Neutron Stars in Teleparallel Gravity
In this paper we deal with neutron stars, which are described by a perfect
fluid model, in the context of the teleparallel equivalent of general
relativity. We use numerical simulations to find the relationship between the
angular momentum of the field and the angular momentum of the source. Such a
relation was established for each stable star reached by the numerical
simulation once the code is fed with an equation of state, the central energy
density and the ratio between polar and equatorial radii. We also find a regime
where linear relation between gravitational angular momentum and moment of
inertia (as well as angular velocity of the fluid) is valid. We give the
spatial distribution of the gravitational energy and show that it has a linear
dependence with the squared angular velocity of the source.Comment: 19 pages, 14 figures. arXiv admin note: text overlap with

The aim of this study was to evaluate pain symptoms, teeth clenching, quality of sleep, sensitivity to pain in the main masticatory and stabilizer muscles, and quality of life among women with temporomandibular disorder (TMD). METHODS: Forty-five women were evaluated and divided into two groups. Group I included 27 women (mean age 30.1±5.8 years) with a diagnosis of TMD and Group II (control) included 18 healthy women (mean age 23.4±2.3 years). The intensity of pain symptoms (headache, neck pain), teeth clenching and trouble sleeping was evaluated using a visual analog scale (VAS). The pain thresholds of the masseter, anterior temporalis, upper trapezius and sternocleidomastoid muscles were evaluated using a dolorimeter. Quality of life was evaluated using SF-36. Statistical analysis was performed and the significance level was α<0.05. RESULTS: The results showed that the women with TMD presented more intense headache (p<0.001), neck pain (p<0.001), teeth clenching (p<0.001) and trouble sleeping (p<0.001). They also presented lower pain threshold in the masseter (p<0.001), anterior temporalis (p<0.001), upper trapezius (p<0.001) and sternocleidomastoid (p<0.001) muscles and lower quality of life in all evaluated domains (p<0.05) when compared with the control group. CONCLUSIONS:Women with TMD had greater intensity of pain symptoms, teeth clenching, trouble sleeping, sensitivity to pain in the masticatory and neck muscles and lower quality of life, compared with women without TMD

Efficacy of movement control exercises versus general exercises on recurrent sub-acute nonspecific low back pain in a sub-group of patients with movement control dysfunction. protocol of a randomized controlled trial
Background: Practice guidelines recommend various types of exercise for chronic back pain but there have been few head-to-head comparisons of these interventions. General exercise seems to be an effective option for management of chronic low back pain (LBP) but very little is known about the management of a sub-acute LBP within sub-groups.
Recent research has developed clinical tests to identify a subgroup of patients with chronic non-specific LBP who have movement control dysfunction (MD).
Method/Design: We are conducting a randomized controlled trial (RCT) to compare the effects of general exercise and specific movement control exercise (SMCE) on disability and function in patients with MD within recurrent sub-acute LBP. The main outcome measure is the Roland Morris Disability Questionnaire.
Discussion: European clinical guideline for management of chronic LBP recommends that more research is required to develop tools to improve the classification and identification of specific clinical sub-groups of chronic LBP patients. Good quality RCTs are then needed to determine the effectiveness of specific interventions aimed at these specific target groups. This RCT aims to test the hypothesis whether patients within a sub-group of MD benefit more through a specific individually tailored movement control exercise program than through general exercises
Occupational exposure of workers to pesticides: Toxicogenetics and susceptibility gene polymorphisms
Farm workers are often exposed to pesticides, which are products belonging to a specific chemical group that affects the health of agricultural workers and is mostly recognized as genotoxic and carcinogenic. The exposure of workers from Piauí, Brazil, to these hazardous chemicals was assessed and cytogenetic alterations were evaluated using the buccal micronucleus assay, hematological and lipid parameters, butyrylcholinesterase (BChE) activity and genetic polymorphisms of enzymes involved in the metabolism of pesticides, such as PON1, as well as of the DNA repair system (OGG1, XRCC1 and XRCC4). Two groups of farm workers exposed to different types of pesticides were evaluated and compared to matched non-exposed control groups. A significant increase was observed in the frequencies of micronuclei, kariorrhexis, karyolysis and binucleated cells in the exposed groups (n = 100) compared to controls (n = 100). No differences were detected regarding the hematological parameters, lipid profile and BChE activity. No significant difference was observed either regarding DNA damage or nuclear fragmentation when specific metabolizing and DNA repair genotypes were investigated in the exposed groups
Development of microsatellite markers for identifying Brazilian Coffea arabica varieties
Microsatellite markers, also known as SSRs (Simple Sequence Repeats), have proved to be excellent tools for identifying variety and determining genetic relationships. A set of 127 SSR markers was used to analyze genetic similarity in twenty five Coffea arabica varieties. These were composed of nineteen commercially important Brazilians and six interspecific hybrids of Coffea arabica, Coffea canephora and Coffealiberica. The set used comprised 52 newly developed SSR markers derived from microsatellite enriched libraries, 56 designed on the basis of coffee SSR sequences available from public databases, 6 already published, and 13 universal chloroplast microsatellite markers. Only 22 were polymorphic, these detecting 2-7 alleles per marker, an average of 2.5. Based on the banding patterns generated by polymorphic SSR loci, the set of twenty-five coffee varieties were clustered into two main groups, one composed of only Brazilian varieties, and the other of interspecific hybrids, with a few Brazilians. Color mutants could not be separated. Clustering was in accordance with material genealogy thereby revealing high similarity
