Clarifying leadership roles in ERP implementation projects
Existence of an adequate project champion role has been identified as a critical success factor in Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) implementation projects. However, the figure of the project champion is not yet quite well understood. Some authors relate it with the project sponsor figure while others relate it with the project manager figure. This paper tries to clarify these concepts. Our research framework is based upon an extensive ERP literature review and a web survey. The findings of this web survey suggest that the adequate project champion role is that of the project sponsor, emerging as a dual-role champion.ERP, Leadership , Roles
A goals/questions/metrics plan for monitoring user involvement and participation in ERP (...)
ERP implementation success is influenced by a large number of factors. User involvement and participation is one of the most cited critical success factors in ERP implementation projects, and one of the most critical ones for their satisfactory outcome. This study attempts to define a set of metrics for monitoring user involvement and participation within ERP implementation projects by using the Goals/Questions/Metrics method. First, a literature review is presented. Second, a framework for monitoring user involvement and participation in ERP implementation projects is proposed. And third, a Goals/Questions/Metrics preliminary plan is proposed to monitor and control user involvement.ERP, Involvement, Participation, Metrics, Goals, Questions
Plastic waste is currently recognized as a critical factor for environmental health. This environmental problem is aggravated by fact that plastics fragment to smaller and smaller particles, reaching nanometric dimensions, increasing their bioavailability and potentially their toxic effects. There are, however, few studies of nanoplastics effects (NPs, less than 100 nm plastic size reduction), especially in freshwater vertebrates. Thus, this work aimed to study the potential effect of nanoparticles of two different polymers, polystyrene (PS) and polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA), ~ 30 nm, in a range of concentration between 0.001 and 100 mg / L. In order to ensure that NPs has desirable characteristics (size, shape, different analysis methods have been tested for reproducibility of the final product). After synthesis, the NPs were purified using dialysis sleeves and characterized in ultrapure water, in terms of hydrodynamic size (using dynamic light scattering (DLS), size and morphology (using electron microscopy). Following characterization, experimental assays with zebrafish embryos that involved exposure to NPs (in single exposures and combined with an environmental pollutant with a wide distribution in aquatic systems, pyrene, four rings polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon). In the NPs single assays, parameters such as developmental changes, swimming behaviour and stress response and biochemical responses associated with neurotransmission (cholinesterase - ChE), energy metabolism (glycogen - Gly, isocitrate dehydrogenase- IDH and lactate dehydrogenase - LDH) and antioxidant response (glutathione) were evaluated. S-transferase - GST, glutathione peroxidase - GPx and catalase - CAT) and oxidative damage (lipid peroxidation - LPO). In trials where embryos were subjected to combined exposure to NPs and pyrene, only developmental changes, swimming behaviour and stress response were evaluated. In general, it was found that under the experimental conditions tested, that NPs (round, average size ~30 nm) had no significant impact on mortality or embryo development. However, changes in larval swimming behaviour and biochemical parameters were observed. Thus, in organisms exposed to PS NPs, the total swim distance increased in organisms exposed to 0.001, 1 and 100 mg/L. In terms of PMMA NPs, total swim distance increased significantly in organisms exposed to 0.001, 0.01 and 1 mg/L. However, the swimming distance and time in outside of the test area (expressed as a percentage) decreased in the exposed organisms at 0.001 and 10 mg/L. In terms of biochemical responses, it was found that PS NPs could affect neurotransmission (causing increased cholinesterase activity at 1 mg/L concentration and decreased at 0.01.0.1 mg/L (PS NPs) and 0.01 mg/L (PMMA). In terms of parameters associated with the antioxidant response, PS inhibited GST (0.01,10 and 100 mg / L) and CAT (0.001 and 10 mg / L), while GPx was induced to (0.001 mg / L) and inhibited at (0.1 and 1 mg / L). PMMA induced GPx (10 mg / L), increased CAT activity (0.001, 0.1 and 10 mg / L). Also, CAT was decreased by PMMA at 0.01 mg/L. There was lipid peroxidation in the exposure by PS NPs (1 mg / L) and PMMA NPs (0.001, 0.01 and 0.1 mg / L). In terms of energy metabolism, IDH was found decreased in organisms exposed to PS NPs (0.001, 0.01, 0.1 and 100 mg / L) and an increase for PMMA (0.001 mg / L). Results of simultaneous exposure to NPs and pyrene disassembled that the effect of pyrene toxicity (pericardial oedema and tail curvature) (0.01 and 1 ÎŒg / L) decreased. In addition, the combination of NPs and pyrene also reduced the effect of NPs (0.1 and 100 mg / L) on zebrafish swimming behaviour of both polymers. Thus, it is demonstrated that short-term exposure to NPs may cause biochemical and behavioural changes that may compromise animal welfare and have environmental consequences (e.g. ability to acquire food, breeding and escape from predation). Zebrafish embryos demonstrated sensitivity to low concentrations of NPs, justifying their application in ecotoxicological studies of emerging contaminants.O lixo plĂĄstico Ă© atualmente reconhecido como fator crĂtico para a saĂșde ambiental.

