    Finding the Higgs Boson through Supersymmetry

    The study of displaced vertices containing two b--jets may provide a double discovery at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC): we show how it may not only reveal evidence for supersymmetry, but also provide a way to uncover the Higgs boson necessary in the formulation of the electroweak theory in a large region of the parameter space. We quantify this explicitly using the simplest minimal supergravity model with bilinear breaking of R-parity, which accounts for the observed pattern of neutrino masses and mixings seen in neutrino oscillation experiments.Comment: 7 pages, 7 figures.     The lightest supersymmetric particle may decay with branching ratios that correlate with neutrino oscillation parameters. In this case the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC) has the potential to probe the atmospheric neutrino mixing angle with sensitivity competitive to its low-energy determination by underground experiments. Under realistic detection assumptions, we identify the necessary conditions for the experiments at CERN's LHC to probe the simplest scenario for neutrino masses induced by minimal supergravity with bilinear R parity violation.Comment: 11 pages, 6 figures.     We study the relationship of soliton solutions for electron system with those of the sigma model on the noncommutative space, working directly in the operator formalism.     Probing neutrino mass with multilepton production at the Tevatron in the simplest R-parity violation model

    We analyze the production of multileptons in the simplest supergravity model with bilinear violation of R parity at the Fermilab Tevatron. Despite the small R-parity violating couplings needed to generate the neutrino masses indicated by current atmospheric neutrino data, the lightest supersymmetric particle is unstable and can decay inside the detector. This leads to a phenomenology quite distinct from that of the R-parity conserving scenario. We quantify by how much the supersymmetric multilepton signals differ from the R-parity conserving expectations, displaying our results in the m0m1/2m_0 \otimes m_{1/2} plane. We show that the presence of bilinear R-parity violating interactions enhances the supersymmetric multilepton signals over most of the parameter space, specially at moderate and large m0m_0.Comment: 26 pages, 23 figures.     The use of essential oils to protect rice from storage fungi

    Rice (Oryza sativa) is the main food of half of the population of our planet. The growth of fungi closely associated to the eventual occurrence of mycotoxins can be responsible for serious economic losses and public health risks. Knowledge about the origin of the growth of toxigenic fungi is a prerequisite to the establishment of mycotoxin control programs. Socio-economical and environmental factors led to an extreme reduction of rice availability, while the estimated rice production losses increased in all continents what increases the importance to develop new harmless strategies for the control of fungi affecting stored rice. Natural products from plant origin were screened for the control of main pernicious fungi.In this work we have collected rice samples from different origins (national and imported) and these samples were analysed for fungal infection. Several fungi taxa were isolated: Absidia, Alternaria, Aspergillus, Bipolaris, Botrytis, Chaetomium, Curvularia, Cunninghamela, Epicoccum, Fusarium, Geotrichum, Helicoma, Nigrospora, Penicillium, Pyricularia, Rhizopus, Scytalidium, Stemphylium, Sordaria, Trichoconiella, Trichoderma, Trichothecium and Ulocladium. Some of the fungi isolated are potentially mycotoxigenic. We also studied a way to control the growth of some of these fungi using plant extracts and essential oils from Syzyginum aromaticum and Laurus nobilis.     Searching supersymmetry at the LHCb with displaced vertices

    Supersymmetric theories with bilinear R-parity violation can give rise to the observed neutrino masses and mixings. One important feature of such models is that the lightest supersymmetric particle might have a sufficiently large lifetime to give rise to detached vertices. Working in the framework of supergravity models we analyze the potential of the LHCb experiment to search for supersymmetric models exhibiting bilinear R-parity violation. We show that the LHCb experiment can probe a large fraction of the m0m1/2m_0 \otimes m_{1/2} being able to explore gluino masses up to 1.3 TeV. The LHCb discover potential for this kind of models is similar to the ATLAS and CMS ones in the low luminosity phase of operation of the LHC.Comment: 13 pages, 7 figures.     On classical q-deformations of integrable sigma-models

    JHEP is an open-access journal funded by SCOAP3 and licensed under CC BY 4.0A procedure is developed for constructing deformations of integrable σ-models which are themselves classically integrable. When applied to the principal chiral model on any compact Lie group F, one recovers the Yang-Baxter σ-model introduced a few years ago by C. Klimčík. In the case of the symmetric space σ-model on F/G we obtain a new one-parameter family of integrable σ-models. The actions of these models correspond to a deformation of the target space geometry and include a torsion term. An interesting feature of the construction is the q-deformation of the symmetry corresponding to left multiplication in the original models, which becomes replaced by a classical q-deformed Poisson-Hopf algebra. Another noteworthy aspect of the deformation in the coset σ-model case is that it interpolates between a compact and a non-compact symmetric space.     Quartic Anomalous Couplings in γγ\gamma\gamma Colliders

    We study the constraints on the vertices W+WZγW^+W^- Z\gamma, W+WγγW^+W^-\gamma\gamma, and ZZγγZZ\gamma\gamma that can be obtained from triple-gauge-boson production at the next generation of linear e+ee^+e^- colliders operating in the γγ\gamma\gamma mode. We analyze the processes γγW+WV\gamma\gamma \to W^+W^-V (V=ZV=Z, or γ\gamma) and show that these reactions increase the potential of e+ee^+e^- machines to search for anomalous four-gauge-boson interactions.Comment: 15 pages, Latex file using ReVteX, 4 uufiled figures include
