Persian classical guitar repertoire falls largely into two categories. The first is a collection of early works by Persian composers that reflects European compositional styles and rarely show signs of the modes and melodic gestures associated with Persian traditional repertoire (radif) or folk music. A more recent trend incorporates the sounds and spirit of Persian classical music in two distinct ways: a) pieces that apply thematic material derived from Persian music, and b) pieces inspired by the improvisational aesthetics of Persian music. The main question this thesis seeks to answer is: “How can we bring performance practices associated with classical Persian music into the delivery of modern compositions based on Persian music?” In this thesis, I draw out of the literature specific sites of agency in Persian music performance practice, including but not limited to ornamentation, melodic phrasing, various types of melodic and rhythmic variation, and intonation. Through a comparative study of recordings, I then map out the wide range of approaches to performance this agency yields and ponder how the spectrum of practices documented in this analysis might inform the delivery of five pieces written for the classical guitar: Khorasani and Nava by Mehrdad Pakbaz, Five Persian Miniatures by Dušan Bogdanović, Nam by Carlo Domeniconi, and my own composition for flute and guitar, Le Yarei. The lecture recital submitted as my major creative work presents stylisations of these compositions that draw on the findings of my performance practice analysis

In the centrosymmetric dinuclear title compound, [Cd2I4(C12H12N2O2)2], two μ-I atoms bridge two CdII atoms and each CdII atom is also bonded to a terminal I atom and a hydroxy-methoxy-bis(2-pyridyl)methane ligand, which functions in an N,O,N′-tridentate mode, resulting in a distorted octahedral coordination environment. Intermolecular O—H⋯I hydrogen bonds and π–π stacking interactions between the pyridine rings [centroid–centroid distance = 3.790 (2) Å] are present in the crystal structure

Hodges Lehmann estimator for robust design using Dual Response Surface Approach

    Get PDF
In this paper, we proposed the usage of the robust Hodges Lehmann estimator (HLE) as a location measure in the construction of optimal designs using the Dual Response Surface Approach (DRSA) where the location and scale measures were incorporated simultaneously into the model. The performance of six models with different pairs of location and scale estimators were compared. The results from a simulation study showed that for the non-normal and normal distribution with contaminated data, the model using HLE and inter-quartile range (IQR) performed better than the pair of the sample median and IQR as achieved by Park and Cho (2002)

Radio direction finding perform better at high altitude due to greater line of sight coverage. In this paper, the radio direction finding-miniature unmanned air vehicles (RDF-MUAVs) platform able to localize the beacon by accessing the direction of signal and report it back to the ground station immediately, improving search and rescue operations. RDF-MUAV system divided into four major part; RF front end design; RF software design; ground station design; and user interface (UI). This paper focuses on two out of the four major parts, which designing a good UI and RF front end to be integrated into the system. The UI is designed using Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP (LAMP) architecture in Raspberry Pi platform that can display accurate data obtained from RDF-MUAVs. The UI is based on HTML which is lightweight, modifiable and can be accessed through smartphone, tablets, or personal computer. In the antenna design, phase direction finder method is chosen. The rotation of antenna can be done by moving the UAV to obtain the bearing to the source signal. Proposed type of antenna is Yagi-Uda antenna due to its high gain and relatively small size. The folded dipole is chosen as the driven element of the antenna due to its bandwidth characteristics and directivity. Result shows the function-al bandwidth is 200MHz which can accept electromagnetic waves from 500MHz to 600MHz and 900MHz to 1000MHz. Overall, the design implementations provide a feasible system in search and rescue operation

This study has been conducted to investigate the influence of temperature levels in the densification process by hot-press methods on the physical and mechanical properties of false walnut wood (Pterocarya fraxinifolia). For this purpose, wood specimens from five standing trees were compressed at different densification temperatures (110, 140 and 170 °C). Then, the data of oven dry density, modulus of rupture, modulus of elasticity in bending and withdrawal strength of nail of compressed wood were analyzed by SPSS software. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) indicated that the densification temperature had significant effects on the physical and mechanical properties. The most suitable temperature level was 140 °C for a higher density, modulus of rupture, modulus of elasticity in bending, and withdrawal strength of nail in the densifi cation of false walnut wood. Increase of 27 % in the density, 80 % in the modulus of elasticity (MOE), 252 % in the modulus of rupture (MOR) and 215 % in the withdrawal strength of nail were obtained after densification. Background: Beta thalassemia is one of the inherited blood diseases in which the production of specific chains in hemoglobin decreases. Esfarlal is a shaltor which is used in these patients as a single dose per day. Since it is prescribed orally, it is easier to tolerate the drug and control the serum iron level of the patient. The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of Osveral in reducing ferritin levels in patients with thalassemia major. Methods: This quasi-experimental study was performed on 48 patients with thalassemia major who referred to Bu-Ali hospital for receiving blood. At the beginning of the study, the required data were collected along with patients' tests including hemoglobin, ferritin, TSH, T4, CBC diff, BUN AST, ALT, BS and creatinine CBC diff. The Osveral drug was prescribed and the patients were evaluated monthly for up to 6 months on the basis of complications. In the first three months after the start of the drug, the serum ferritin level was measured, the dose was adjusted and 6 months after late, the previous tests were again requested, and the auditory and visual examinations were performed, and the information entered the checklist. Data were analyzed using SPSS statistical software. Results: Among all patients, 27 (56.2%) were male and the rest were women with a mean age of 22.22 ± 8.77 years. The results showed that during one year of study, hemoglobin level increased and ferritin level decreased significantly, and other parameters didn’t show significant difference. Nausea and vomiting were the most common complications among patients, which was higher after Osveral than before receiving Osveral. Conclusions: Results showed that Osveral is effective in reducing the level of ferritin in patients with thalassemia major, but control of hematuria is recommended when using this drug