Financial digitalization: Risk or opportunity
The growing technological development is giving rise to the digitalization of the economy, which spreads
to all industries, including the financial industry, bringing with it risks and opportunities, and affecting all
stakeholders. This change is accompanied by shifts in socio-economic thinking, collaboration between
economic agents, thus joining the digital economy to the collaborative economy, including financial
dematerialization and disintermediation.
In an attempt to obtain a more quantitative analysis about the financial digitalization disruption in the
various actors of the financial system, with a focus on Europe and investment, it was concluded that it is
still relatively premature to have definitive conclusions about the risks and opportunities of the financial
digitalization, however, some conclusions were reached, such as, a direct link between the prevalence of
FinTechs and the low economic development in jurisdictions in Europe was not observed. Specialized
clusters in areas of financial innovation have been found in some European countries, where regulation and
legislation play important roles in this specialization. The most relevant financial areas in this disruption are
in the following descending order, payments, investments and credit financing. Crypto-assets showed high
volatility, and could not be considered as safe haven and store of value assets, including âstablecoinsâ,
which proved not to be stable enough and fail to be faithful digital representations of traditional financial
assets. This leads to the conclusion that they cannot yet be considered as substitutes for fiat currencies and
other financial assets. Therefore, a conclusion must be drawn that investment in crypto-assets is highly
intervenientes.
incluindo a desmaterialização e desintermediação financeiras.
As
especulativo
Portfolio diversification using Bitcoin
Usually, we associate Bitcoin with the dark side of the finance world - Bitcoin as a mean for online blackmail or scam, the black market or even for Ponzi schemes, where Bitcoin and other digital currencies are used as mean of payment, instead of physical currency.
But, there are also investors who are using Bitcoin as an investment asset, whether for buy and hold strategies or trading
The downside of this investment asset it is the volatility
Although risky and legally in a grey zone, it can be used in an investment portfolio as a diversification agent, an odd one but perhaps feasible.
The aim of this thesis is to analyze if Bitcoin can as a diversification agent in an efficient and well diversified portfolio.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
An Updated ERP Systems Annotated Bibliography: 2001-2005
This study provides an updated annotated bibliography of ERP publications published in the main IS conferences and journals during the period 2001-2005, categorizing them through an ERP lifecycle-based framework that is structured in phases. The first version of this bibliography was published in 2001 (Esteves and Pastor, 2001c). However, so far, we have extended the bibliography with a significant number of new publications in all the categories used in this paper. We also reviewed the categories and some incongruities were eliminated.ERP
Global restructuring and local anti-poverty action: learning from European experimental programms
referĂȘncia epistemolĂłgico para a coerĂȘncia e legitimidade cientĂfica do trabalho a desenvolver.
futuros desenvolvimentos do trabalho agora apresentado. This work discusses how Municipalities can improve their contribution to anti-poverty action in
a context of global restructuring. First, it starts by introducing the relevance of the
âparadigmatic transitionâ in the social sciences to anti-poverty action and presents the
contribution of âcriticalâ realism as a possible framework for ensuring coherence to the work to
be developed. Second, the work proposes a way of conceptualising anti-poverty action. Concepts
such as âpovertyâ, âbasic-needsâ, âagency and structureâ, âlocalityâ and âeconomic integrationâ
are discussed and defined with precision. Third, the theoretical development of the work offers
an overview of contributions aiming to explain âglobal restructuringâ, local development and
territorial planning and discusses their relevance to anti-poverty action. Contemporary change is
explained as a transition to âflexible accumulationâ, an action-oriented theory of âlocal
underdevelopmentâ is developed and territorial planning as an âempowering dialogueâ is
presented offering a coherent framework where to situate Municipal anti-poverty action. Finally,
on the basis of ârealist synthesisâ several European experimental programmes and their
evaluation exercises are ârevisitedâ and âlessonsâ are learned. These programmes offer many
examples of action possibilities and enable the identification of policy implications. The
relevance of their outcomes is given by the epistemological, conceptual and theoretical
framework of this work. It was possible to discuss the âconcept-dependentâ and âcontextdependentâ
relevance of the potential âmigrating ideasâ learned from experimental action. It was
also possible to discuss their contribution to the legitimacy of key-messages and policy
implications and propose some different perspectives for future developments of the work presented now.ISCT
The Impact of Individual and Social Attitude in Business Information Technology Knowledge Sharing
This exploratory study attempts to analyze the way women and men perceive talking about information and communication technology, and its impact in knowledge sharing. Based in 14 focus groups we have defined a conceptual model to interpret this impact in ICT knowledge sharing. Our research findings show that there are differences between men and women, thus gender is a critical factor in ICT knowledge sharing. Also, social, cultural and educational factors have a strong negative impact in their behaviour. Furthermore, we posit that the attitude predisposes a favourable (men) and unfavourable (women) reaction to talk about ICT and this affects ICT knowledge sharing.Focus group, Gender, Knowledge
