    Unbiased Cosmological Parameter Estimation from Emission Line Surveys with Interlopers

    The galaxy catalogs generated from low-resolution emission line surveys often contain both foreground and background interlopers due to line misidentification, which can bias the cosmological parameter estimation. In this paper, we present a method for correcting the interloper bias by using the joint-analysis of auto- and cross-power spectra of the main and the interloper samples. In particular, we can measure the interloper fractions from the cross-correlation between the interlopers and survey galaxies, because the true cross-correlation must be negligibly small. The estimated interloper fractions, in turn, remove the interloper bias in the cosmological parameter estimation. For example, in the Hobby-Eberly Telescope Dark Energy Experiment (HETDEX) low-redshift (z<0.5z<0.5) [O II] λ3727\lambda3727{\AA} emitters contaminate high-redshift (1.9<z<3.51.9<z<3.5) Lyman-α\alpha line emitters. We demonstrate that the joint-analysis method yields a high signal-to-noise ratio measurement of the interloper fractions while only marginally increasing the uncertainties in the cosmological parameters relative to the case without interlopers. We also show the same is true for the high-latitude spectroscopic survey of Wide-Field Infrared Survey Telescope (WFIRST) mission where contamination occurs between the Balmer-α\alpha line emitters at lower redshifts (1.1<z<1.91.1<z<1.9) and Oxygen ([O III] λ5007\lambda5007{\AA}) line emitters at higher redshifts (1.7<z<2.81.7<z<2.8).Comment: 36 pages, 26 figure

    Monitoring of Dung Beetle (Scarabaeidae and Geotrupidae) Activity Along Maryland\u27s Coastal Plain

    Our understanding of how human activities impact insect communities is limited. Dung beetles, well known for the ecosystem services they provide, are faced with many conservation threats, particularly from deforestation and agriculture. Here we used 200-m transects and human-dung—baited pitfall traps to examine dung beetle populations in 7 forests of Maryland\u27s Coastal Plain. We set traps once a month, from May 2014 to April 2015, to determine species presence, abundance, range, and seasonality. We collected 6463 individuals representing 22 species; Janes Island State Park (JISP) had the highest abundance (2705 individuals) and Martinak State Park (MSP) had the highest species richness (19 species). During summer 2015, we examined the succession of dung beetles attracted to bait in JISP and MSP. We set 10 traps once a month (May–August) in each site and collected beetles on days 1, 3, 5, 7, 14, and 21 without dung replacement. In JISP, Onthophagus hecate (Scooped Scarab) was abundant throughout each 21-d period, and accounted for 68% of all beetles collected. In MSP, most specimens were collected by day 5. Por lo que el objetivo principal del estudio es analizar el nivel de aplicación de la responsabilidad social empresarial en la microempresa ANTARES BLUE OFICIAL basados en las fases fundamentales de la norma ISO 26000. En la metodología, el tipo de investigación es cualitativo, se usa una muestra de 5 personas que trabajan en la empresa de artesanías Antares Blue, la finalidad es analizar si la empresa cumple o usa las normas 26001 a través del método de la entrevista, que contiene preguntas con opción múltiple, y preguntas abiertas. Los productos que se esperan obtener en la investigación será información detallada del estado de la empresa en el tema de RSE, por consiguiente, obtener un plan de mejoramiento, que ayudará a la microempresa a tomar las respectivas estrategias, para que pueda ser más competitiva dentro del mercado.In the corporate and social field, the concept of social responsibility has been gaining strength in the midst of a society that is a little more empathetic both with the environment and with society in general, managing to contemplate within the policies of corporate social responsibility the protection of human rights, welfare for employees, among others that manage to strengthen the term and manage to be at the level of the parameters established by governments and by society. Therefore, the main objective of the research is to analyze the level of application of corporate social responsibility in the ANTARES BLUE OFFICIAL microenterprise based on the fundamental subjects of the ISO 26000 standard. In the methodology, is qualitative, a sample of 5 people who work in the Antares Blue crafts company is used, the purpose is to analyze if the company complies or uses the 26001 standards through the interview method, which Contains multiple choice questions and open questions. The products that are expected to be obtained in the investigation will be detailed information on the state of the company on the subject of CSR, therefore obtaining an improvement plan, which will help the microenterprise to take the respective strategies, so that it can be more competitive within the market