In this study 193 Klebsiella pneumoniae were isolated from urinary tract infections, ulcers, sputum and blood. Initially, Mac agar medium was used to isolate the bacterium, and for each suspected isolate, pink and aqueous colonies were stained and biochemical tests of catalase, oxidase, TSI, IMVIC Test and urase were performed. Confirmation of the isolates using 16SrRNA sequencing Some isolates are evaluated. Then all isolates evaluated for sensitivity to antibiotics such as Ampicillin, Amoxicillin clavulanate, Piperacillin, Cefoxitin, Cefuroxime Imipenem, Tetracyclines, Nitrofurantoin, Polymyxin B Colistin, they use disk diffusion test. In the process, the presence of the acr efflux pump gene is confirmed by using an specific primer namely Acr primer, and finally, using phenylalaninearginine- beta naphthylamide inhibitor, the relationship between antibiotic resistance and efflux pump function is evaluated. Overall, 50.2% of the collected samples contained Klebsiella. Thus, 193 of 384 clinical specimens contained Klebsiella. Of the 193 positive samples, the groin lesions had the highest percentage and the abscess had lowest percentage of Klebsiella infection, although Klebsiella was significantly separated from the throat, sputum, catheter and foley. Antibiotics, cefazolin, ceftazidime, ciprofloxacin, Chloramphenicol, tetracycline had higher antibacterial activity. Results were analyzed by Whonet 5 and SPSS software

The generation of free radical species may represent the negative aspect of exercise. There are a lot of data which have been shown an association between exercise and the increased free radical formation. Living cellular damage may lead human towards hasty aging and variant cancers. It is widely agreed that with increasing consumption of fruits and vegetables, decreased intake of unsaturated fat and moderate exercise will enhance fitness and improved cardiovascular health of the population in most of the developed and near-developed countries. Vitamin E and Curcumin have been known as a strong Antioxidant for prevent of the lipid peroxidation and improve the antioxidant defense system. Curcumin is a phenolic compound presented as a strong anti-oxidative, anti-inflammatory and anti-septic property, widely used in Indian medicine and culinary traditions. Recent investigation has shown that curcumin prevents lipid peroxidation and DNA strand breakage. This review have been shown the effect of the curcumin and vitamin E supplement on the lippid peroxidation and antioxidant defense system specify during the exercise

Osteoporosis is a progressive bone disease that over time, bone mass, and therefore bones strength, is decreased, due to depletion of calcium and bone protein. So, bones become fragile and break easily. The unique ability of human parathyroid hormone (hPTH) as a bone anabolic agent, to increase bone density makes it a promising anabolic agent in the treatment of osteoporosis. Parathyroid hormone secreted by parathyroid chief cells is composed of 84 amino acids act as one of the major hormones maintaining calcium homeostasis. Anabolic agents directly stimulate bone formation and improve the microarchitecture of bone. Hence, they have the potential to increase bone mass by promoting the growth of new bone greater extent than antiresorptives that inhibit bone resorption. N-terminal fragment (amino acids 1–34) of human parathyroid hormone was regarded to cover most of the hormonal actions of the intact human parathyroid hormone named teriparatide and is currently the only FDA approved anabolic medication for osteoporosis. According to some reports, the C-terminal region of the full-length PTH (1–84) may play an important role in its biological function. The C-terminus of PTH can regulate calcium concentration released from bone through binding to a different PTH receptor specific for the C-terminus. The aim of this study was to express and produce the recombinant PTH protein (1-84) in E.coli

Introduction Echocardiographic indices can form the basis of the diagnosis of systolic and diastolic left ventricular (LV) dysfunction in patients with Mitral regurgitation (MR). However, using echocardiography alone may bring us to a diagnostic dead-end. The aim of this study was to compare N-Terminal pro B-natriuretic peptide (BNP) and echocardiographic indices in patients with mitral regurgitation. Methods 2D and Doppler echocardiography and BNP serum level were obtained from 54 patients with organic mild, moderate and severe MR. Results BNP levels were increased with symptoms in patients with mitral regurgitation (NYHAI: 5.7 ± 1.1, NYHAII: 6.9 ± 1.5, NYHAIII: 8.3 ± 2 pg/ml, P < 0.001). BNP plasma level were significantly correlated with MPI (myocardial performance index) (r = 0.399, P = 0.004), and following echocardiographic indices: LVEDV (r = 0.45, P < 0.001), LVESV (r = 0.54, P < 0.001), LVEDD (r = 0.48, P < 0.001), LVESD (r = 0.54, P < 0.001), dp/dt (r = −0.32, P = 0.019) and SPAP (r = 0.4, P = 0.006). Conclusion The present study showed that BNP may be useful in patients with MR and may confirm echocardiographic indices
