Navia River valley (Galice/Asturias boundary); (2) Hedero hibernicae-Quercetum suberis stat. nov.: thermo-(meso-)temperate forests with oceanic influence of the Galician-Portuguese and Inland Galician territories; (3) Physospermo cornubiensis-Quercetum suberis: forests of the mesomediterranean territories of the Sil valley and Lower Bierzo, more thermic and less oceanic than the aforementioned communities; (4) Junipero lagunae-Quercetum suberis: mesomediterranean forests of areas of dry ombroclimate in the NE Portugal. Based on these results, a new interpretation is suggested for the Portuguese cork oak forests that have been considered as belonging to the typical subassociation of Physospermo cornubiensis-Quercetum suberis. The first two associations are part of the phytocenotic transition between the northernmost Mediterranean cork oak forests of the Iberian Peninsula and those present at the SW end of France. The new associations increase the knowledge of the phytosociological variability of habitat type 9330 of Annex I of CD92/43/EEC in the EU.S
We studied the downy birch forests that grow in the headwaters of rivers in the mountains in NW Iberian Peninsula and their differences from other previously described birch forests. To do this, an ordination analysis was done on a database of 342 relevés (144 unpublished). As a result, four riparian forest associations were recognized in the territory, all of them belonging to the suballiance Saxifrago spathularis-Fraxinenion excelsioris (Hyperico androsaemi-Alnion glutinosae, Alno-Fraxinetaliaexcelsioris, Salici-Populetea). Two associations (Carici reuterianae-Betuletum celtibericae and Violo palustris-Betuletum pubescentis) have been previously described, but the other two (Chaerophyllo hirsuti-Betuletum pubescentis and Valeriano officinalis-Betuletum pubescentis) are described here for the first time. We characterized their floristic composition, ecological features and distribution, and evaluated their conservation value under the criteria of the 92/43/CEE Community Directive, and with regard to national and regional lists of protected speciesEn este trabajo se aborda el estudio de las comunidades de abedulares riparios presentes en los tramosde cabecera de diversos macizos montañosos del extremo NW Ibérico y su diferenciación frente a otros tipos de abedulares previamente descritos.
cumbres más elevadas del macizo de Trevinca-Sanabria;
The natural vegetation of the river banks orders itself in parallel bands to the river
until taking contact with the climatic vegetation of the slopes. This distribution is the result of
the interaction of diverse factors, like the soils humidity balance, the geomorphological action
of water or the nature of the substrate, whose intensity is modified gradually as the distance
with the river is increased. In the middle course of the valley of the Ulla river (Galicia, Spain),
four main ecological environments have been recognized, that correspond with different types
of vegetation: permanent aquatic environments, accumulation banks, erosion banks and
stabilized banks. Although there are many forms of transition due to the dynamism of these
environments. In all of them, we observed a high degree of alteration. The vegetation of the
borders of the river is being reduced to a narrow longitudinal bands as a result of the strong
human impact
Genetic survey extension of the threatened Iberian Arnica montana L. revealed the presence of divergent plastid lineages and highly structured populations in northern Spain
Iberian populations of Arnica montana L. (Asteraceae) represent a valuable resource both for conservation and pharmaceutical industry. Previous genetic analyses pointed out the presence of different genetic groups, but a wide region is still genetically unexplored. In order to fill this scientific gap, the present study analysed a wider sampling area along the northern Iberian Peninsula. Nuclear (i.e. microsatellite loci) and plastid DNA (cpDNA) molecular markers were used to assess the levels of genetic diversity and the population structure in 16 locations, eight analysed for the first time in the present study and eight representative of the different genetic groups previously identified. The two divergent cpDNA groups previously described were found, but their distribution was extended and refined. Thus, one of the groups (suggested as ancestral) was predominantly distributed in adjacent zones of the Cantabrian coasts while the other (more related to Central-European populations) was predominant in inner Cantabrian regions and Pyrenees. Genetic diversity with microsatellite loci (He = 0.280) was in accordance with the figures previously described, with a high level of population differentiation (FST > 0.500) identifying the presence of up to five population genetic units. Genetic and geographical distances were not related (no isolation-by-distance pattern identified), suggesting an important effect of genetic drift. Finally, due to the conservation and evolutionary interest of the populations analysed, different management actions useful for the maintenance of wild A. montana resources are provided.
