    One-loop structure of the U(1) gauge model on the truncated Heisenberg space

    We calculate divergent one-loop corrections to the propagators of the U(1) gauge theory on the truncated Heisenberg space, which is one of the extensions of the Grosse-Wulkenhaar model. The model is purely geometric, based on the Yang-Mills action; the corresponding gauge-fixed theory is BRST invariant. We quantize perturbatively and, along with the usual wave-function and mass renormalizations, we find divergent nonlocal terms of the 1\Box^{-1} and 2\Box^{-2} type. We discuss the meaning of these terms and possible improvements of the model.Comment: 29 page

    Inhibitory effect of coumarin derivatives on apple (cv. Idared) polyphenol oxidase

    Inhibitory effect of 32 coumarin derivatives (20 Schiff bases, 5 thiosemicarbazides, 5 thiazolidinones, and their precursors, 7-hydroxy-4-methylcoumarin and 4-methylcoumarin-7-yl hydrazine carboxylate) on partially purified apple polyphenol oxidase was investigated. Thirteen coumarin derivatives inhibited polyphenol oxidase (5 Schiff bases, 5 thiosemicarbazides, 1 thiazolidinone, 4-methyl-7-hydroxycoumarin and 4-methylcoumarin-7-yl hydrazine carboxylate), while 19 derivatives showed no effect on enzyme activity. The most effective inhibitors were thiosemicarbazides, with 4-methyl-1-(2-(4-methyl-2-oxo-2H-chromen-7-yloxy)acetyl) thiosemicarbazide (compound C23) being the most prominent inhibitor (IC50 = 10.45 µM). The importance of thiosemicarbazide moiety as crucial structure element for strong apple PPO inhibition was confirmed by its cyclisation to thiazolidinone bearing the same substituents as corresponding thiosemicarbazide. Capture of the sulphur atom of thiosemicarbazide group within tiazolidinone ring caused significant loss of inhibitory effect against apple PPO

    Renormalizability of noncommutative SU(N) gauge theory

    Obilježja neverbalne komunikacije djece sa selektivnim mutizmom – nalikuju li onima u poremećaju iz spektra autizma?

    Selektivni mutizam (SM) rijedak je anksiozni poremećaj, obilježen odsutnošću govora u socijalnim situacijama u kojima se od osobe očekuje da govori, čak i kada ona može govoriti u drugim situacijama. Cilj ovoga rada bio je: ispitati obilježja neverbalne komunikacije djece predškolske i rane školske dobi koja imaju selektivni mutizam, utvrditi i opisati koja su obilježja zajednička djeci sa selektivnim mutizmom i onoj s poremećajem iz spektra autizma (PSA) u situaciji ispitivanja. Osim toga, cilj rada bio je: odrediti razlikovna obilježja djece sa selektivnim mutizmom i one s poremećajem iz spektra autizma u ispitnoj situaciji, radi dobivanja smjernica za lakši postupak dijagnosticiranja selektivnog mutizma. Obilježja neverbalne komunikacije ispitana su Opservacijskim protokolom za dijagnostiku autizma (ADOS-2; Lord i sur., 2012), a u istraživanju je sudjelovalo sedam djevojčica u dobi od 5 do 10 godina. Rezultati pokazuju kako je većina djece sa selektivnim mutizmom imala minimalan kontakt očima (57,1 %) te oskudne izraze lica. Djeca su upotrijebila konvencionalne, informativne i instrumentalne geste prilikom odgovora na pitanja, no opisne geste javile su se u vrlo malom broju. Nadalje, djevojčice su rijetko započinjale socijalne interakcije, davale informacije o sebi ili tražile informacije od ispitivača. Iako su obilježja komunikacije i interakcija djevojčica sa selektivnim mutizmom u ispitnoj situaciji prilično nalikovala obilježjima djece sa PSA-om, postoje ponašanja koja čine razlikovna obilježja navedena dva poremećaja. Odstupanja u neverbalnoj komunikaciji djece sa selektivnim mutizmom prisutna su samo u određenim situacijama. Isto tako, nepostojanje stereotipnih i drugih neuobičajenih ponašanja, upotreba gesta te afektivni socijalni odnosi jasno razlikuju selektivni mutizam i poremećaj iz spektra autizma