    Failure of dual radius hydroxyapatite-coated acetabular cups

    <p>Abstract</p> <p>Introduction</p> <p>Many kind of hydroxyapatite-coated cups were used, with favorable results in short term studies; it was supposed that its use could improve osteointegration of the cup, enhancing thus stability and survivorship. The purpose of this study is to analyze the long term behavior of the hemispheric HA coated, Dual Radius Osteonics cup and to discuss the way of failure through the exam of the revised components and of both periacetabular and osteolysis tissue.</p> <p>Materials and Methods</p> <p>Between 1994 and 1997, at the Department of Orthopedic Sciences of the Insubria University, using the posterolateral approach, were implanted 276 Dual Radius Osteonics<sup>® </sup>in 256 patients, with mean age of 63 years.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>At a mean follow-up of 10 years (range 8–12 years), 183 cups in 165 patients, were available for clinical and radiographical evaluation. 22 Cups among the 183 were revised (11%). The cause of revision was aseptic loosening in 17 cases, septic loosening in one case, periprosthetic fracture in another case, osteolysis and polyethylene wear in two cases and, finally, recurrent dislocations in the last one. In the remaining patients, mean HHS increased from a preoperative value of 50,15 to a postoperative value of 92,69. The mean polyethylene wear was 1,25 mm (min. 0,08, max. 3,9 mm), with a mean annual wear of 0,17 mm. The mean acetabular migration on the two axis was 1,6 mm and 1,8 mm. Peri-acetabular osteolysis were recorded in 89% of the implants (163 cases). The cumulative survivorship (revision as endpoint) at the time was 88,9%.</p> <p>Conclusion</p> <p>Our study confirms the bad behavior of this type of cup probably related to the design, to the method of HA fixation. The observations carried out on the revised cup confirm these hypotheses but did not clarify if the third body wear could be a further problem. Another interesting aspect is the high incidence of osteolysis, which are often asymptomatic becoming a problem for the surgeon as the patient refuses the possibility of a revision.</p

    The New Swift/UVOT+MaNGA (SwiM) Value-added Catalog

    We present the the new Swift/UVOT+MaNGA (SwiM) catalog (SwiM_v4.1). SwiM_v4.1 is designed to study star formation and dust attenuation within nearby galaxies given the unique overlap of Swift/UVOT near-ultraviolet (NUV) imaging and MaNGA integral field optical spectroscopy. SwiM_v4.1 comprises 559 objects, ∼4 times more than the original SwiM catalog (SwiM_v3.1), spans the redshift range z ≈ 0.0002–0.1482, and provides a more diverse and rich sample. Approximately 5% of the final MaNGA sample is included in SwiM_v4.1, and 42% of the SwiM_v4.1 galaxies are cross-listed with other well-known catalogs. We present the same data as SwiM_v3.1, including UVOT images, Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) images, and MaNGA emission-line and spectral index maps with the same pixel size and angular resolution for each galaxy, and a file containing galaxy and observational properties. We designed SwiM_v4.1 to be unbiased, which resulted in some objects having low signal-to-noise ratios in their MaNGA or Swift data. We addressed this by providing a new file containing the fraction of science-ready pixels in each MaNGA emission-line map, and the integrated flux and inverse variance for all three NUV filters. The uniform angular resolution and sampling in SwiM_v4.1 will help answer a number of scientific questions, including constraining quenching and attenuation in the local Universe and studying the effects of black hole feedback. The galaxy maps, catalog files, and their associated data models are publicly released on the SDSS website (a description of the SwiM VAC is provided at https://www.sdss4.org/dr17/data_access/value-added-catalogs/?vac_id=swift-manga-value-added-catalog , and the data are stored on the SDSS Science Archive Server at https://data.sdss.org/sas/dr17/manga/swim/v4.1/ )