    WEATHER CONDITIONS AND THE SINO-BRONCHIAL SYNDROME IN CHILDREN IN ZAGREB

    This paper deals with the dependence of the chronic sino-bronchial syndrome and respiratory tract acute diseases in children and adults (age 0-19) living in Zagreb (a town with developed industry and heavy road traffic) on meteorological elements acting on man\u27s thermal sensation. This study is based on the bioclimatic index i/H (air enthalpy and cooling power rate) and the relevant bioclimatic classification and on those meteorological elements that are included in the bioclimatic index calculation (air temperature, relative humidity, wind speed and barometric pressure). A correlation analysis method has been applied on both daily data and 3-, 5- and 7-day moving average values. All analyses have been done separately for the cold and warm part of the year. The results for the cold and warm parts of the year differ. Chronic patients react earlier to meteorological strcss than acute ones. In the cold part of the year the warm periods are critical while in the warm part of the year the cold ones are critical. Along with the air tenrperature relative humidity is also significant. For acute patients periods with high relative humidity are particularly unfavourable, both in the cold and warm periods of the year, if they last at least three days. SO2 and smoke concentration in the studied period (1988-90) was within the allowed limits and their correlation with sino-bronchial diseases, chronic or acute, was not significant

    The internal consistency and validity of the Vaccination Attitudes Examination Scale: A replication study

    Background: Vaccinations are important preventative health behaviors. The recently developed Vaccination Attitudes Examination Scale (VAX) aims to measure the reasons behind refusal/hesitancy regarding vaccinations.  Purpose: The aim of this replication study is to conduct an independent test of the newly developed VAX scale in the U.K. We tested: (a) internal consistency (Cronbach’s alpha); (b) convergent validity by assessing its relationships with beliefs about medication, medical mistrust and perceived sensitivity to medicines; and (c) construct validity by testing how well the VAX scale discriminated between vaccinators and nonvaccinators.  Methods: A sample of 243 UK adults completed the VAX scale, the Beliefs about Medicines Questionnaire (BMQ), the Perceived Sensitivity to Medicines Scale (PSM) and the Medical Mistrust Index (MMI), in addition to demographics of age, gender, education levels and social deprivation. Participants were asked: (a) if they received an influenza vaccination in the past year; and (b) if they had a young child, had they vaccinated their young child against influenza in the past year.  Results: The VAX: (a) demonstrated high internal consistency (α=0.92); (b) was positively correlated with medical mistrust, beliefs about medicines and less strongly correlated with perceived sensitivity to medicines; and (c) successfully differentiated parental influenza vaccinators from non-vaccinators.  Conclusion: The VAX demonstrated good internal consistency, convergent and construct validity in an independent UK sample. It appears to be a useful measure to help us understand the health beliefs that promote or deter vaccination behavior

    The absence of the 4ψ\psi divergence in noncommutative chiral models

    In this paper we show that in the noncommutative chiral gauge theories the 4-fermion vertices are finite. The 4ψ4\psi-vertices appear in linear order in quantization of the θ\theta-expanded noncommutative gauge theories; in all previously considered models, based on Dirac fermions, the 4ψ4\psi-vertices were divergent and nonrenormalizable.Comment: 7 page

    The one-loop renormalization of the gauge sector in the noncommutative standard model

    In this paper we construct a version of the standard model gauge sector on noncommutative space-time which is one-loop renormalizable to first order in the expansion in the noncommutativity parameter θ\theta. The one-loop renormalizability is obtained by the Seiberg-Witten redefinition of the noncommutative gauge potential for the model containing the usual six representations of matter fields of the first generation.Comment: 16 pages, 2 figure
